Um, question. What do you think of Filipino voice actors? I think they succeed in maintaining the original Japanese dub more than the English ones. However, there are many exceptions.

Filipino dub is ok and all but how will Japanoise jokes be presented in Tagalog? And will Kansai dialect be Bisaya?

I can just imagine...

Katsuragi Keima: Nakikita ko na ang katapusan....

OMG! I forgot! What about the german, frenc and latin that pops out every now and then?

Chao Linsheng: Pansinin mo ang kasunduan and paglinkuran ako, hari ng apoy(?)

My friend and I have a lot of fun picking on anime and how they'll sound like when they're dubbed in Filipino. He actually has plans to take voice acting lessons too, since it's his hobby to just act out characters from random shows for comedy.

[up][up]Are you sure it isn't a form of "Blind Idiot" Translation? No offense intended. Hope it isn't.

Just my 2 cents.

Why not make Osaka characters speak Bisaya dialects...unfortunately, in Philippine culture...Bisaya is considered a maid dialect, perfect for Meido characters...but with Unfortunate Implications.

Curse Philippine TV for eliminating the afternoon anime slot in favor of soap operas and reality shows.

[up] Instead of using their talent for stupid soap operas, why not train them for voice talent?

Like, seriously, they had a good thing going with that Bleach thing, they just needed more polishing.

[up]Three words: Animation Age Ghetto.

[up][up]Unfortunate Implications indeed. And considering the Fantastic Racism going on against Visayans due to rather nasty portrayals of them in Slapstick Comedy, it's adding fuel to the fire.

Now, this is where the local Anime dubs get hit by the Animation Age Ghetto HARD. Now that executives have become increasingly Genre Savvy, one would think that they were intentionally Screwed by the Network in favor of shows catering to the Viewers Are Morons mentality.

Okay, let's see. Newest local releases of popular anime are aired at times where kids are already at school, and then in the afternoon, the kids are still not yet home because they're in front of the computer logging in to Facebook or playing DotA all day. Solution? Screw them and replace them with shows that follow this formula:

That way, kids would learn how to man up and realize how harsh Real Life could be for the weak instead of wasting their time on BS cartoons.

And oh, if you hate dubs, there's always your neighborhood pirate to your rescue providing you with the latest stuff straight from Japan! No BS needed!

Sorry, my last post was sort of a Wall of Text.

Say, somebody posted here that we lack Hot-Blooded VAs and yet we have an oversupply of Ojous, is that right?

I would like to add, I think we lack quality Shrinking Violets but have too many Tsunderes.

There's a reason why the Tsundere Archetype is Older Than They Think in the Philippines: Maricel Soriano. But then, she plays those kinds of roles before Tsundere became mainstream on the Internet.

[up] Oh I feel you, man.

Maricel Soriano actually started off as part of John En Marsha, itself way, way ahead of its time in the realm of sketch / improv comedy.

And too bad about Marky Cielo. He did a decent Ichigo Kurosaki.

Blind Idiot where? How do you translate "tyrant" in tagalog anyway? Isn't it "hari" since "Hari" is meant to mean "King" or any head of a community or kingdom?

[up][up]Which makes me wonder, did the Japanese draw their inspiration for the Tsundere archetype from the Diamond Star? I mean, were they thinking like, "Hey, what if we make a character like this, only much, much younger?"

[up]"Tyrant" means "a cruel leader", not necessarily "king". Not all tyrants are kings.

Hope this helps.

[up]Thus the closest translation would be "manlulupig" or "manguusig".

Manguusig is judge, tol. I don't think we have a good counterpart for tyrant sad. Manlulupig is conqueror, as in Si Alexander ang manlulupig. Tinalo niya ang mga Persiano

So I translated Heed the pact and serve me, tyrant of flame... to the one above.

[up][up] I don't think so. Sayaka Yumi was one of the first confirmed Tsunderes in anime, and this was even before Maricel Soriano got into her groove.

[up]I see. So it's REALLY older than I think, huh? But still, the Diamond Star had popularized the Tsundere archetype in Philippine TV and Film even before the term came into vogue.

Which comes into mind, are Maricel Soriano's roles Type A or Type B? Her roles don't seem to be that violent to be a Type A, but considering the news about her nowadays, she might as well be a Type A in Real Life.

Hmm.. okay, way off-topic there. Say, what is your verdict on the Philippine dub of Fairy Tail? Sure, the voices don't match the original that much, but IMHO they still managed to bring out the characters' personalities. So I can take it, no matter how Macekred some people would see it.

I noticed that the Japanese and Tagalog voices in Fairy Tail don't match and yet convey the same character personality. Especially Lucy's. Happy is OK, but Erza's don't quite match, either. Her VA is much more suited as Mirajane, though.

I also noticed in the Tagalog dub of the Australian kids show Bananas in Pajamas...B2 is Kira Yamato, Lulu is Lacus Clyne, Morgan is Ali al-Saachez, Amy is Lumiere, and B1 is Takamura. I say that is quite...odd.

And there is the tendency to re-dub the anime to the point that there are TWO Tagalog dubs, with two different V As. Sometimes it is complicated.

[up] Speaking of Filipino VA's, who the hell decided to cast a loli voice as Neliel? The heck?

They had different VA's?

I was referring to the grown-up one.

I'm planning to audition for a voice acting career, if 30+ isn't too old to make an entry into the business. We seriously need more male Deadpan Snarker types, and I plan to be one.

Assuming the BPO industry hasn't ruined my voice forever, of course. [lol]

Still finishing: a whole lot of shows from Fall 2013 and Winter 2014.

How about Large Hams a la Kamina? Or not really, but do we have high-grade Large Ham VAs in the Philippine voice acting industry?

[up] AFAIK the only hammy VA we had before was Earl Ignacio, and I think he's long retired from VA work.

I thought Railgun was dubbed in Hero TV at first, but it was actually Zettai Karen Children. Oh, well.

I said Railgun because Padre Damaso would just cockblock Index, particularly its magic side arcs which paint the RCC as villains, such as the Ars Magna Arc. So probably all we would see in Index should it get localized (though HIGHLY unlikely) is the three heroes: Touma, Mikoto, and Accelerator. All science. Yeesh. Oh well. At least the Science Side arcs were more interesting than the Magic Side arcs until the World War 3 Arc.

[up]I don't think the CBCP, or the Church for that matter, would involve themseves to something that small when they're still busy interfering with state policies. LOL.
