This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

CDRW: As you've demonstrated good behaviour, I will lift a number of your restrictions. You can now post reviews, liveblogs and send PMs. I will also lift the 10-minute limit. You will still be unable to edit the wiki or post in problem areas.
Angel Halo: Here's the thing: at some point, you created a page called River City Gamers, long since cut. This page only contained a URL, which is viewed as spam. Even if that's not what you intended, we want to make sure you understand that you mustn't make stub articles with merely a URL. "If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer
@AviatorFan: I'm sure you weren't being deliberately disruptive, and I wanted to make sure we reached an understanding. Please do take the time to learn what tropes belong where, and use the Discussion pages, PM's, and/or Ask The Tropers to raise any concerns before they become edit wars. Suspension lifted.
@Overkiller: You made an edit to The Apartheid Era that caused us some concern. Whether you meant to or not, you directly compared Israelis to Nazis with the parenthetical "and also possibly because they recognised like minds". The Internet has all kinds of folks with all kinds of racist, nationalist, and ideological agendas, and I'd very much like to know that you aren't one of them.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well, no, I did not mean to. I merely wished to point out how both states were - and in Israel's case still is - apartheid regimes and had a surprising level of support for each other.
If you're suggesting I might be one of those antisemitic individuals who hide it behind antizionism - and meanwhile make the antizionist's cause harder due to association - I can assure you I'm not and I'm sorry for coming off that way.
If there's one rule that we ruthlessly observe here at TV Tropes, other than "don't be a dick" and Please No Natter, it's the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement. It means that, regardless of the validity of our opinions, we try not to insert them into articles in ways that are likely to cause hurt feelings or start arguments.
Be especially wary when you insert statements that look like you're interpreting for the audience. Just state the facts and let people draw their own conclusions.
Got it?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Just pointing out that wasn't an opinion. An opinion would have been if I said "Israel is a bad country". It's conjecture because I drew on the information at hand and provided a theory as to the reason behind it.
- ahem*
But yes, I get the gist of what you mean.
Please don't play hair-splitting arguments. I know you get the gist of what I'm talking about, so I'll drop the suspension. I just don't want to have to have this conversation again with you.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Perhaps it's been overlooked since it's on the previous page, but can I get a response to post 2519?

I rarely visit the forums to avoid the cynicism ooze.I didn't understand the rules of YKTTW. Now I understand its rules. I would like my ban repeeled, please.
@Westrim: I'm willing to release your YKTTW suspension as long as you cut out the practices that got you suspended in the first place. We need tropes to come out of YKTTW and thrive, not go straight to TRS or the cutlist. That's a waste of everyone's time.
@TropesofTV: Your single sentence responses and odd grammar/spelling mistakes don't inspire confidence. I don't think that we want you in YKTTW. I'll consider releasing the wiki suspension, as the problem you caused there came out of YKTTW, but I don't think you have what it takes to create tropes responsibly.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"lu 127: Ah! Right. Didn't think it'd be viewed as such. Sorry for that. Now that I know, may I edit again, please? :)
Dragonmaw, I've lifted your suspension. Please keep the points I mentioned in mind in the future, and happy troping.
Lifted Angel Halo's suspension.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI've been told I was edit warring, and looking back, that's exactly what I did. I am very sorry for this and would like to be able to edit again. I will, if told that an edit is not valid refrain from re-adding the deleted edit.
Specifically, pitac, you were informed that we had a forum thread to discuss examples of Creator's Pet yet continued to argue for your interpretation of it. That's not acceptable behavior on a collaborative wiki. Like many other tropes that have to do with audience likes or dislikes, we cannot allow it to be a free-for-all or it loses all meaning.
Will you promise to discuss contested examples in the future instead of edit war over them — especially subjective ones?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hello, I was recently banned from editing. I think I might know what I was banned for but I would like for you to tell me exactly what I was banned for so that I can give a proper explanation. Sorry I didn't respond sooner about this, I've been having Internet connection problems lately and only recently got it sorted out.
@chopshop: I made some notes when I suspended you, so let me go over them briefly.
Mainly it's about putting stuff in the wrong place. I discovered a number of your edits added items flagged as YMMV and Trivia to main articles. Please see What Goes Where On The Wiki to understand why we segregate this material.
I also saw some unusual additions that don't really go anywhere, like Irony used to comment on Orson Welles' weight. Besides tacky, that's a personal observation that has little to do with the trope, the work, or indeed much of anything.
I think you've just gotten the wrong impression of what the wiki is for. We want examples of tropes, not meta-commentary about whatever tangential information crosses your mind. There are places for that sort of thing, just not the primary articles.
Please do take a look at What Goes Where On The Wiki and let me know when you have grasped what it says.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@Fighteer: Thank you for explaining this to me. On the subject of the Irony thing, I was trying to make a humorous comment (a really stupid one now that I think about it) and honestly, I should have known better than to make a joke like that. On the subject of putting stuff in the wrong place, I am still a fairly new troper and I didn't think a view on What Goes Where On The Wiki was really needed. I think this experience was a helpful reminder to me about how seriously stuff like this is taken on the wiki. I promise to be more mindful and make sure that I place a YMMV or Trivia in the correct places from now on. I would like my editing priviliges back but the choice is yours and
Sorry about the way my last post ended, I was trying to hit a key and I hit the enter key by accident which sent it. I was trying to say that the choice about whether I got my priviliges back was yours and not mine and I would honor your choice.
I don't recall adding anything after being told to go to the discussion page, and by the time I went to the discussion page they had already issued my suspension.
However, I do promise to take all disputes to the discussion page rather than having it out on the actual wiki.
@chopshop: 1) You can edit your posts to correct them. 2) It's clear that you're willing to take the time to learn the rules, so I'll release the suspension.
@pitac89: You added Gwen Cooper back to the article at least four times after she was removed. That's not accidental. The note to see the discussion page was added back in September, so you cannot claim not to have had time to respond. I'm concerned any time I see a troper who appears to be deliberately ignoring consensus. Please acknowledge this.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I have no recollection of September, it was several months ago and other things have been happening, if I was cautioned at that time I don't remember it. The first referral to the discussion board that I recall seeing was posted a few days ago.
I acknowledged that the way I acted in the last month was wrong. And I apologize.
It was in the edit history. Look, I'll release the suspension but let's not have a repeat of this, okay?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

I understand, and apologize for not informing someone earlier.
