Well, this is ONE good thing about having a computer-based math class. I can surf the net for five hours!

Well, more like three and a half, since obviously the prof doesn't need to talk for five hours, but still. TVTROPES YAY.

Heh, all of our addresses are on "andrew", it's the local network that was developed before the internet.

This is the school where the first emoticon was sent.

My regular habit of importing chips from another part of the dining hall into our Quiznos, which lacks the kind I like, failed for the first time this year. Normally it fails because the cashier at the start is one that doesn't know me and my habits, and so there's about a 50% chance of being told "No, pay for it here." No, that wasn't the problem this time.

The starting end was just fine. When it came time to pay at Quiznos, though, the cashier and I were mutually unfamiliar with each other and he started asking me about the chips. Since usually they either never noticed it wasn't a type they carried, or knew me and just didn't care, I wasn't used to being questioned. I couldn't really understand what he was trying to ask me, though.

So then another employee very plainly asked "Did those come from here?" and I said no. And she very plainly told me that I couldn't pay for them there. This is the first time that's ever happened, the first time someone has actually noticed that yes, these are Lays Classic and no, they don't sell them anymore. She told me to go pay for those separately where I got them from. As I paid for my sandwich and drink, I said "To be brutally honest, I've been doing this for a long time and never had any problems." I'm not sure if they heard me.

Here's the kicker: I didn't feel like going all the way back down to pay for the chips at their point of origin. They're less than a dollar, I thought to myself. People steal small items from the dining halls all the time, this is like my first time "stealing" anything ever. So I never paid for my chips. And you know what? I really don't care.

So you took those potato chips...AND ATE THEM?

Oh gog, I don't even watch Deathnote, why was that the first thing to come to mind?

Well at least you paid for them in the past instead of stealing them every day. I'm sure your karma isn't bruised at all~

I never eat on campus, since I can get a better meal for half the cost at the Moe's down the block.

[up]The food options around campus are pretty terrible, and even if they weren't I'm lazy, and I will bluntly say cost is not an issue.

As for everything else...

Oh my god, I didn't even think of the Death Note! Nice job!

And yeah, the most edgy thing I've done before is take them out of the lower area without going through the register because it was crowded and I don't want to hold up the line by explaining my situation. No one's ever noticed me doing it...as I said, I know friends have stolen occasional small items from there without getting caught. Not that I condone that...

Just getting my Quiznos sandwich made in the first place is always an adventure. If the person making it doesn't know me, they're almost always skeptical of my "Just turkey on regular white, nothing else". Yes, I get it, your on-menu options are very complex, but I'm asking for something very simple here. Do I sound like some international student having a hard time articulating in English what I want? I don't think so. Thankfully, regular staff members know me, but some of them (not any of the current ones though) would kind of make fun of me for always getting the same really simple thing.

Er...Thomas L. Friedman, Mitch Albom, Debra Messing, Jack Abramoff (for what that's worth, heh), Abbie Hoffman...

Ok, we're a very young school by most standards, and were not exactly on the highest level of status throughout most of our existence...give it 50 years and we'll see what happens!

Do we want to also open the topic to famous faculty? Because that would make things a little more interesting on my part...

I'm not so sure about the university as a whole, but I know that a graduate of the vet school here won a Nobel prize for his work on the immune system.

Uconn as a whole was established in 1881, but my campus opened in 1939 and moved to where it is now in 1970.

If I have, I wouldn't know.

I'm on the Greater Hartford campus, just so you know. I've never been to Storrs or any of the other regional campuses (except the Health Center for my uncle's shots).

[up][up]You're at that campus? I know exactly where that is! I didn't think they had dorms there, to be honest...we should really try to organize a local tropermeet during winter break.

And might I remind you, my dad has worked at the health center for over 20 years. I know that place like the back of my hand. Nice mountaintop setting, eh?

And, er, Joe...we were founded 1948. And boy do we ever know it. I think we have some kind of age complex...

Um, no, they don't have dorms. Way too small for that.

It's only like four buildings, that's how small it is.
