This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

I guess I have been suspended. I got thumped and I don't know why. The message just said that I was thumped and didn't give a reason. I was as on topic as everyone else.

~Greasy Chicken: Following up on your appeal, "I promise to follow the rules," is not really great considering how much of a mess you've made during your brief time here. Let's get a little more detailed.

  • You changed images without following Image Pickin' guidelines. This includes ignoring the comments on existing images. There's no way you didn't see those, considering that you deleted them.
  • You created multiple stub articles without following our guidelines for what constitutes sufficient content.
  • You don't seem to understand how to use the preview function to correct mistakes without having to serially tweak your edits.
  • For some reason, you thought the Nightmare Fuel cleanup thread was a place to dump images.
  • You spammed Edit Banned and tried to PM moderators about your suspension, despite the pinned instructions saying not to do those things.

These facts paint a picture of someone who not only doesn't understand rules, but can't be bothered to look for them in the first place. So perhaps you could try a little harder with your next post. We'd like to see at least a couple of grammatically correct sentences explaining this "understanding" that you have developed, rather than meaningless promises.

I don't see how my subjective, non-fringe viewpoint on a politically contentious subject can be grounds for a ban, especially considering I was civil in my discourse. Even if it were, I don't understand why it wasn't limited to the forum, but also extends to the main wiki itself.

The correct procedure of launching a new TLP to the wiki properly requires a few requirements which are that The Draft Must be Three Days Old, The Draft Must Have A Clear, Complete Description, The Draft Must Have Five More Hats Than Bombs, The Draft Must Have Ten Examples, The Draft Must Have Twelve Wicks, Discussion on the Draft Must be Complete, You Must Indicate Intent to Launch At Least 24 Hours Before Launching, and You Haven't Made Major Changes Within 24 Hours Of Launch

Hello, I noticed that I was suspended from editing on the site some minutes ago, after I edited an example earlier today in an attempt to make it more specific.

May I know the exact reason for the suspension, so as to make sure it doesn't happen again?

Assuming that it wasn't due to the edit I made, my first guess would be regards to replacing images. I received a PM for it the first time due to doing so on a character page, and would receive more afterwards for doing so in the past.

If that is indeed the case, I've realized that I need to go to the Image Picking forums first and I believe that I have not tried to replace any since receiving the first PM.

Regardless, I apologize for the inconvenience, and if given the chance to edit on the site once more, I promise to be more careful.

This depends.

In my time on this site, I have been sent a grand total of three notifiers:

The first was from a user telling me they were removing an edit I made due to the wording it used. Not because the edit didn't belong on the page or wasn't a worthy contribution, but simply because they personally didn't like how I had worded it. They didn't change it around to make it fit the 'style' better, they just outright deleted it because they disapproved of how I had written it, whether it was a worthy contribution or not. I went back and checked the page just now, my edit is still completely gone, no attempt was ever made by said user to include it again in a style they felt was more 'fitting'. My edit was simply gone forever because one user didn't like the way it was worded, and so deleted it, to which the only possible option was an edit war to put it back in (which I obviously did not do).

The second was from another user telling me I had committed the crime of 'poor grammar'... because I had linked to a Youtube playlist instead of the sole track URL for an Awesome Music edit (which still linked to the correct track in question). Okay, a mistake I'll concede was my fault, but I don't think it's fair to directly criticise someone's LANGUAGE SKILLS over an 'incorrect' (more just 'sub-par') URL being provided. Their next point was that I was also guilty of Word Cruft... for entries that did nothing different from what every other entry on that page already did. I would've happily just posted the links with their titles alone, except I apparently needed to add some description too, so did so just as everyone else did. But when they do it, it's fine, when I do it, it's Word Cruft. I also didn't appreciate then being sent more notifications about the same issue to beat me over the head with the message, because apparently the user didn't just doubt my ability to communicate in my own native language (again, purely due to using the wrong URL for a link), they also doubted my intelligence as a human being.

The third and final was regarding an edit on a Heartwarming page, where my edit was removed for being a meta example... despite it still pertaining to content from within the media itself, as a message being given directly to the audience, provided by the writers and actors. Furthermore there were also mentions of indentation issues, which were left for me to fix as a 'prove to me you know how this works' test, which just felt like a trick since I had apparently already shown I had no idea what I was doing with indentation, as practically nobody else on this site does considering the amount of times I've seen people in this thread having to beg forgiveness over it. Not only that but when I expressed my unhappiness about this manipulative 'bound to fail' scenario I was being put in, the response given included a direct threat. I was stuck in a 'damned if you do / damned if you don't' situation, and I decided I was done wasting my time with it, because whether I made the edit or not, I was going to end up getting in trouble for it all over again.

To summarise: the only times my edits have required notifiers to be sent are when the users in question felt it worth their time to insult, belittle and bully me over the errors that they perceived I had made (such as the first user deleting an edit I made entirely rather than simply rewording it). I was NOT sent notifiers to help guide me into making my edits better, I was sent notifiers by users who wanted to insult me over mistakes that they alone perceived I had made... all of whom have apparently went completely unpunished, as their work has remained while mine has not. Look, I get that this place has rules, it'd be insane to think that it doesn't, but believe it or not, I've done my best to abide by them. I've only ever written edits in the style that I've seen other people write in (like I said, my entries for Awesome Music were written specifically in the style of every other entry I saw), I've only ever copied the formatting that I've seen on other related pages, I never engage in edit warring to put back in the things I wrote that were removed, specifically because I don't want to step on anyone's toes. If my edit is deleted, I'll argue it but I won't force it back in. Hell, I never even go on the forums, not even ONCE, because I don't want to risk breaking rules and upsetting people with my ignorance. For all I know, I DID make mistakes in some of my edits, or maybe even ALL of my edits. But what I DON'T know is why, whenever I need to receive a notifier about any such mistakes, it's used as an opportunity by the sender to bully and abuse with some perceived sense of superiority, taking it upon themselves to delete my edits and insult me to my face while setting me up for ANOTHER mistake they can insult me over. I repeat: I have been sent a total of three specific notifiers, the first to tell me my edit was completely deleted due to being 'written wrongly', another to tell me I couldn't communicate properly, and another setting me up to fail. If what I said was considered 'extremely rude' then I want to know what all of THAT is classed as.

So my question, before anything else is, was all of this treatment considered fair and acceptable by the moderation team? The blatant insults towards a person's communication abilities, the 'deleted because I don't like it' behaviour, the 'show me you understand even though you clearly don't' trick question and the threat that followed it? Because if it is, whichever users are granted the right to send these messages to people need to seriously work on their 'bedside manner' before doing so again. And I know what the response will be: that whatever the case, it's no justification for rudeness, and I agree. I'm not TRYING to justify anything I said. All I want to do first is clear the air on the matter. Is what was said and done to me by other users considered acceptable by this site's rules?

Hi, not requesting anything but I just wanted to check again that in one of my previous questions here that we talked about after I fulfill the forum activities it will be checked in April if I can edit again. Can you guys remind me which date in April just to be sure because I forgot? (And also I wanted to check can I still create a Pantheon page despite the edit status)

I believe that I have been suspended from editing due to failing to index Shōgun (2024)

I think this is the first time that I have been suspended for anything after several years on this site, and I believe that this is my wake up call to do better. I apologize.

I would like to appeal my suspension and I seek to do better and to properly index and edit the next time I do such a thing.

Thank you.

I believe I was suspended from PM and Notifiers since last year. While I never received an official notice on this, I believe this has to do with a rather large number of notifiers sent to Clancy Gardener regarding certainly disputes on the LightNovel/ namespace migration.note  I believe the dispute has been resolved on his side's favor, and my view seems to be mistaking a comment on that thread as authoritative (which causes me to consider Clancy Gardener to be inappropriately doing migrations on many pages at that time). I don't know if it's appropriate to release me, at least for PM purposes?

In response to what Bisected 8 told me, I feel like in hindsight it was a mistake to post images for a movie that only recently came out since it would be considered a spoiler. I should've either waited longer or at least consulted a mod and get permission to make sure that it was okay to post an image. From now on, I will try to ask mods for permission to upload a photo in case they don't have another one in mind to post.

Hello. I was banned from editing (because I had problems with English and some of my examples had no context) since last year, but I have made progress on Get Help With English and explained one of my Zero Context Examples on that forum thread, so I want to know if you can allow me to edit again, please.

~SamCurt — The sending of a large amount of notifiers in a short amount of time was indeed the issue (and this wasn't without notice since it was brought up in the relevant Ask the Tropers query, though the fact that it's been over a year since then means it's understandable if you forgot), and since you understand what the problem was and this was a first offense, your suspension is released.

We'll get to everyone else soon.

Hi guys, I would like to make another request to be unsuspended from editing. Since my last request I've had another successful six weeks of being a positive contributor to Image Pickin, and my Trope Repair Shop threads are slowly but surely approaching in the TRS Queue. Particularly for the Overshadowed By Controversy one, I would like to rewrite that entire OP to make my point clearer (because right now that OP is kind of a mess), and I would like to help with wick cleaning projects again, since that helps the TRS Queue move faster. I have learned my lesson about messing with Real Life sections and I hope my behaviors in the past six weeks have proven that I am willing to be a team player and a helpful presence in the community.

I am sorry I did bad grammar about a year ago. I have been mostly not posting on this website but I did a few posts in Get Help With English Here and love to get my suspension removed. I spent a half hour searching and I cannot find my original punishment. (though I do remember I was labeled bean180 instead of 780) I remember that a lot of people were getting in trouble for secret wars (so it would have been around the one that TV series came out) that is the only clue I have on the date. thank you for reading my response and I hope you have a nice day.

Shinn Bidan here again. I decided to make another post, as I wasn't sure that editing my previous post would be appropriate in this particular instance.

I want to acknowledge a blunder I might've made in my previous post. I said that I hadn't replaced images since I received my first notification about it, but while that might be true for the character pages for Falcom games, I just remembered today that I replaced character images for Princess Connect! Re:Dive, which could render my previous post inaccurate.

I apologize for this oversight, and assuming that image replacing was what got me suspended and not something else, I'll try to be more cautious if given the chance to edit again.

I would like to appeal for the removal of the ban on my editing privileges.

When I had the time to continue assisting in the Trope Launch Pad, I worked on properly maintaining a more professional stance while explaining why I believe certain tropes/edits need to be added. I have also taken steps to keep a more neutral standpoint and remove my more personal feelings on the matter when it comes to editing.

This goes for my methods of properly sourcing my edits without copying it directly as well.
