I use Photoshop (CS 4) and Paint Tool Sai. And sometimes the old, old original version of Open Canvas.
A lot of the time, messing around with brush settings might create a brush that works better or is more responsive to pressure sensitivity or whatever. I find that some of the brushes in Sai blend too much or not enough at times when I find it inconvenient. But you can get some nice effects if you're doing anime artwork and want to imitate visual novel slides or something.
ShineHmm... so, assuming I bought a Bamboo Create, what's the general opinion on the software bundle? I've been using an old version of Paintshop Pro (6.0) up 'til now, and I'm assuming it's not going to play very nice with a touchpad. I'm thinking about using it to create a webcomic- pencil art to start, and then (probably, assuming I can figure out how without going insane) digital inking and maybe colour (again, assuming I can figure out a way to do it that doesn't look horrible and/or take me forever).
Is the software bundle good enough for that sort of thing, do you think?
Ok. My father told me money is not an option if I want a tablet. He'll get me a good one. —eyes Bamboo Create—
HOWEVER, he wants me to try one out, and make sure I know I want it, because he feels it will hinder me more than help me.
I am not a GREAT artist, but I can draw.
So, what should I consider before getting one?
oddlyMake sure the tablet has enough programmable buttons to suit your needs. Reaching back and forth between tablet and keyboard gets old real fast.
Also, make sure it fits the space available on your desk and, above all, whether it's cordless or not, which may affect how you move your hard.

Thank you very much. Is it hard to get accustomed to not seeing what you're drawing?
oddlyPersonally, I've never had a problem with it, though some people have reported that they found it hard to do. When I move my pen, the cursor on screen moves along, so I know where I'm drawing.
All right. I am left handed, but my mouse is right handed, and I always had trouble drawing with a mouse, so I hope it's at least more intuitive than that.
oddlyI'm exactly the same and that's one reason I got a tablet—I absolutely, positively cannot draw with a mouse. I have an Intuos4 Wireless and it's a huge help.

Know how you feel: I can only draw/write right-handed, but can only mouse left-handed (don't ask me why—ambidexterity can be weird that way). That's mainly why I haven't stretched out into computer art ... only a pen tablet will do, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to acquire one.
"She was the kind of dame they write similes about." —Pterodactyl JonesThis is kind of a photoshop question but whatever, here goes: How do I replace everything that is a certain color with transparency, without using the fill bucket set to "clear"?
I am really forcing myself not to buy a tablet. I want to master using a pencil first.

Manga Studio is actually pretty good.
