This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Fair enough. I'll release the suspension.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Umm...any kind of answer regarding my situation would be appreciated...
Well, you never really addressed the problem that got you banned, even when the other Mods in the thread told you about it. Instead, you kept talking about what the other party in that situation did. So we don't even know if you know what got you banned.
Go back a couple of pages and read what the Mods were telling you, then reply to that - and remember, we want to hear your thoughts on what you did, not on what someone else did.

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. We have sandboxes for tests. Making your first YKTTW a bunch of gibberish is a very not-smart move.

I'm not really sure what more you'd want me to say.
I already admitted what I said was "rude" and it was against the rules, obviously the PM function shouldn't be used for that sort of thing.
There's also the question of Natter. You should understand that if you have an edit that needs more work you should talk about it in the Fora or the page's Discussion page, rather than talk it through in the page itself (thus adding Natter.)
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Oh, the Natter thing? At that time I was just throwing in both perspectives as part of that main entry as a work-in-progress. I actually didn't realise that was a violation of the rules.
Just to be clear: every page is by necessity a work-in-progress. Part of that work is to improve and maintain the quality of each page. Things like Natter detract from the page's quality. Planning and experimenting with edits can be done in the Sandbox, the Discussion page for the page you want to edit, or the Fora. If you're still not sure about what Natter is, please read our page on it: Natter.
The purpose of a suspension is two-fold; one, to prevent the problem from growing; and two, to bring the problematic Troper here for a discussion. Since we've hopefully had a proper talk now I trust that the problem won't persist. I'm lifting your suspension.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Hello I would like to appeal my suspension, I know i've been guilty of natter in the past so I resolve to try and not do that anymore.
@darkrage6: You've been deleting entries from YMMV articles without explanation. That's a violation of our etiquette rules. What's going on?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sorry about that, I honestly did not know that it was a violation of the etiquette rules. I didn't think it was necessary to post explanations for edits, and i've admittedly sometimes gone overboard on editing YMMV entries. But in the future I resolve to tone down editing on YMMV pages and give explanations if I do edit them.
Alright, just to be clear: you should always give edit reasons for any deletion or any substantial modification on a wiki article.
Further, YMMV examples are intended to be about opinions. Removing them because you don't agree with the opinion that is being expressed is absolutely wrong. You may contest the facts, not the opinion.
I will remove your suspension once I'm certain that you understand and agree with these rules.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I agree and I understand that I should not edit YMMV pages merely because I disagree. I resolve not to remove any more entries on YMMV pages that I personally disagree with, and I resolve to give reason for my edits in the future.
I would like to get unbanned from the forums... one thump and apparently all I ever make are complaint threads.
I've seen people post way worse and get thumped way more often, but they still get to post to their merry heart's content.
@esteban009: We're not sure that you appreciate what our forums are about. We like to maintain a friendly atmosphere where it's possible for people to converse without getting into fights. To that end, we have some rules, like not making personal attacks. We also have a rule about not creating threads whose primary purpose is to complain about something.
This isn't the first time you've made a complaint thread, either. Digging through your posting history, I found this
as well as this
. I'm not sure why that first one wasn't locked (although I have just now fixed that); probably nobody hollered it.
The point is that you've got a chip on your shoulder about misandry, and as mods we've decided that anyone who decides to play what we call the Oppression Olympics — that is, dismissing someone's claim to be aggrieved on the basis that other people suffer too — is simply going to get banned. We won't put up with it.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The oppression olympics get played all the time in various threads, singling me out is just plain weird. I'd expect a lot more people getting banned for playing that game.
Two whole threads... one thread posted two years ago and faded into obscurity that even I forgot I made it all those many moons ago. You could have just closed it and given me a reminder through private message.
Also two threads started with a considerable amount of time inbetween does not indicate a pattern. Also, weigh the "negative threads" against other topics started, just for the sake of being fair about it.
Also the last thread had an ad hominem that wasn't thumped... namely one person with what seems like a bone to pick, drudging up the two-year-old topic instead of actually talking about the topic or reporting it in silence. Bringing it up served no purpose to the thread, the topic, other than link me to it.
and since I can't editmy earlier post...
Having a chip on your shoulder about misandry is equal to having a chip on your shoulder about misogyny... or rape, or violence in children's shows. Everybody should have it, since it's a topic that is sort of negative and damaging.
1) We work on the basis of what people report to us. Sometimes we go back a ways to look for mutual misconduct, but that doesn't mean we regularly review the entire contents of those mega threads.
2) That someone else was misbehaving is not an excuse for your own misbehavior.
3) While Eddie may have issued the suspension on the basis of the complaint thread, our concern is your attitude regarding "mistreatment" of men. If we have to ban every single person who uses that as an excuse to dismiss the legitimate concerns of other groups, we will. You've been a wonk about this topic in several threads, and we're sick of it. And yes, we will ban other people who do it too.
We can lift your suspension, but you need to lose the attitude.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That was not an ad hominem. It pointed out you had raised the issue before, not attacking you.

Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty

I think you may be approaching YMMV with a bit of a misunderstanding (one shared by a lot of people, mind you). It's not to convince others of your point of view, it's to document opposing points of view. If you find yourself disagreeing with something, don't argue with it. Phrases to watch out for include "actually", "what really happened was", "justified by", and so forth.
There are usually ways to have an entry in YMMV document opposing points of view without seeming to agree with either of them. The point is that we work together, not against each other.
I don't mind you editing the article as long as you keep this in mind. If you see other tropers violating these guidelines, help us by reporting the problem. Don't escalate it.
