This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyCan someone please help me out here; I don't know what I did to get suspended.
@45xxx: Wiping the description section of In Medias Res.

"Yup. That tasted purple."He didn't wipe it. He moved the description to the bottom of the page, under the examples to make it a self-demonstrating article. That's not quite as bad, but it still was a major change to the page with no discussion, and to no benefit to the page. Wiki Main namespace articles need to remain clear and useful; a self-demonstrating article that is not clear and useful can be put it in the Self-Demonstrating Namespace for fun.
Do you see why we thought it was vandalism, and responded as though it were, 45xxx?

Eeup. You know, I had an inkling that I'd get in trouble for that... just not suspension. Oops.
Like it says on suspension page, we just do this to stop folks and get them understand that we're serious about certain things. Your suspension is lifted.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyYup. But the suspension was to get you to come in here so we could figure out what you were thinking. Lifted.
Discuss big changes to pages, and leave edit reasons.
When I got the report that the intro section was gone, I looked at the page, and then at the edit history and thought, "Ayup, it's gone." I didn't scroll down past all the examples to see if it had been moved. Even just leaving an edit reason, like "Moved to the bottom to make this self-demonstrating" would have been an improvement. I still would have reverted it, but I would probably have sent you a PM rather than suspending your editing.
And I get ninj'd by The Fast One himself.

Long time no see! It's been exactly one month since my suspension, and even though my chances of getting lifted are next to nothing, I'm still gonna ask anyway. May I please be lifted? I've taken time to myself to make sure to NEVER allow any mistakes that I made happen again.
Hey, I've been away from editing for a year. I was suspended after lashing out at an annoying fanfic pimper and did things I now regret. Can I have this suspension lifted now?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great@TalonsofIceandFire: What I see here is that you added type labels to Analysis.Anti Hero despite the posted instructions not to do that. Defying commented warnings is an automatic suspension. Type labels are poor style; we're trying to remove them.
@Bubblesishot46853: I think we've made ourselves amply clear here.
@maxwellelvis: I suppose we can take a chance and let you back. I don't see any recent signs of trouble. Just make sure to avoid taking out your personal feelings on the wiki.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Apologies for whatever I did, but do not know *what* I did to get suspended.
@hullflyer: The suspension was for uncommenting Zero Context Examples on Cringe Comedy. Looking at your edit history, I see that you also have a bit of a Natter problem.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sorry, I didn't actually mean to do that - I was attempting to remove a blank line from the page to clean it up, and didn't realize what the "%" markings were doing.
When a %% symbol appears in the page source, that designates a comment. You should not remove them unless you fix whatever issue the comment is there for. In the case of a Zero Context Example, that means filling out the context so that it becomes a valid example.
I'll lift your suspension as you say it was a mistake, but please pay closer attention to our editing policies in the future. And watch the natter.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hello.
Last month a receive an edit ban for fuming and lashing out in my edit reasons and overreacting to natter. I was offered a month away from editing in order to settle down.
In that month, I've matured and cleared my head.
If I can please edit again, I promise to behave better from now on, and to be more polite when explaining my edits.
Thank you.
I just looked your case up, Truro, and you have indeed waited a month. Let's hope the warning about rudeness takes this time. Suspension lifted.
@bubbles: This post
was your answer. You've been bugging us about it ever since, and the answer has not changed. Don't make us bounce you.
@Fighteer: Okay then, I see what you are talking about. I'm still a little disappointed that type had to be remove, but that's fine.
@Talons: See Type Labels Are Not Examples. The reason we've banned them is because they add no useful context. It's a shorthand for editors that means nothing to anyone who doesn't read through a whole bunch of arbitrary classifications. It's yet another way to avoid getting to the point, which is explaining how the character is an example of the trope.
I'll lift your suspension now that we've reached this understanding.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

Seems like you have trouble not making things personal in the Economics thread. 8 Thumps for that reason. You are not learning. It is a pain to be around.
