This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

That can't be true, because I didn't know there WAS a pm system until this happened. But, I just located the "search by troper" tool, and I'm seeing a lot of edits i didn't make. I think my roommate was using my handle. So, please leave editing turned off, I'll just get a new handle (and keep him away from my computer)
If that is true, then you've admitted that your account is no longer secure and as such we'll have no choice but to lock it down completely.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I'm getting "Sorry, editing has been turned off for you." messages when I try to edit pages; but I have received no P Ms to that effect, and the way the message is worded is less then clear if this is purely a technical issue, an IP number related thing, or an actual ban.
Thanks

Suspension was issued for removing tropes from the YMMV index.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Didn't get a PM about that, nor do the pages in question mention anything about such a possibility.
If I had known it would be a problem, I would have gone through the proper channels, if there are any.
In other words: I received no warning, nor could I have known ahead of time about this policy. Further, until your post, I had no idea that I was actually in trouble for doing so.
You should definitely fix both of those problems, as they both create rather severe "fairness" and foreseeability issues.
And I'm still not clear on how long my 'suspension' is.
Thanks Luc "Poor Communication Kills" French
We've found that PMs tend to get ignored—not always, but far more likely than not—and that someone damaging the wiki continues to do so. Temporarily suspending editing gets people into this thread to talk, can't be ignored, and has the most significant benefit of preventing all the work that would have to be done cleaning up the bad edits made between when the PM was sent and it became clear that the PM was ignored. If it turns out that the bad edit was simply a mistake made out of ignorance, the policies are explained and editing privileges are restored.
Based on the page history, there's currently a crowner running (in Special Efforts) to determine the contents of that index. If you'd like to change the index contents, you should bring it up in that thread.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.Hello,
I can't post in the Content Violation thread and I was curious to why.
Dutch Lesbian31 thumps. I think the fact that you can post at all is a testament to the mod's patience. You are specifically denied access to the Contents Violations discussions due to just dumping fuel on anything that looks like it could flame up. Go ahead and push it further. Please.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyIroneye: It would be nice if that stuff was mentioned ON THE PAGE.
As far as I could tell, I was just fixing a page that was miscategorized as YMMV by the correct method.
If there had been a message on the page about adding or removing stuff, I would have followed it. But there wasn't (and isn't), so I couldn't have known that what I was doing was problematic in any way.
Let me be clear: I'm open to being reverted. I'm open to being P Med. I'm open to reading and following warnings on pages. I'm open to learning my lesson, if I can be told what I'm supposed to be learning.
But none of those options was taken in my case, so if it seems like I'm annoyed, it's because I am: from my perspective, I fell into an unmarked sinkhole — one that has continued to be left unmarked. I try to avoid trouble, but there's no way I could have seen this coming.
Could I please have my edit access back, so that I can at least fix the problem with the YMMV pages, so that they are no longer a trap for those who just edit the wiki without paying attention to the forums? (To be clear: I'm not saying the trap was set intentionally, but "trap" is the best word I can find for the situation.)
Thanks

Please see the new edit banned message: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/edit_banned.php
It should help forestall bad feelings a little better.
As for your editing privilege, Luc, it has been restored.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyMy pm system has been turned off after an argument I got into with another user over pms resulted in a suspension for us both. However, my pm ban hasn't been lifted. Can I appeal that?
One big YES!Hi.
It seems I've been edit banned. Since I enjoy TV Tropes, this is Not A Good Thing. I'd like to be restored if possible. The ban message states that I need to discuss the problem with the appropriate people. Which was difficult, since I was also forum banned (Fast Eddie was nice enough to fix that.)
I'm guessing I did something wrong in the course of trying to flag porn/hentai works/tropes for P5 moderation?
Thanks, listmaker
You spammed the thread with works that were in no way related to our content policies and seemed intent on flagging entire indexes in violation of the policy against it. The H-Game index is not an index of Porn. It's not even mostly porn. In fact, most of the games on that index don't come close to our policies.
You appeared to be violating our good faith policy on flagging.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWait, what? H-Games aren't porn? It's literally in the name! H stands for hentai; hentai is a type of porn. That seems pretty clear to me, and entirely in keeping with the materials already cut. All works flagged were in keeping with the policies and guidelines recently explained in the various forum threads.
Now, if after review, the flagged items pass muster, they can be restored, just like Fate Stay/Night was (which I skipped over, because it had already been cut, reviewed, and restored; although by the strict reading of policy it is by definition porn as an h-game).
The tropes I flagged were in exactly the same vein as the tropes cut with the removal of the Porn Tropes index - salacious titillation that detracts from TV Tropes Family Friendly policy and would cause problems should Google Ads be made aware of them.
There is a need for material to be flagged for P5 review. Having read the policies, guidelines, and examples from the forum, I thought I could help (especially since flagging suspect pages is pretty quick and simple) and I assumed other TV Tropes patrons were doing the same. Apparently, I misjudged this.
I'm not interested in arguing or trolling or any ridiculous drama. I'd just like to get un-edit banned. I'll leave content flagging for P5 to more experienced hands, and stick to reading stuff and adding examples or correcting spelling/grammar every once in a while.
Thanks,
listmaker
Nope, H games aren't porn. The H just stands for etchi. It means that they contain sex or fanservice. Most of them have one sex scene at the end of hours and hours of play if that. Quite a few of them only have underwear shots.
Most of them are Visual Novels focusing on romance and relationships but that certainly doesn't make them porn. Please do the research on media before flagging it.
You even flagged things that were barely PG-13. Jumping the gun is not appreciated. Especially when all of this was explained in the thread before and the rules EXPLICITLY said not to flag entire indexes.
Doing that just makes a mess and is not helpful in the least.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOK, H stands for 'ecchi.' That's because 'ecchi' is the phonetic pronunciation of the western letter 'H.' Why the letter 'H'? Because it's the first letter in the romanization of 'hentai.' So, H still stands for hentai. While Western audiences may distinguish ecchi as less directly sexual than hentai, this distinction doesn't really exist in Japan. Both relatively sex-light games, like Fate Stay/Night, and decidedly hardcore material (Rapelay, for instance) are categorized as H-games. So, depending on which point-of-view you take, the Japanese POV or Western POV, both our positions are technically correct (the best kind of correct!).

vs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecchi#Western_usage
But that's just me being pedantic. Other problems you raised:
> You even flagged things that were barely PG-13. Jumping the gun is not > appreciated.
As were a number of the items already cut. Following precedent shouldn't have been a problem.
> Especially when all of this was explained in the thread before and the rules EXPLICITLY said not to flag entire indexes.
Now, *that* I did miss and mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. And to be fair, yes, I was flagging items at a quick pace, so I can understand the issue of flooding the flagging system. I didn't mean to spam and I apologize for that.
Anyhow, I really am NOT eager to mess with content flagging any further - screwing up like this is not worth the time, effort, and trouble it's caused. I promise not to flag anything else - P5 issues can be left to wiser, more experienced tropers than I.

My point being - I wasn't intentionally causing a problem, I'm sorry my ignorance caused a problem, I swear I won't cause problems in the future, and please can I get unbanned?
I have no pride and can grovel. :)
I'm guessing I was suspended for Ron the Death Eater? The problem is that the Harry Potter section does the same thing as I did (generalized 'fandom does this'), and I did give a source as per the note.
So I was making Just for Fun pages for fake Kingdom Hearts games. The first one people found quite funny, the second time some people found it funny, but then the third time people said that it had gotten old, and I was edit banned.
I promise not to do it again, so do you think I might be able to have editing privileges back? Please?
"Oh great! Let's pile up all the useless cats and hope a tree falls on them!"You weren't banned for making the Just for Fun pages themselves.
You were banned for, and I quote, "Making redirects in official namespaces to Just for Fun and Contributer pages, after being told to knock it off."
"Yup. That tasted purple."
I didn't make any more after being told to knock it off. I was edit banned at the same time as I was told to knock it off.
........Someone asked a question and potholed it to something about me so I made it a redirect to my page, yes. I do admit to that.
But the closest I got to being told to knock it off before I made another was, quote "Coded 2?" unquote.
But if I was told to knock it off earlier, than I assume I was the maker of the mistake.
........If it isn't too much trouble, do you think I could have a link to the quotation?
"Oh great! Let's pile up all the useless cats and hope a tree falls on them!"ccoa
warned you and told you to knock it off. Making a bogus game in the Video Game namespace is absolutely not permitted, since it's vastly misleading. And after that, you made a new bogus page
on the film namespace, even though we told you they go under Just for Fun.
This wiki may be informal, but that doesn't mean it has to be disorganised and clattered. It's not your personal playground. What were you thinking?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer@frogout: It was actually your rude edit reason on Manly Guys Doing Manly Things and the fact that your edit history indicates you may be a sock of a banned troper.
@listmaker: You don't seem to grasp quite what we're telling you. I'm sorry, but I can't unban you if you don't get it. It's just going to cause problems again.

According to your ban notice, you replied rudely to a Natterfy PM. I really shouldn't have to tell you that being rude to someone telling you that you broke the rules isn't okay, should I?
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.
