I've never heard of Despicable Me but I've know of Mega Mind for a while. Both look pretty good but Despicable Me looks a tad better.
My Phineas and Ferb LiveblogDespicable Me looks interesting what with dueling villains, but those idiotic yellow things are a severe turn-off.
Cmon, they're like Tatchikomas!
'''YOU SEE THIS DOG I'M PETTING? THAT WAS COURAGE WOLF.Cute, isn't he?Before How To Train Your Dragon I would've said that Mega Mind has the liability of being made by Dreamworks, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of a doubt in light of Dragons.
Despicable Me is news to me. I had heard of Mega Mind before and I thought that that would be the animated movie to look out for but this does look interesting. Like Buster Keaton meets Spy Vs Spy

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.I hava a grudge against Despicable Me, because the first trailer I sa made me think it was going to be a movie about Carmen Sandiego until the end. I was am disappoint.
I have a message from another time...I'm the same as Shadow Text, Mega Mind actually looks pretty interesting and has an awesome voice cast. I'm reall happy with Dream Works as of late, I hope How To Train Your Dragon is the start of an incline for them.
The problem I have with Megamind is the fact that it is made by the same team as Shrek. And that worries me in the "are they going to stuff it full of easily datable pop culture references?" Eh. I may just be worrying unnecessarily. I have liked some of their newer works (Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon especially) and I liked the original Shrek. -shrug-
I think Mega Mind looks good. I'm kind of worried, though, with DreamWorks putting out three CGI flicks in one year (How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek Forever After, and this) that the quality may suffer.
Not Quite Batman
Truth be told, I think Mega Mind will probably be the superior product. I find DreamWorks to be hugely underrated to be honest; for example, I had a far better time at Monsters Vs Aliens than I did at Wall E. Then again, I'm a walking sci-fi geek stereotype, so I may have enjoyed it on a different level than most people, what with all the SF culture in-jokes.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextMega Mind looks great, but if they pull the whole "look the villain is hopeless and lovable while the hero is a boring jerkass, isn't that CRAZY" I'm going to
be mildly annoyed.
WHO IS THIS LOSERDreamworks has been getting better, but IMO they've still need to work on the stories a bit to get to Pixar levels. Monsters vs. Aliens was fun, but put too much emphasis on Susan instead of the other monsters, for instance, and the best thing you can say about Shrek 4 was that it wasn't Shrek 3.
Don't have a vibe on Mega Mind yet, but I get the feeling it'll be predictable as hell for some reason.

^^ I'm fortunately not getting that vibe. Metroman doesn't seem like your standard "Superman... but he's a jerk! LOL!!" character. He seems like a genuine, well-meaning cape, a bad person only as seen through the eyes of his nemesis. Not!Lois did strike me as kind of annoying in that trailer, though. Not the good kind of snarky.
"Religion isn't the cause of wars, it's the excuse." —Mycroft NextHe generally did seem pretty likable ("And I love you too, random citizen!"), but I would like to bring up that, even though it was pretty hilarious, the dude was juggling babies. It strikes me as one of those things they throw into the trailer to make you laugh and then in the actual movie SURPRISE just more evidence as to how terrible a person he is.
I'm staying optimistic though, because even if it does go that route, it still seems like it'll prolly be pretty enjoyable, which is what I look for in a movie generally.

Dreamworks isn't underrated, it's extremely popular. It's just not nearly as popular as Pixar for various reasons. Dreamworks has some good movies but most of the movies rely on just popculture and dirty jokes. Popculture isn't bad, but it gets a little boring sometimes. Pixar usually tends to have comedy that fits well within the setting and it has a lot of heart. It also is a lot more family friendly which is a very big thing.

See, I liked Susan as the focus of MVA. She was actually an interesting character with a good Story Arc, and she defied a lot of norms without the writers going out of their way to point these defiances out. Instead of being all, "Look! We're subverting tropes! Aren't we edgy!" they just let the subversions speak for themselves.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaYeah, but IMO Monsters Vs Aliens would have been even better if all the monsters were developed further as characters, instead of "Susan and Her Wacky Sidekicks".
And I agree with diyedas that Dreamworks relies too much on pop culture humor. I enjoy it, mind you, but it also dates the movies faster. For me, watching Shrek 2 nowadays is a bit annoying due to the dated-and-no-longer-funny jokes, but Toy Story remains a film that I will gladly sit through and savor.

I'm honestly really looking forward to both of them. I've always wondered about movies, "If the villains in American animated films are usually much more entertaining and memorable than the good guys, why are the good guys almost always the focal point?" Good things come in pairs? :)
And on Dreamworks' pop culture, I honestly haven't seen much of it since Bee Movie three years ago.

I am also of the opinion that Shrek 2 is by far the best Shrek, pop culture or no pop culture.
It's like Aliens. A bigger-and-louder sequel, albeit without sacrificing plot. I approve.

Duelling Shows. Both are promising, but my bets are on Despicable Me. Here's why:
