This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

You don't put it anywhere. Seriously, we're trying to get across to you that TV Tropes is not "write whatever crosses your mind about a topic". It's about tropes and their usage in media.

Very well, I won't insist on that subject any longer. It's very much apparent that I don't understand how the wikia values ideas, because I seriously can't agree that interpreting one trope as Justified rather than Played Straight is just some baseless thing that crossed my mind. I'll abstain from posting new ideas and stick to fixing erroneous posts.

But you still haven't told me how long will the suspension last. I really want to Ask The Tropers. Please tell me, please. Thank you.

A trope is not "justified" in any general sense, only with respect to specific examples. There is no need to write apologia for it; Tropes Are Tools. They don't need anyone to cheer them on.

I know you want to get back to wiki writing, but I really need to know that you understand this concept first.

I get it. I need to understand my mistake first. OK. If you have time, give me a hand here. I'm almost there.

So, I wasn't trying to Justify the whole trope, just the Star Wars storm troopers and Uruk'Hai particular applications of the trope. I placed it in the YMMV section because what I heard was not clarified by the Word of God, it was merely a theory (in regards of Star Wars), and my previous post was deleted because it was considered by the editor to be "fan wank and natter". A bit impolite from him, but very well, I took the criticism and tried to fix my mistake. The Uruk'Hai justification wasn't even YMMV, because it's a fact that you need superior numbers to take a fortified position. Military tactics 101. But I placed it there just in case someone decided it wasn't objective enough for the main page.

The The Pet Girl Of Sakurasou post was not indented to be a rant. I blame my bad writing for making it sound like one. I was simply trying to empathize how the character overacted to some things and how one of the characters that was actually not focused on had an actually worse fate then them.

So, I understand if I did not word things correctly and made it sound inappropriate but I am quite certain the ideas were founded and not simply my imagination. So, if your telling me that regardless of how they are worded, the ideas I tried to write were still inappropriate, I would like to be told exactly why, so I don't make the mistake again. I can't really quote anything because everything is lost.

The simple way out would be to abandon editing completely, but I really want to do my part for this wikia. I love TV Tropes and want to help out improve the site. So please help me out here. Thanks.

Sire, the only things that belong on YMMV articles are YMMV tropes and Audience Reactions. No matter how valid, a theory does not belong there. That is what Analysis or WMG are for.

OK. I understand. So where exactly would I put the theory that Stormtroopers were missing on purpose, for example? WMG is a bit too wild, so it doesn't fit. Analysis? Altough I'd understand why this would not appear on the Quality over Quantity pager directly as much as on the Star Wars page. Hmm... WMG might be the best choice, but it's not a great choice. Very well, I understand why my post shouldn't be on Quality over Quantity.

What about the The Pet Girl Of Sakurasou posts about characters overreacting and the most tragic character being left unexplored? That's definitely YMMV content, isn't it?

EDIT: Talking about this would be so much easier if what I posted was still available. It's a big flaw that content is lost like that. Stuff should be kept for arching purposes. IMHO.

~maxravenclaw: Yes, you can add your pet theories about works to WMG subpages; that is what they are there for, in as much as that stuff has any place on TV Tropes. The main purpose of our articles is to collect examples of tropes, not to give people a platform to write essays on whatever they feel like.

I'll release your wiki suspension. I hope this isn't a mistake. As for the deleted material, it still exists, but is accessible only to mods. Given that it was entirely inappropriate, I'm not going to go to the effort of digging it out.

~Rahkshi500: The YMMV subpage is for collecting examples of subjective tropes and audience reactions. This means that you don't get to remove examples because you don't like them or don't agree with them. You can only contest examples on the bases that they are not factually accurate to the work or that they do not use the trope correctly.

Taking it to discussion is the proper first step, not after you've argued back and forth a few times. Considering that this is the second time we've had to discuss deletions with you, I'm not feeling very generous. There had better not be a third time. Got it?

~morane: You have a major problem with Real Life examples. That's not what this wiki is about. Further, a lot of the material you added was "general" in nature, which explicitly violates How to Write an Example. We've had to launch a major cleanup effort to fix the mess you made.

@Fighteer @Septimus Heap The reason I deleted those DMOS entries was because I loved Death Battle and agreed with all of their outcomes, often making essays about why the winning characters were capable of winning, and I thought the people making the DB Wallbangers and DMOS's were biased fanboys trying to write off their statements as objective facts, and not subjective, or even biased opinions, so when I saw one DMOS that I thought was very clearly biased, one that was essentially a bunch of DBZ fan(boy)s talking smack about what I believe to be the best researched Death Battles of all time, I knew that I wouldn't take it lying down. Now, I fully understand what I did wrong, and completely apologize for it. DMO Ss are, by and large, a troper's opinion on the nadir point of a series, and can, and will, be obviously biased, subjective, or opinionated in some way. I am someone who likes objectivity in debates and arguments and so forth, so I obviously didn't understand that DMO Ss could very easily come from Vocal Minorities of any work's fandom, and often will NOT represent the thoughts or opinions on the whole group on any certain subject. A DMOS can just as easily be a glorified excuse to flame a show, or glorified feces-throwing rant, by someone who is clearly in Fan Dumb territory, as it can be a very well thought out argument, clearly detailing why a moment is one of the show's lowest points, offering constructive criticism that could help the show better itself. Again, I am very sorry that this state of affairs had to happen, I just wanted more objectivity in the Death Battle DMO Ss, especially considering that since Death Battle is a show that prides itself on non-biased research, I thought its fans would do the same, do non-biased research on who is objectively better. Sadly, many episodes' comment sections and forum discussions will have ... ahem, "debates", that disprove this almost immediately (looking at you, Goku Vs. Superman). I will stick to editing errors in English spelling and grammar, and if I ever do delete a Wallbanger, or even delete a DMOS again, I will, as a precaution, now send the offending entry to the discussion page, state clearly in the editing reason box that I did so, and point out the factual inaccuracies of the Wallbanger or DMOS in the Discussions page. Again, I am VERY sorry about this, and it will never happen again.

~ztkderp: You never replied to this post, and frankly, I'd like a little more in the way of acknowledgement from you that your personal interpretation of a character does not give you the right to impose that view on everyone else via objective tropes.

Only if it's a common re-interpretation among fans. If we let everyone spew their individual neuronal misfires into Alternative Character Interpretation it would be fifty lines long on every YMMV subpage.

(In case you're wondering, I'm a descriptivist. I prefer interpreting works at face value, at least as a starting point.)

By the way, I've sent an email asking for a review of my perma-ban; no response yet.

But I noticed something when I looked at the Troper Page of Man Called True; he claimed to be an "ally" of The Nerf Guy, and gloated that "the war is over" now that a "certain Troper" was perma-banned.

I'd really like you to look at that. I said before that he was intentionally harassing me, and now I'm sure of it.
