So some friends and I just watched the Unlimited Blade Works movie, and found it thorougly enjoyable. I'm not sure why everyone rags on the movie. I found it to be an excellent comedic parody of some of the more inconsistent elements of the Nasuverse, as well as anime in general. The three of us were laughing through a good portion of the movie, which has to say something about the overall quality. I mean, what good is satire if you can't laugh a little with it?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Sorry, despite what Memetic Mutation may say, Shirou isn't stupid. Shirou's actions have a bit more complex meaning then that.
There is a difference between "slimy scumbag", and "murder". Everybody just thinks Shinji's the former.
Well, I can see why you think Shirou's just stupid.
Fate isn't bad. I really think you just failed to get the entire story and should probably just stop reading it. Because you'll never get it anyways.
Yes, because his disagreement with you obviously means that he is right and you are wrong. And saying that the fellow "failed to get the entire stroy" is missing the point entirely. Part of the reason Fate has so many flaws seen as a stand alone is that it is, really, only a third of a story.
While I didn't mind Fate so much - I tend to find flawed protagonists curious rather than repulsive, even if they are not fantastically written - it could definitely be said that the action scenes and Saber's woobieriffic characterisation are the only real plus points. Although UBW left me feeling a little cold, it is certainly a more well-rounded story, and does a good job of filling in and justifying a lot of the stuff that seems weird about Fate. In particular Shirou is both a lot less stupid and receives a much more through justification for his nature. HF is sort of an all-singing all dancing finale, and in particular features a lot more attention paid to the antagonists of previous arcs.
Be advised, Fate Stay is quite a time commitment, and it has serious, gaping flaws. But taken as a whole, its a great deal more carefully structured and clever than it initially appears to be.

They give birth astride of a grave, the light gleams for an instant, then it's night once moreI apologize if this has been mentioned before, but I just kinda realized that, from a certain point of view, the entire CGI Dolphin scene could be interpreted as a one giant seafood-esque metaphor.

I write pretty good fanfiction, sometimes.

Yeah, Fate is the route where Shirou gets little to no Character Development. In UBW and HF he is a lot better.
As for being a poor judge of character, that is perhaps true, but I think it's more that he always tries to see the good in people, even when it's not there. After all, he is quite obviously aware that Shinji is not a particularly nice guy (in particular, because of what he did to Sakura), and he refuses to ally with him despite them supposedly being friends. He just isn't willing to give up on him, even when he is attempting to murder everyone.
It doesn't help, either, that Shinji wasn't always that bad. Before a certain event happened, he was selfish, but still seemingly a reasonably decent friend to Shirou. Since then, Shirou has gradually become estranged from him (especially after he saw him hitting Sakura), but he still remembers how Shinji used to be, and just thinks that the power of being a master has gone to his head (plus, Rin did tell Shirou that that was the only option for a weak master like him or Shinji).
