This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Looking at timestamps for your two thumped posts (here
and here
):
- Your second post was about 20 hours after the first.
- The first post was thumped about 4 hours after you posted it (i.e. about 16 hours before the second post was made).
The second post was thumped almost immediately, so the gap between thumps is also about 16 hours.
Hey, I tried to create a page for the BET+ show Average Joe, and received a notice that I was suspended. I checked my messages and there was nothing there either. I do know sometimes I word things weirdly, but I've been trying to work on it and if I went against any rule or site standard, I apologize. Help me understand where I made an error and I will try my best not to repeat it.
Michael 20Hello, I would like to request an appeal to have my suspension removed and to edit again. What do I have to do?
Rank Scales with Asskicking: The higher a Soul Reaper's rank is, the stronger they're likely to be. Those around the level of a Captain are required to maintain control over their spiritual pressure lest they end up flattening anyone nearby.
Shinigami: They guide and send the deceased to the next world.
Space Police: They are the supernatural fantasy equivalent in regards to defending the balance of the world.
Patrick Schroeder@Tabs, how, I cannot make a post without references, all the settings of the character have been decided, then what can I do in the improve English website, just like before, change or add something that match the character design? I do not think I need to watch a whole tv show and add all the settings from the characters.

~Tropers/Stratis appeal
Correct. Remember to check the page history as well, and it never hurts to check up on once-common pages like Your Cheating Heart every once in a while to make sure nothing major has changed. Your suspension is lifted.
~Tropers/omegasaint appeal
Is there any reason "read Edit War and tell us the venues on this wiki where you can discuss contested edits" is proving so difficult? The answer has nothing to do with Heavenly Delusion, and it is not at all "I will just avoid these pages". We want to know you understand how to resolve conflicts, not just on those pages. But if you're unwilling to actually put in the legwork, then there's no point in continuing this appeal.
~Grand Cheese appeal
You were told
to post your revisions here, i.e. in this thread. You don't need editing back for that.
~Tropers/its_stephprime appeal
You've received multiple notifiers about Example Indentation policy this year, but it still seems to be plaguing your edits. That means you were called here for a chat. You also have some problems with Word Cruft, but that's fairly secondary.
Can you read the Example Indentation page carefully and tell us the errors you made with this edit
?
~Tropers/isbillyhere appeal
PM'ing is indeed one way to resolve an Edit War but it doesn't always work (e.g. you are ignored or unable to resolve it between the two of you). That page lists other venues on this website that can be used to discuss contested edits that also involve other tropers. What are they? (Answer independently, I just did not feel like typing out the same answer twice in a row.)
~Tropers/Thundermoth appeal
All correct. It's good practice to check the page's editing history, as it seems like it would have resolved several of your concerns. Your suspension is lifted.
~Tropers/michaelmason appeal
We need to discuss Edit War and Zero-Context Example with you. Before we proceed, though, are you also the "Michael Mixer Mason" described on this page?
~LL 797979 appeal
You have been making negatively-charged edits about a character from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Editors have to be neutral and factual in general, especially on non-YMMV pages, but that the bulk of your thus-far short editing history has been about bashing about this character, even after other tropers have tried to step in, makes this especially suspect. Do you have any other intentions with your account besides that?
~Eag3r-Mc B3av3r appeal
Improvements with the Rank Scales with Asskicking and Shinigami examples. The Space Police issue, however, doesn't describe how they behave like a fantastical law enforcement force specifically; "defending the balance" sounds like a pretty common hero duty. (I also don't think Space Police is flexible enough to count Urban Fantasy shinigami, but that's not the issue at hand).
Do you see the difference in description between that and your first attempt
, and a better sense for what constitutes "context"?
~Tropers/55975964 appeal
What does any of that have to do with the request of "write examples with good spelling and grammar in that thread" exactly? They don't have to be about a specific topic. You can post any prospective addition, whether it's a character you think could be an example of The Hero or something to add to the page of the last movie you watched or whatever.

I saw I was suspended from doing edits, and I understand the reasons behind it. I'm genuinely sorry about the mistakes I had made before, especially about my rash behaviour from earlier this month. And before you ask, yes, I was the HighSpeedTroper account.
Back then, I hadn't paid attention to the Auto-Erotic Troping rules before a friend had me look through them. I understand that I should've acted responsibly before instead of quitting out, though I was under a lot of pressure from what happened.
To that, I apologise for the rules I broke in doing that. I'm not excusing what I did at all, and I understand if my account's closed because of this. I just knew that it was best for me to own up to what I did, since I can't really undo it anymore.
Even if the suspension's lifted, I won't be creating any more articles on this wiki again. I genuinely don't want to make the mistake I did in the past. I'll only be doing more careful edits on a small few pre-existing pages or simply browsing from here on out, but other than that, I'll let other tropers take care of things along other lines.
I'm sorry if this came out wrong. I'm not exactly the best when it comes to stuff like this.
Yeah, the forums, discussion page and ask the tropers exist, I just don't use those often enough but I suppose bigger(?) disputes would be better for those.
i can use the articles discussion page
ask the editor to come to ask the tropers with me
use the forums
or i can report the page if there’s an ongoing war
I made an indent on the "follow-up" paragraph through the utilization of the * mark three times, when I should have put it into one combined paragraph within the ** indent — especially since it is regarding the same subject. I acknowledge my error and I will not do it again.
Saigon by Heritage 🇻🇳 Seattle by Citizenship 🇺🇸Then where are the guidelines of that website, I do not have a clue, you guys said I need to improve my English and all I know is no grammar spelling wrong. Synchronicity said I can post any prospective addition, whether it's a character I think could be an example of The Hero, I cannot do it, he was tricking me, which is called fabricate. He also said add something to the page of the last movie you watched, I have forgotten.

You don't have to avoid troping as much as possible, only avoid troping works you had a hand in creating in ways that would be biased. If you want to make a page about a novel you just read (and you aren't the author/editor/beta reader), then go right ahead.
Also, remember that when people send notifiers to you or otherwise say you're doing something wrong, they're not mad at you, or trying to be mean to you. So heed notifiers, but don't take them personally.
You're released. Keep the above in mind, and happy troping.
~Baritone Clef appeal
That's good. Yes, Ask The Tropers is a good general area for getting feedback from other tropers. You're released.
~isbillyhere appeal
Yep, all good. You're released.
~Tropers/its_stephprime appeal
Correct. Those bits foreshadow the same event, so it makes sense to keep that in one bullet.
The entry
you got a word cruft notifier for also includes
Along with avoiding words that pad out an entry, you want to avoid referencing other entries (the previous bullet point mentioned a Disappointing Last Level, so this one is continuing off it). Entries can get moved, rewritten, or deleted, so they should be readable as standalone examples. Does that make sense?
~Tropers/55975964 appeal
Let's go through this again. You post your proposed entry on Get Help with English
. You are doing this currently.
You were asked to make several posts in a row where the thread helper tells you that there are no grammar mistakes in your post. You're not there yet.
Yes, I am aware of the Word Cruft now, and will also not do it again. Thank you.
Saigon by Heritage 🇻🇳 Seattle by Citizenship 🇺🇸How much post without corrections then I will free to go then. I cannot make sure every post no need corrections. Okay I use this website then https://www.grammarcheck.net/editor/
, or you guys will be very fussy though I have tried harder, really (beep) annoying.

That's exactly why I wanted to talk with other people before editing according to the guidelines. I also mentioned Wikipedia because for some reason, the guideline also has a link to Wikipedia's instructions about how to avoid edit wars.
I seem to have been banned from the forums for calling out pedophilia.
I'm here, I guess. The examples I was supposed to fix:
Child Soldier:
Prior to joining Music/Gorillaz, Noodle was part of a Japanese government project which aimed to create 23 kid Super soldiers, Noodle's specialty being music - thus why she is very talented in playing numerous musical instruments. She was the only one of those children to survive, while the remaining 22 were killed when the project was abandoned. She was rescued thanks to her creator, Mr. Kyuzo, who erased her memory - leaving a trigger Phase, "ocean bacon" - and escorted her to safety after reading the ad for a guitarist Murdoc placed online.
And I can’t think of any reasons for Sohone being a Large Ham.
kijetesantakulu tonsi li lanpan ala lanpan e soko? | ☿ they/them/theirsI was going to post this tomorrow but decided to do it now since we finally reached the end of September which was the term that was agreed.
I promise that I calmed down and that I learned my lesson. And I know if this happens again I am out, no ifs or buts about it. I apologize to the mods and the userbase. I love you guys and you were right I was awful.

You are acting like you're entitled to edit our wiki. This is a privilege that is granted as long as you follow our rules. Using grammatical English is one of those rules and is not negotiable. You may use a grammar checking app or website to help you, but it doesn't change that you have not yet demonstrated proficiency to our satisfaction. Until then, we cannot remove your suspension.
~omegasaint appeal
So, where on TV Tropes can you talk with other people before editing? Where specifically? Now we know you've read Edit War. <— On this page, there are bullet points saying where you can discuss. You need to tell us what the page tells you. This is not a trick question.
~Hawkatana appeal
Upon reviewing the conversation in question, nobody on the mod team was able to see the alleged pedophilia apologia. You are suspended because you appear to be deliberately making hyperbolic claims against other users in order to provoke fights and/or get them in trouble for disagreeing with your views. That's not acceptable.
~Yinyang 107 appeal
We're glad that you want to remain part of the community, and we note your statement that you intend to follow the rules. But in the same post you immediately threw passive-aggressive insults at the site's owners. That makes it much harder to take that statement seriously.
We've thumped your previous post. Do you want to repost it without the insults, so that we can proceed with your case?
~Grand Cheese appeal
That's good. If you're unsure if a trope fits, it's better not to add it, or at least post in Is this an example?

Okay then. Please be careful. You're released.

Patrick SchroederI object to my post being framed as "insults". There were no insults, only statements on my feelings regarding the admins' recent actions.
The claims weren't "hyperbolic", nor was I "provoking" anything. One of the users in the forum for Yandere Simulator was calling anyone who dared take issue with a teacher-student romance "far-left". How else am I supposed to take that?
Besides, I wasn't the only person in the thread who raised those concerns, so clearly it's not just me.
I'm here, I guess.Hi, I seem to have been suspended, so I was directed to post here. may I ask what I posted or edited that maybe went too far & caused the suspension? I suspect I sometimes get over-enthusiastic in some edits and maybe that's stepped on some toes, but as of current I'm not sure what exactly those were. Thanks for any help on this.
I want to go to there.

In regards to the Edit War policy thing, I initially forgot to read that part of the rules, which I should have done on day 1. I also see that messaging the person who's correcting the edit is the way to go here, but the only reason I didn't do either of these is that I didn't know someone else was editing it back at the time because I wasn't 100% familiar with how seeing other page editors works on this site.
I swear, each time this happened I honest to god thought my edit hadn't been saved and was actually going to highlight to a mod what I thought was an issue with my own editing until I got a direct message from the corrector. I wasn't being malicious, just an idiot who had no idea how to look for a 'wiki has been edited' indicator.
I now understand that you're supposed to ignore articles, which I hadn't seen before since I figured I knew how to alphabetize things already, which I now know I REALLY don't. This is a problem I've had my whole life, thinking articles affect where you place something in alphabetical order, and I'm so happy to finally have a definitive answer to this issue.
Going forward, I'll just scour the entire page if my work on it gets changed before anything else and if I can't find any way of seeing who's editing it and why, or agree with them on how to reinstate the edit, I'll just leave it alone.
