Ha. Ha ha. Ahahahahaha! An enemy in the Sharon District, the third map in Ogre Battle, dropped a Crown. Hahahahaha. That's utterly ridiculous.

I need to explain this. Ogre Battle works by organizing five soldiers (of many different classes) into a single unit with a Unit Leader. Each of these soldiers has a number of turns it can attack or cast spells in the entire battle before battle is resolved, and this number plus the type of action is dependent on whether the soldier is in the front or back row. For instance, if you place a wizard in the front row, he will beat an enemy with his staff twice, but putting him in the back row will cause him to use a Single Enemy Hit spell twice instead, which relies on a different stat he happens to have a higher amount of points in. Put a cleric in the back row, she heals a single soldier twice; put her in the front row, she attacks twice. Better units you get towards the end of the game can attack up to three times: the Paladin has three front row attacks, while the Lich can cast three Hit All Enemies spells in the back row.

There is a soldier type called the Amazon. It is a female archer. It is a basic type; you most likely start with several, and they can be recruited anywhere in the world. They can be upgraded to more useful classes, like Clerics or Valkyries, and most players do this because those types have stronger offensive or recuperative abilities. However, if you obtain an item in the course of the game called a Crown, you can upgrade an Amazon into a Princess.  *

A Princess is one of the best units in the game for two reasons. The first reason is that in the back row, the Princess casts three Hit All Enemies spells, but these spells are of the Holy element and therefore kill undead in one shot, which is awesome by itself. The second, and this is the coup de maître here, is that if you make a Princess the Unit Leader, she grants every soldier in her unit an extra turn, including herself. That's an extra healing, or an extra Hit All Enemies spell, or just extra bashing. The only way a Princess-led unit can lose a battle is if they're taking on a unit the mean level of which is much higher (which isn't very likely), or something that does ridiculous amounts of damage (which is only likely towards the end).

So, to restate, I just received a Crown on the third map of the game. I don't have a unit above level 11 yet. This is utterly ridiculous.

To put things in perspective, the Big Bad of the game is a wizard who casts a Hit All Enemies spell five fucking times when most units only go two or three times.

And Sonic 2006 is regularly beat. It was not easy, that's for sure...oh, and the final boss' S Rank was quite easily gotten.

Just downloaded the Wii Ware game Water Warfare. It is bizarrely entertaining, although I can already tell that getting Gold ranks on all the sniper-centric missions on the Beach is going to test my patience.

I kind of wish there was an option to just run around one of the randomly-generated maps; the playground is actually fun to, you know, play around on. I guess I could go into a two-player game and never touch P2, but I don't have a second Wiimote. :(

^What he said. Unless it's something like Second Life.

The closest you'll get is City Of Heroes. Which is more 'less grinding that usual' rather than 'no grinding'.

I suppose, if you consider Guild Wars an MMO, there's that too...

But there's a reason for that. How would they not have grinding and make it work? They need to keep the players, well, playing so they can make money, and most game mechanics don't work well in a massively multiplayer setting.

For example, puzzle solving. Okay, so you're off pushing blocks around trying to plop it on a switch. Some asshole comes around and decides to prevent you from solving it in any way he can. Or maybe he solves it after you spend an hour of work on it, claiming all the credit. And then nobody else on the server gets to solve the puzzle until it resets.

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, look into Lego Universe.

Woohoo Jett Rocket! It's easy, though, which is kind of sad. Maybe the later areas will be more challenging.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Tales of Bearsworth Manor games (besides "Square Enix sure loves its money)? They look interesting, but only Nintendo Life has reviewed them (they're usually the first to post reviews on WiiWare games, but I'd like to hear other outside opinions before I consider playing them).

Sorry, I don't have it in my possession.

Oh, and I'm looking for good PS 3 / DS games, as well with Anything Indie/Doujin. I prefer Shumps and Innovative RPGS (Knights In The Nightmare For Example), but other games are fine too.

For shmups on the DS, you could try Nanostray and Nanostray 2.

As for the PS 3, the Soldner-X games (moreso the second than the first) and the Gundemonium Collection are also very good, if you've got yourself a PSN account.

Played the Kamui Trial, with only 2 stages. I can still trust the developers for making a good trial to one of the best Doujin Shumps. And the RefleX Trial... is Awesome.

Oh, and Fraxy, and Knights In The Nightmare.

Basically, I'm open to shumps, especially the Bullet Hell Kind.

If we're talkin' DS RP Gs, allow me to Entry Pimp Fossil Fighters summore... :P

So I just discovered that there's apparently a totally legit  *

way to play as Master Hand in Super Smash Bros Melee. It certainly sounds like an old playground rumor (Oh, you have to press this button and this button at just the right time!), but it actually glitches the game into loading up the first character data, which is... Master Hand. I need to try this.

^^ That one's been around since last year, I believe. It's weird to think something like that was in the game the whole time, and wasn't discovered till now.

Upon Freezie's recommendation, I have test-driven Jett Rocket, and I likey. It looks like it's going to be kinda short, but I don't mind.

It's Wii Ware, after all, so yeah, short was probably inevitable.

However, from what I've read from Shin'en, Jett Rocket 2 might go retail depending on what the overall reaction to the game is. They know they're probably making a sequel, for themselves if no one else, but little else is known.
