This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Why exactly was I suspended? I have had some editing mishaps in the past, but I generally try to stay sane with what I write.
"I definitely know what science is."This isn't Jeopardy!, ~M3S, you don't have to answer in the form of a question. In fact, we'd rather you didn't. You clearly ignored the initial messages about Sinkholes, and don't appear to understand why a chained sinkhole is a problem. I'll provide a sentence and ask of thee, questions three:
- How many links does it look like there are in my sentence?
- What articles did I link?
- Why are sentences like this one bad?
~Sana Naryon — You have almost ten thousand edits. The idea that you only go back to fix ZCE when another editor points out the problem is very concerning from our perspective. You should already have the experience to identify ZCE on your own and therefore not add them in the first place. Typically we give editing "tests" based on the user's own edits, but we agreed that the lesson might be easier to learn this time by giving you someone else's edits to analyze. So I went hunting for work articles from Pages Needing Example Context and found Neon Genesis Madoka Magica. Please find three examples from the article with full context and explain why they have complete context.
Welcome to the Edit Bans and Suspensions thread, ~Tux1! The problem is "the past" is less than a year ago, which makes it seem to the moderation as if you didn't learn anything and other editors just didn't message you about the mess you left behind. Your most recent edit was to YMMV.The Sponge Bob Square Pants Movie, "** I FUCKING LOVE WAR", indented under Memetic Mutation. Which violates an impressive number of policies. Let's start this discussion off by having you identify three of the rules that you broke with that edit alone. If you need help, go down the list in Administrivia.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.hello why am I suspended all i posted that ego can be logical and super ego are more about morals than logic itself? id is the Ax crazy is and the instinctual one.
Why am I suspended? As far as I can tell it’s because I split the Green Arrow page into subsections. I didn’t think that it was a big enough deal that I needed to bring it up anywhere because a lot of other Superhero characters pages are also split. I was also working on cleaning up the Preacher (2016) character page and I had brought up the issue in the character page cleanup thread.
I have had previous issues in the past with making unilateral moves but you can see from my posts in forums that I have been communicating with people about what I am doing more. I have been one of the only people still working on the Comic Book Namespace cleanup so I usually do a bunch of large edits but I am always checking the forums for any differing opinions.
What I don’t like is being accused of ignoring everyone. Ask The Tropers doesn’t give notifications so I do t know when someone else brings up an issue unless they go to the forum which whoever has complained about me clearly hasn’t.
If someone wanted to ask me about my moves they could have brought it up in the forum or messaged me directly. I try to always be open to feedback and I try to fix my mistakes based on what people think. I think my suspension should be unturned. I can’t even respond to the Ask The Tropers section calling me out. Although to be fair it could easily turn into a flame war.
Please unspend me.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!I believe that I was suspended/edit-banned for my activity on the Trope Launch Pad. I created a trope there - "Defeating the Cheating Opponent" - and was told in a PM that I violated the code of conduct. I believe it was because I launched the trope without adding all of the examples which were posted by other tropers, and without adding "Trope will be launched on this date" to the trope's title before launching it.
From the TLP Crash Rescue thread: "While vague launch notices might be passable, I don't think drafts without a notice at all are, even if the trope is launchable. Launching a draft after it's been dormant for a few days doesn't give anyone the chance to discuss your draft." Therefore, I broke the rules. And, as stated in the suspension page, the fact that I didn't know the rules is no excuse for me breaking them.
Do I have this correct? If I do, then I hope to have my editing privileges reinstated sometime within the next few weeks. However, I fully admit that I've never been edit-banned before, so I don't know the code of conduct here, either. I'll accept a ban for as long as necessary.
I try to be an active participant on the site and keep to within the rules, but I fully admit that I got it wrong on the TLP. I apologize. Please let me know what I can do from here to regain confidence in my ability to be a force for good on the wiki.

The fantasy RPG videos that play in my head are amazing.~Tetrahedron X 790 — Welcome to the Edit Bans and Other Suspensions thread! As your post here shows, you are doing a terrible job with English grammar (by which we also mean spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc). You also engaged in an Edit War, which is an automatic suspension itself. Can you use proper English spelling and grammar?
~Gate Star X — You have been doing great work with the comic book projects, but that "I don't know when someone else brings up an issue" goes two ways. Such reports occur because they aren't aware of you bringing up the issue that you're fixing on the forums, making the changes appear unilateral. The overall complaint is that you aren't sharing the reason why you are making such large-scale changes to the wiki. You're upset because they aren't going to the forums, but you aren't telling them where on the forums to go.
What it seems from our perspective is that you've never read Edit Reasons and Why You Should Use Them.
Despite
requests
. Maybe you didn't because they forgot to link the policy when asking you to do that. Because this was a recurring issue with your activity, it was deemed necessary for the instruction to come from the moderation team this time, rather than risk you ignoring another editor's request to use edit reasons.
It's a case of the same small problem happening frequently, so it finally got to the point where we felt the need to step in and remind you of the policy, in the hope that you simply weren't aware of it and are ready to correct yourself in future edits.
~King Lyger — Welcome to the Edit Bans and Other Suspensions thread! The policy mentioned to you is TLP Guidelines, and you correctly read the thread to identify two issues. However, there are several other issues that also came to our attention. For now, can you summarize the rules for launching and post-launching?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. The rules for launching a trope from TLP are as follows: a troper must indicate that a trope is going to be launched in the title or description of the TLP post, which must indicate that a launch will occur no earlier than 24 hours after the announcement was added. In addition, the launching trope must not have had any meaningful changes in the last 24 hours before it's launched, and the draft must be complete. A complete draft is one that is at least three days old, has a clear description, has at least five hats AND has at least five more hats than it has bombs. The launching trope must have at least ten examples with twelve crosswicks in order to be launched as well.
After a trope is launched successfully, the launching troper must customize the title of the new trope if necessary. Once that's done, they need to put the new trope on the appropriate index/es, go to the work pages of all the examples which have already been added in TLP, and add the example entry to those pages. Also, a Laconic page for the new trope is a good idea to give people who didn't view the trope in TLP a good idea of what the new trope is all about.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.1) Putting the new trope on the appropriate index/es after a trope has been launched is How Indexing Works. If a troper needs help with it or doesn't know which index fits the trope, they can look up Needs an Index for help. In addition, the new trope has to be added in alphabetical order, as listed under the guidelines of How to Alphabetize Things.
2) Going to the work pages of all the examples which have already been added in TLP, and adding the example entry to those pages is called Cross Wicking. This is how the Wiki Magic grows.

The fantasy RPG videos that play in my head are amazing.Ok I’ll try to add edit reasons in the future, even if it’s just “Character page cleanup”.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!~King Lyger — Good job. For the next part, we'd like you to review Example Indentation in Trope Lists. Out of the 28(!) notifiers you've received, 14(!) were for indentation alone. Do you have any questions about the indentation policy?
~Gate Star X — ehhh... :Z For most purposes, just a summary of what an editor is doing ("correcting typos", "adding examples", "crosswicking", etc) is fine. But because you specifically are highly involved in large-scale changes to the wiki, we need a little more. "Character page cleanup" doesn't tell me if consensus was reached in this thread
, this thread
, this thread
, or some offshoot of this thread
, all of which might be summarized by the same "Character page cleanup".
Indentation is a notable flaw of mine, this is true. It's more a matter of trope->sub-trope that I seem to have an issue with. Such as using Five-Man Band and hen adding the "band members" as subtropes being against the rules.
I'll review the policy now. Let me know what you would like me to do as confirmation.
The fantasy RPG videos that play in my head are amazing.Ok then I guess I’ll try and go a little more in depth with my reasoning. I’ll also direct to the proper thread.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!~Tropers/tetrahedronX790 — You cannot keep using the holler function to get your wonks about tropes through. You can discuss your suspension here and attempt to earn freedom, or you can remain suspended. But if you ignore your suspension again and flag/holler a page you want to talk about you will be bounced.
~King Lyger — Great. Let's take a look at two of these edits to hololive - Mori Calliope Ch.. Your addition was in bold.
- In 2022 on April Fools' Day, she released an EP called "My Mixtape" under the alias of "Calvin Morrison" aka "YUNG SH1N1GAM1 B01" aka "C-Man". The whole mixtape was Calli with her voice pitched lower to sound masculine as an Affectionate Parody of Boastful Rap, with lyrics akin to low-effort gangsta rap. One of the songs relies heavily on the fact that "C-Man" sounds like "semen" for Cringe Comedy, and also sees Calvin pee in the studio, then run out of rhymes and resort to desperately asking when the hook starts. In "Street FITE", Calvin manages to get in a fight with fellow Spear Counterpart "Hayko" mid-song, though admitting that it's an idol channel and they can't get Calli in trouble. The third track, "My Reality", is Calvin complaining about the service at a local fast food joint (implied to be a KFP restaurant of the sort that Kiara runs).
- During Calvin's "debut" stream, he didn't have a model; he just had a series of still images that he dragged all around the screen to make it look like he was moving. Calvin was clearly insecure despite his "tough guy" act, and was nowhere near ready to stream. When Calli broke free and tried to give him advice about rapping, Calvin ended up Comically Missing the Point and creating an intentionally bad rap song because he thought it meant that his lyrics didn't matter.

You did not add this one, but it's got an indentation error as well, so may as well use it:
- Badass Teacher/Cool Teacher:
- She went into more detail on her day job after having a rough day, which caused her to act extremely goofy on stream to blow off stress. According to her, she teaches very young reapers how to swing their scythes (theorized by many to stand for for giving English language classes in Japan). This is best seen during her English teaching streams, where she shows herself to be very effective at teaching, her calm and patient mannerisms making it very clear that she has ample experience. Even outside of said streams, she is able to brilliantly interact with talents who speak English poorly, as shown, for example, in her Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes stream with Korone, in which she manages to piece together the dog girl's mangled attempts at English. For the Badass part, she is also a hardcore rapping Grim Reaper, for the Cool part... how many people will dedicate a stream to teaching someone swears
?
- After her chat had spammed an emote to her ire, Calli removed the emote. Her fanbase had to write a thirty-page essay, all in Times New Roman 12-point font, single-spaced, on why they deserved to have the emote back.

As well as another one you recently modified, but did not add outright, from Wrestling.Stone Cold Steve Austin:
- Bittersweet Ending: Austin's final match as a full-time wrestler for WWE was at WrestleMania XIX against The Rock. Austin lost the match, and was sent into retirement shortly thereafter.
- Downer Ending: Barely averted; Austin was rushed to the hospital the night before WrestleMania with an irregular heartbeat that almost killed him. According to some reports, doctors advised him not to do the match at all, but feeling he owed it to the fans, and to The Rock. So Austin performed anyway.
What are the indentation errors in each edit? (Bonus: Can you name another non-indentation policy the Downer Ending example violates?)
Also, I don't know if you are aware, but the 'role-dependent' format
for Five-Man Band is being deprecated, so there really is no reason to keep doing that.
~Gate Star X — That is good to hear. Can you come up with good edit reasons for:
I put ax-crazy as Id ,morality chain as Super ego, and the Spock as ego, then it got removed for no reason why? And also got suspended due to my poor English writing skills?
Edited by tetrahedronX790 on Apr 6th 2022 at 6:21:20 AM
Well with Characters.Green Arrow the page had a large amount of character folders and I thought it would be easier to navigate with the supporting characters and rogues gallery split off. Plus it synergizes with the other comics characters page.
ComicBook.Jean Grey was mainly character tropes and per the Comic Book Character Namespace thread needed to be moved to a character page.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!- For the "Stylistic Suck" entry for hololive - Mori Calliope Ch.: My error was that my edit was indented with three bullet points. It should have been either indented with two bullet points (so it matched the entry above it), or added to the above entry so that it was all one entry instead of split into two. As it says on the page for Example Indentation in Trope Lists: "Bullet points are for examples, not comments about examples."
- Badass Teacher, same page: One line was indented with one bullet point, and another was indented with a second bullet point. Either both should have been indented with two bullet points, or they should have been combined so that it was a single entry with only one bullet point. Plus, there were multiple tropes added on the same line, which is not allowed. Again, from Example Indentation in Trope Lists: "All tropes in a list should be at the same level of indentation, and in alphabetical order."
- For the entry on "Stone Cold" Steve Austin: Bittersweet Ending and Downer Ending should have been added on their own lines, each indented with a single bullet point. As it is, Downer Ending was made into a subtrope of Bittersweet Ending, which was an incorrect indentation.
- Another non-indentation policy that my Downer Ending example violates is that it says that the trope was "barely averted". This is explained on rule number eight of the Tips Worksheet: "A trope can't be 'partially subverted' any more than someone can be 'partially pregnant'."
- I was not aware that the 'role-dependent' format for Five-Man Band is being deprecated, but I will keep it in mind for the future.

The fantasy RPG videos that play in my head are amazing.![]()
OK, that's enough of that.
~tetrahedronX790 — crazysamaritan has explained the reasons for your suspension here
. Let's take this one thing at a time:
- The English grammar you have displayed so far is subpar. We want all editors to write in English well. You seem to have found
Get Help With English on your own, but that isn't the place to talk about your suspension. It is intended to be a place where you can post potential edits, and someone will correct them for you. If you have a few posts that don't require correction, then we'll assume your command of English is good enough to let you edit freely.
- The other reason you were suspended is for your Edit War. You changed stuff on Freudian Trio, someone removed your edit, then you put your edit back. That's not how we do things. Please read Edit War and tell us what you could have done instead.
~Gate Star X: We know that. Let me rephrase the request: Please come up with a good "edit reason" that a casual editor unfamiliar with the discussions about character pages and comic books will understand. Write it as if you are going back in time and putting it in the edit reason box at the times you made those edits.
~King Lyger: Good job. You caught the word cruft, too — in fact, the Downer Ending example could be removed entirely, since we don't trope Averted Trope except in specific situations.
We've addressed both reasons that led to your suspension — taking care of freshly-launched tropes and indentation. Can we count on you to index and crosswick drafts you launch as well as to follow indentation procedures in the future?
I will be sure follow the guidelines for both TLP and indentation of tropes more carefully in the future. If I'm allowed to edit the wiki and TLP pages again, I'll be sure to correct both of those issues. I also complied a short list of pages that I need to go back and fix for indentation.
I'll be going over my edits in the near-future with a fine-tooth comb, for certain.
The fantasy RPG videos that play in my head are amazing.ComicBook.Jean Grey: Moved to Characters.Marvel Comics Jean Grey per ComicBook Namespace issue thread
.
Characters.Green Arrow: Hard split for easier navigation per Character page cleanup thread
.
Great! Thank you, ~King Lyger and ~Gate Star X for participating here. You're both released!
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. How exactly do I prove that I've changed? My words are not enough. I could provide context and further information, but ultimately, there's no good way to make sure that said information isn't a nonsensical claim from a namespace whose existence is disputed. This being my first suspension helps, but the information I've already given makes me look like an even bigger idiot.
Again, this is not an appeal. That comes next month.
Troper Wall, sandbox, and I'm trying to kill typos.

I know I have received quite a few messages, and I work to learn from any failure I make. I never write a ZCE on purpose (as in I never write a [trope]: [no context]), but when I get a message about ZC Es I go back and rewrite it to have more context.
As for the indentation issues, that's mostly just habit, but I know what I do wrong and I strive to don't do again.
