This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Figured that was it.
I just got pretty pissy when he insulted a classic piece of literature like that. But I certainly over-reacted, and I apologise.
What more should I do?
Hey, I just looked up and saw that I was suspended.
Although, checking some of the last few pages that I edited, I think I take it that I got some reasons of what I did wrong, and I think it is in regards of my grammar and spelling (English is not my first language) even formatting (maybe there were some stuff that I was unaware to how to do so, and fell into "natter", I should pay more attention later if this happens again), as of lately, and perhaps, redacting in some pages in the The Adventures of Pete & Pete recaps page. Sorry if I did so, but I was also considering on checking them again to edit them, up until some time ago that I realized that I got suspended.
I think some of my faults lie in here. At least of what I know and what I saw from those specific pages' edits I last added. And I'm completely sorry about them.
Or, maybe, is there something else that I did that I'm unaware of, besides these recent examples?
I accept my mistakes, and the suspension really took me by surprise, even though my intention is just to help others, too. The site is fun, and I also want to keep cooperating in it. I will try and keep my eye on my past mistakes to don't make them again.

@kirara 19: Yeah, that's the gist of it.
Generally we ask that ESL Tropers head for the "Get Help With English Here"
thread. Once we're satisfied that you've improved enough we'll reinstate your editing privileges.
I will check the thread and some of my problematic edits and see what can I improve then, first.
Thanks for letting me know.

@Squig Pie: For some reason, "overreaction" on the Internet often means saying things that would get you punched in the mouth in real life. That decision and its correction were well over a year ago. That you'd feel the need to bitch about it even now is troubling to us. It means that you may be getting your information about TV Tropes from... unreliable sources.
The combination of these factors gives us little inclination to be lenient. That said, a single incident isn't usually enough to get a permanent ban. How about a week time-out?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hi, I've been edit banned. Last night I found a page that had been duplicated on the wrong namespace (ComicBooks.BBC Books Doctor Who Graphic Novels, instead of ComicBook.BBC Books Doctor Who Graphic Novels which also existed) and blanked it before cutlisting. Could that be what I did wrong?
edited 25th Jan '14 7:42:56 AM by LongLiveHumour
Hi Long Live Humour,
Yes, it was that. Trope and work pages should never be blanked; doing so is wiki vandalism. When cutlisting something, just add it to the cut list and then leave it be without blanking the page yourself.
Please reply showing us you understand and will use the cut list properly in the future.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'm not sure why I thought it was a good idea to blank the page in the first place. I was running on muscle memory at the time, but I remember thoughts along the lines of, This is a bad idea. It definitely won't happen again.
(If it ever does happen again by accident, is it okay to follow up with a redirect to the correct page?)

Sigh. I've never had my account suspended before. If I could hazard a guess, I think it's for twice removing The Sociopath entry for a minor character in My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic. I felt the character more closely resembled an Enfant Terrible which features many shared traits but also has some notable distinctions. Clearly I was in the wrong. But if I can just go back to being able to edit the other TV Tropes pages, I won't even touch the Character page for fear of starting another Edit War.

Long Live Humour: Thanks. Yes, adding a redirect is okay. Suspension lifted; happy troping.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. So what do I do now? I don't want to cause trouble. I don't even know for sure why I was banned. I just want to apologize and do a better job at editing in the future. How long does a ban like this typically last?
edited 25th Jan '14 8:35:14 AM by SaveFearow
Apparently I've been edit-banned. I think this might be due to a misuse of bullet points, which having read the Example Indentation page, I think I may have done. For that I would like to apologise and I will avoid doing that in the future. If there is anything else I have done wrong please let me know.
Well, it has been a pretty long while since I have been on here.
And I know what was the cause for my being banned: the edit wars regarding Arisawa Tatsuki. I apologize for that.

"On the Second Day, The Beast Awakens, With its single fang, It swallows the falling star"Save Fearow: You were suspended for edit warring on Characters.Friendship Is Magic-Jerks And Bullies
Firebird Maximus: Yeah, problems with Example Indentation and Natter.
saiyan5ninetail: You've got a history of edit warring and one prior suspension for it. I hope you have a very good reason why we should give you a third chance.

"Yup. That tasted purple."Thanks for explaining that. I wasn't sure if I had gone too far by removing The Sociopath entry, but I was blocked before I could reset it and formally apologize. I'm sorry it happened and I will refrain from Edit War in the future. (I'll just stick to correcting minor spelling errors when I see them.) How long does the ban stay in effect? Is there anything I can do to make amends in the meantime?
edited 25th Jan '14 12:56:04 PM by SaveFearow
SaveFearow, we want to know that the incident won't repeat. You need to acknowledge other users' arguments, not just keep inserting your point of view repeatedly. The Sociopath is a characterization trope, not a medical diagnosis.
I'll lift the suspension.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"My Final Edit and I got into a brief two-person Edit War (page in question: A Sinister Clue). After the third back-and-forth, we were able to settle the matter in Private Messages... but by then it was too late and the mods locked us :/
So, yeah, sorry about that. I've explicitly apologized to the guy, and I'm done with A Sinister Clue
Ah okay so it's the Natter as well. Sorry, I didn't realise it was such a big deal was at the time. I'll cut down on it in the future.
I'd like to be able to write and comment on reviews again. (for some reason I can still edit articles, not sure if that's supposed to happen)
I inadvertedly posted a comment that could be misconstrued as offensive, and I apologise. It's no excuse, but I wasn't thinking very straight at the time. It wasn't supposed to be offensive or insulting feminism.
I haven't had any other violations before this one, but I promise that if I get my privileges back I will be more careful with what I post so that it does not happen again.

@TARINunit9: Glad you were able to work it out. Suspension lifted.
@FirebirdMaximus: I'll lift the suspension given that it's a first offense, but you have been here a while and should have encountered those policies before. You might want to review How To Write An Example to make sure you aren't making any other mistakes that'll land you here again.
@ElectricNova: The problem with jokes in an online format is that it's impossible to tell if it's a joke. In response to recent events, we've been forced to adopt a zero-tolerance policy to the appearance of sexism- and feminism-related squabbling. Please use caution in the future. Suspension removed.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I am not sure as to why i was put on a ban, hope this can get cleared up
You decided to Edit War over an eye-bleeding Wall of Text on Major Crimes and got pissy when asked to cut it out.
