This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Okay, 𝕋𝕒𝕓𝕤. I know that TV Tropes has other areas that aren't wiki editing, but if maybe in four years, the same time you mentioned, I adhere by the rules, is there a small chance of me ever recovering the wiki editing rights? People change over time and I would really hate myself if I get banned from editing for good.
Mysterious Mo Fo
Hi, my editing privieges have been revoked and I don't know why. I would like to have a clarification as to why, what would be the steps to make up for whatever it is I did and have my privileges reinstated. Thank you.
Hello, I seem to have been suspended for attempting to be kind about a character's gender choices. I apologize if I came off as impolite, but I wanted to point out that users who wouldn't respect that character responded to me in a passive-aggressive manner, so I do find it odd I get suspended while their passive-aggressiveness goes unchecked. In the event I return to TV Tropes, could they be given some sort of warning as well? I feel it's most questionable since I was treated with passive-aggressive responses for the longest time and attempted to ignore them, until now.
A few weeks ago, I received a suspension for vandalizing a Street Fighter character page ( Switched a character's image and replaced their name with something else). It was done as a joke, but I understand that such behavior is not tolerable, as there are people who want to read and learn about this character. The post has been fixed by someone else, and I received a message concerning the situation. Is it possible to receive editing privileges once more?
No, and I think I already understand what the next one is all about: You put down something that has zero proof whatsoever and it isn't taken seriously as a result.

Good. Please be careful in your troping. You are released.

It's good that you want to avoid an Edit War. According to that page, what can you do if another user has undone your edit and you want to change it back?
And since we're addressing indentation as well, can you adjust this Axes at School entry so it's correctly indented:
- In Armed Girl's Machiavellism the Private Aiichi Symbiosis Academy allows its female students to carry blunt weapons (most have folding sticks, but the assistants to the Five Supreme Swords are more varied), and the Five Supreme Swords carry actual swords. This is the result of the school being originally reserved for girls, and when it became co-ed the female students were so scared of what they expected the boys to do them they demanded, and obtained, to carry weapons for defense and the student council turning into a vigilante group for the more extreme cases, and by the time of the series there's exactly one girl, Kirukiru Amou, who doesn't carry a weapon... Because her hands are more than enough
- At Hokkai, Aiichi's twin school, everyone carries weapons. It doesn't do them any good when Amou is transferred there while the Six King Swords are away.
~Rm74 appeal
It is indefinite, not forever. As previously stated, we want to see good wiki behavior from you. Not having the time
is no excuse here. Since you mentioned college and a job, let's put it this way: you can't argue to the administrators that you don't have time to do your homework or attend any classes and still expect them to confer a degree; you can't argue to your employer that you don't have time to work and expect to get the job. You haven't earned it. Similarly, if you don't do anything to show us you can be a productive contributor to the wiki, you haven't earned your wiki privileges back. Unlike school, however, there is no timer here. If you need time to do what you're asked here, take your time.
~omegasaint appeal
If you edit a page, someone undoes it, and you want to put your edit back in, what are some ways to avoid an Edit War?
~Tropers/shawn_allen appeal
Yes, that's correct. If you are ever unsure or believe something might be wrong with an entry you want to add, please feel ask beforehand rather than commit to that. Do you have any other questions about indentation before we move on to other issues? This is not the first time you were suspended in that area, so do ask.
~Murphdog 405 appeal
Close. You should state what happens in your entries. You want to avoid "does this" or "this way".
- Defeat Equals Explosion: Fang Lion Monster after being defeated by Battle Fever's Pentaforce goes down
this wayvia explosion in the aftermath.
Your second entry describes Fang Lion Monster as the antagonist but not how he's the Monster of the Week: a villain in one episode that is defeated at the end of the episode and not dealt with again after.

What does Edit War say you should do to avoid an edit war?
~El Juaco appeal
After a long, long time, if you find other things to do on the wiki, maybe. Not really inclined to now, less so if you keep asking. We're willing to accept people change over time.
Thank you! Hey, wait a sec... I still can't fix the page!

Don't worry, 𝕋𝕒𝕓𝕤. That's all I wanted to know. Trust me, I'm gonna look for other things to do here. For example, I sometimes provide assistance in the Complete Monster thread, in some posts.
Edited by ElJuaco on Sep 17th 2023 at 6:12:22 AM
I'm sorry for repeating myself, but I had no idea of the edit war. Was there a template in that page? I promise not to edit there but I would like to see warnings there or something like that to avoid repeating this mistake
By the way, this might be offtopic but how do I use my avatar? I uploaded the image can't use it. Is it because of the ban?

You've committed an Edit War (please read that page) by redoing
an edit without agreement from other users. On this website, we don't allow tropers to keep putting their preferred edit back, even if they're saying so in the edit reasons. You need to discuss it with other tropers before you redo it. Where does the Edit War page say you can have these convos?
~Soaring Starman appeal
You know that the issue with Yamato has been discussed at length
and has historically attracted suspicious posting by people who refuse to abide by this consensus. The suspension is to see if you intend to continue being one of them, especially because your most recently thumped post reads like you're now trying to claim other not-quite-interpretable-as-trans characters as trans (even bringing this into other users' inboxes unprovoked) even as you don't use the agreed-upon pronouns
. Given that this has been a recurring issue on your previous account, the overall picture we're seeing is not "being kind". So are you finally going to stop being stubborn about One Piece character pronouns or not?
~Tropers/Kirbyenjoyer appeal
With the caveat that if you are caught knowingly messing up a page again, that's grounds for a permanent suspension if not a bounce. This site depends on its users editing in good faith. is that clear?

Can you rewrite these Zero-Context Examples you added or uncommented
to Characters.Bleach Soul Society Dwellers to have proper context then? Post your revised examples in a new reply in this thread.
- Rank Scales with Asskicking: See first listed trope for details.
- Shinigami: Essentially what they are.
- Space Police: Or at least the supernatural fantasy equivalent.
~Tropers/omegasaint appeal
Did you carefully read this response to you
? It already linked which edits of yours comprised the Edit War (did you read that page as well?). It has everything to do with repeating an edit without consensus and nothing to do with Awesome Music or templates, so your appeals make us think you are not bothering to internalize what we are telling you.
Edited by Synchronicity on Sep 18th 2023 at 2:02:43 PM
I see. I'm only familiar with Wikipedia's edit war rules so I'm confused here. The edits were brief expansions if I recall. My mindset back then was "Oh I forgot about this part. Maybe I should expand this part" So I should check the discussion section right before editing these sections to see if people are edit warring? I promise not to mess up again.
Edited by omegasaint on Sep 18th 2023 at 8:12:54 AM
~Tropers/omega_saint
We are not Wikipedia and our rules are different from theirs so I suggest you stop referring to them in this appeal.
You didn't expand anything in your Edit War, so again, did you carefully read the linked response? Follow this post carefully because this is the last time we will spell it out. You added
these Zero-Context Examples. Another troper commented them out, per policy. You put one of them back
without agreement. That is edit warring. The question now being posed to you is
:
The answers are quite clearly spelled out on Edit War, so repeated replies of "I don't know what you mean" just make you sound like you are not properly reading the page like we ask.

Hello. I would like to know why I was suspended. Could you please let me know? Thank you.
For the Edit War, I should discuss the edit either in the Discussion page or privately with the other editor via MP, use the Ask The Tropers page, or the Forums. And if I notice multiple vandalizing or an Edit War already happening I should simply use the Report Page button.
For the indentation issue, I believe this should be a correctly indented (and more concise) entry:
- Armed Girl's Machiavellism examples:
- Private Aiichi Symbiosis Academy allows its female students to carry blunt weapons (most have folding sticks, but the assistants to the Five Supreme Swords are more varied), and the Five Supreme Swords carry actual (blunted) swords. This is the result of the school being originally reserved for girls, and when it became co-ed the female students were so scared of what they expected the boys to do them they demanded, and obtained, to carry weapons for defense, with the student council turning into the Five Supreme Swords to deal with the more extreme cases.
- Hokkai, Aiichi's twin school and former all-boy school, has a similar rule... In that everyone carries weapons.
To avoid an Edit War, you can use the article's Discussion page, send a private message to the troper, Ask The Troopers, use the forums such as Trope Talk, or use the Report Page button if someone is repeatedly vandalizing a article.
So I made stubs, keysmashes, bizarre dialogue and moments pages, is that right? Anyways I'm sorry for doing that, I'll try doing stuff more professionally now
You were suspended for Edit Warring an entry
on 13 Reasons Why: Students. We don't want users redoing edits without prior discussion. In addition, the entry is for a non-trope (Your Cheating Heart is now a redirect to an index).
~EDP appeal
That is good. And yes, using the Preview button is good practice before submitting edits.
Let's clarify something about your rewritten entry — entries should be self contained, without referring to other entries. A viewer should be able to read either example bullet point alone and it will make sense. Something like this:
- Armed Girl's Machiavellism examples:
- Private Aiichi Symbiosis Academy allows its female students to carry blunt weapons (most have folding sticks, but the assistants to the Five Supreme Swords are more varied), and the Five Supreme Swords carry actual (blunted) swords. This is the result of the school being originally reserved for girls, and when it became co-ed the female students were so scared of what they expected the boys to do them they demanded, and obtained, to carry weapons for defense, with the student council turning into the Five Supreme Swords to deal with the more extreme cases.
- Hokkai, Aiichi's twin school and former all-boy school, has a similar rule about allowing weaponry in school... In that everyone carries weapons, not just the students. [perhaps another sentence would be ideal]
Does that make sense?
~Blue Cat 138 appeal
Correct. This exercise took you four or five attempts more than necessary, so I would like to emphasize that you have to follow those rules. Is that clear?
~Cat Playz And Things
Yes, all of those. Please do not do those. This is a wiki that people read, not a personal notepad. The only page of yours that remains standing, Shape Buddies, has needed a lot of fixing up
by other users. If you have any questions about those edits specifically and editing practices in general, now's the time to ask them.
Edited by Tabs on Sep 18th 2023 at 11:59:44 AM
I read the guidelines. I see that I gotta discuss more often rather than make more edit. If I make it, I wanna discuss the comparison of the endings of Heavenly Delusion as the anime version gave it an optimistic feeling despite the really dark events
I understand now why I've been suspended. I should have realized this before. I am wondering if I could be allowed to edit again, if I stay away from editing pages pertaining to this particular show?
Sorry about changing the photos without permission. From now on I’ll try to read the rules.
kijetesantakulu tonsi li lanpan ala lanpan e soko? | ☿ they/them/theirsI wasn't talking about Yamato though. I was referring to Kuina, who desired to be a boy, so how could it be not kind to respect Kuina's desire there?
If others don't interpret things in such a way that they don't want to be respectful to the character, then if anything, that prob says quite a bit as to how respectful they're being.
I'm trying to be as mindful in not being stubborn as I can, but others constantly try having a problem with me as if they have something against me.
I'll keep trying not be being stubborn, but please, could you also please tell other users not to that things so personally by assuming things that aren't true?
I've been treated rudely and with passive-aggressiveness, even in private, to the extent it makes myself uncomfortable. So how could one reasonably expect me to be on my most professional behavior if other users continually keep getting away with being rude to me?
I tried ignoring this for the longest time, but it seems now it's appropriate that I bring it up.
Because if you're going to address others being uncomfortable in not wanting to respect a manga character's desires like that, then what can be said about others constantly being passive-aggressive to me, even in private?
I want to not cause trouble, but in my heart, I feel this can only really work if others are less quick to take things personally and talk to me in a respectable, friendly manner that I get can in sync with.
For example, if you look more closely at the context of what I was trying to say, I was using "they" to refer to two characters, not a a description of one person's gender.
I address it here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=ka1p4935g3od982kf54ktkwk&page=4124#comment-103079
but it seems to have been gotten ignored, and people would rather immediately assume I was trying to misgender someone even though I clearly wasn't trying to.
The accusation I was "misgendering" someone comes from, as seen in the thread, Diana 1969, who is the aforementioned person being rude to me, assuming things that aren't true and using that false assumption against me, saying rather antagonistic things like:
In sum: It's not that I don't want to abide by the consensus, but more so people such as Diana being rude to me in such a way that they make the situation look worse than it actually is. I've posted in many other threads, talking about many different things, and have never encountered this issue, but One Piece is the only thread that this has happened in.
So please, in the event I come back, could you please tell users such as Diana to not jump to conclusions and not post false assumptions against me?
If you’re really certain to bring up the past with Yamato, then I’m sure I’m doing the right thing in providing you the full context of how users such as Diana have behaved towards me, since it’s not fair I get suspended while they’re free to be passive-aggressive towards others and make them uncomfortable for no good reason, like what they did to me regarding a manga I really like.
I can’t be in good spirits on TV Tropes if people such as that continue to be like that towards me, so if we both want what’s best for all, and desire for me to have my best attitude possible, then it’s reasonable for me to bring this up, no? If someone is pushing you, then it’s natural one will do something about it after awhile after all.
I don't want to be an enemy, I want to be a friend, with the hope that others will take the time to listen what I have to say instead of quickly assuming the worst about me, and actually community with me instead of assuming I'm trying to be a stubborn troublemaker constantly taken out of context. If you're truly one who will listen, then I'm sure you'll make the right decision. :)
Edited by SoaringStarman on Sep 19th 2023 at 4:07:44 AM
Now I understand, thanks. I'll try again with a better entry.
- Armed Girl's Machiavellism has two examples in the twin schools of Private Aiichi Symbiosis Academy and Hokkai:
- Private Aiichi Symbiosis Academy allows its female students to carry blunt weapons (most have folding sticks, but the assistants to the Five Supreme Swords are more varied), and the Five Supreme Swords carry actual (blunted) swords. This is the result of the school being originally reserved for girls, and when it became co-ed the female students were so scared of what they expected the boys to do them they demanded, and obtained, to carry weapons for defense, with the student council turning into the Five Supreme Swords to deal with the more extreme cases.
- Hokkai, a former all-boy school, allows all students to carry all kind of blunted weapons, including swords, polearms, and even practice rifles with bayonets. The Six King Swords (their student council) are the school's strongest fighters, and it's possible to obtain membership by defeating a current member.

I hadn't noticed the edit war, I apologize for not listening, and I'll try using the preview button in the future, and in general, TV tropes is a great site.
