This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

This is not the place. Use the Help with English thread to have your writing critiqued. You do this by posting examples that you would like to add to the wiki.

Hello. It has been a while since I visited this site. I realize what was my mistake that got me suspended from editing. I was not aware of the spoiler rules and didn't realize I repeated my mistakes a couple of times. I didn't mean to make it difficult for you guys to have to repeatedly make amends. Sorry for the inconvenience. I've learned my lesson. I'd like to be able to edit the wiki again.

~The Stormer: Excellent appeal. It sounds like you get it, so I'll lift the suspension.

Yes, you have been. A statement of fact does not constitute an appeal.

You were suspended because you decided that Morven's gender was the most important part of his post in the "Male Roles and Female Roles in Fiction" thread. You were suspended because you finally slipped up and very clearly started a dust-up rather than coincidentally being in the middle of it. You were suspended because, as Fast Eddie was wont to say, "You're no fun to have around anymore." You are consistently hostile, argumentative, dismissive of any viewpoint or experience that doesn't agree with yours.

This is the third time that you've been forum-suspended for the same sort of behavior. The first two were temporary, and were lifted. This one will not be. We trust that you'll understand if we no longer want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Hello. I've received a suspension for a recent edit war on a YMMV section. It was due to how something was written or explained over a particular trope, which I found to be bias and prone to exaggerations and inaccurate claims, to where it looked like a misuse of the trope itself. I started a topic in the discussion thread to explain my case on why it was filled with naccurate claims and shouldn't be there, or at least should be changed or toned down. Instead, I received a suspension.

I would like to find a way to help form a compromise and have my suspension lifted. I'll do whatever I can to co-operate.

Sorry to post here again, but I can't figure out how to rename a work page to go with its official English name. I'd ask elsewhere if not for still being forum-banned, and there's no Administrivia page for renaming WORKS and not TROPES.

~Rahkshi500: Yes, it was the edit war on that page. Regardless of your own opinion on the entry, repeatedly deleting it is not proper conflict resolution practice.

~nomuru2d: The place to ask such a question in is Ask The Tropers, but the answer is How to Move a Page.

@ Septimus Heap: Yes, and I apologize for jumping the gun on that. It's why I wanted to start a topic in the discussion page after I realize what I was doing was not the best way of approaching it.

Hello. I just found out I have been suspended from editing. I am not sure why. I believe it has something to do with my posts on The Pet Girl of Sakurasou or Quality Over Quantity which have vanished without any trace (not even in history). I would kindly appreciate if someone explained what I did wrong so that I may correct myself. I believed that I had read enough stuff on TV Tropes to get the style. I might have been wrong.

Thank you for your patience.

EDIT: Yes, the YMMV history on those threads seems to have been reset or something. I'm not sure how or why. Is this something that happens to people who have been suspended?

~maxravenclaw: The content that you added was not appropriate for a YMMV page. That isn't a place to ramble on about anything that bugs you; entries must be examples of an actual trope and should be indented properly as well.

Similarly, you made YMMV.Quality Over Quantity with another rambling rant about a series, which violates a bunch of policies, among them that we do not have YMMV subpages for tropes, ever.

Honestly, I have no idea what you were going for here. You've been a troper for over two years.

Indeed, I have been, but I only picked up editing recently. Then I humbly apologize, it appears that my attempt to be funny failed. I must admit that the two YMMV posts were too close to rants. I had hoped that I hadn't crossed the line but apparently I did.

I tried to edit the YMMV.Quality Over Quantity to make it a bit more objective and less ranty after the first edit, but I see that it wasn't enough. I should try harder or just drop it completely. I'm not sure exactly how to formulate my ideas. I was simply trying to describe an alternative interpretation on that post. I'm not really sure how to write it better. I'll try the Ask The Tropers page, but so far I see that I can't access it.

As for the YMMV.The Pet Girl Of Sakurasou post, I'd also have to re-read it and alter it to fit regulation and make it more objective and less ranty. I really believe that the character I talked about had potential depth and was not given enough attention in the series and tryed to get some attention on the matter. Again, I need to learn how to write stuff like this. I didn't have any problems with other pages I edited, and I especially enjoy correcting erroneous facts, like the KV 2 prototype error in Tank Goodness.

So, I would kindly appreciate any help on the matter, both with being taught how to write the stuff closer to the site standards and the removal of the suspension. I'm guessing that I won't be getting any lessons here, but if I get unsuspened, I'll try the Ask The Troopers page.

EDIT: Also, might I ask why it is that I no longer see the History on those pages properly?

YMMV.Quality Over Quantity was cut and locked because it's inherently a violation of our policies. The other page was moved because the work got an English name. When a page is cut, the history is wiped.

This isn't a matter of finding a better way to word things — what you tried to add, in both cases, was fundamentally inappropriate for the wiki. YMMV pages are not a venue for you to write whatever comes to mind.

If we release your suspension, you will gain access to Ask The Tropers and can get assistance there.

So, let's pretend here I have managed to grow a large number of thumps in a mostly short amount of time in the Forums a few months ago. Almost a year ago if my sense of time is right. Would that be something that I'd be able to appeal for?

To be honest, I won't judge nor fight it if it'll be permanent removal from here. Reading is all I need after all. But I feel as though I can redeem myself here from my usual Jerkass attitude. Months without proper sleep and caffeine is hell on your judgement.

Any ways, need I post details about the reasons of my Thumps to appeal?

~Exenteration: Not really. I mean, looking at your record, it seems like a textbook case of someone coming on our site to troll, and we have zero tolerance for that kind of behavior. You might as well have been wearing a "Ban Me" sign on your face.

Also, there's this recent gem from the edit reason box on your wiki editing history: 'And I spoke to my feminist friend, she (he?) said that I should embrace homosexuality "to avoid becoming the common oppressive male pig that plagues society".' I'm surprised nobody flagged that; I've gone ahead and remedied the problem by issuing a wiki suspension as well

I'm at a loss to come up with any reason to let you edit or post, frankly.

So the content is lost forever. Unfortunate. Ah well. I'm still suspended though. Might I ask how long until I get restored so that I can visit Ask The Tropers?

And if you have a little time, please clarify one thing. If not, just ignore this part. Sorry if I seem too pushy, I just want to make sure I get everything so I avoid future mistakes. On Quality over Quantity I tried to describe why the trope could be alternatively interpreted as Justified. Was that fundamentally inappropriate? And on The Pet Girl Of Sakurasou I tried to draw attention to a character that was mostly ignored by the series despite having some depth (not sure what trope applies to that, if any) as well as the fact that some of the main characters dramatically overacted to things. That might sound as natter, but I tried (and failed) to write it as a funny analysis. Is this fundamentally inappropriate as well? I would be indebted to you if you would help me understand, please.

In any case, thank you for your patience.

It strikes me that what you want is the Analysis subpage, not the YMMV subpage.

Hmm... you have a point. I haven't read too many analysis pages so I'm not sure how the style is there. Will research. What about the Quality over Quantity tropes being Justified? Where would I put that? Although given the fact that what I wrote is lost forever, I doubt I'll rewrite it to put it anywhere. Should have backed up what I wrote to have a starting point when I rewrote it to wikia standards. The content is lost irrecoverably, right?

And once more, if I may, how long will the suspension last?
