@Jbstormburst:
I appreciate the vote of confidence, but that's way too much of a tall order for me. Admittedly, all I can produce are snippets in a serious need of beta-ing and most of my knowledge of the English language is self-taught (I'm a Spanish native speaker), which makes me a less-than-qualified person for the job.
Still, thank you for remind me that I used to write stuff like that. Reading through the material reminded me of all the fun I had writing them and I even found some of my old notes with a few unused ideas that I'd like to explore. For old times' sake, if anything.
@bdh-vn team:
Good to hear you guys are working on the Kinetic Novel again. Are you still using the site bdh-vn.blogspot.com
to publish updates/report progress?
I seriously pegged you for a native English speaker — and for the record, people seem to always mistake me for a native English speaker if they don't know me or where I come from.

OK, you definitely fooled me into thinking you weren't ESL. Damn, when you do write, though, you can certainly write.
Also, if we're talking the VN, I tested out the build from a few days ago with the other files from the official release, and after some editing (Harry BC Dresden, you really need to stop using tab instead of spaces for indenting), I was able to get the .exe to commence successfully.
Okay. This is the first of what I hope will become weekly updates on the fic's status.
Good (?) news: I will be attempting to finish book 1. Semi-bad news: I won't be able to start researching in-depth for at least another week. I have a business trip (that will coincide with a remembrance lunch for Brian) through next Wednesday, but once I get back I plan to start an in-depth re-reading of K:BDH itself. Once the re-read is done, I'll be sorting through my PM notes between myself and Brian to try to get a handle on what's coming up next, and then I should be able to start doing some actual writing.
I anticipate that the re-read and notes review should take 2-3 weeks. Part of the reason for the weekly updates is to help me stay on track with writing; my biggest hurdle in getting any writing at all done is keeping myself accountable to do it, so keeping you all updated should help me with that.
I will probably look into getting the incomplete chapter 63 posted once I get back from my trip.
I can only help one person per day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow's not looking good either.In all sincerity, Halbarad, thank you. Like I said before I can't imagine what you're feeling in all this, and I think it means a lot to all of us that you'd even consider stepping up and taking the reins.
Is it wrong to be worried about the fate of a story in light of what happened? It makes me feel bad but I only really "knew" him as the author of this and his other stories. =/

I wish there were stronger words for this. All I have is "thank you". Doesn't matter how long it takes, just that you decided to try.
@Eamil
It's natural to fear for a story in such uncertain times. Excuse me if this seems kind of sappy, but we got a measure of Mr. Randall through his work.

Always late for everything.I've been silent for months and months on end, but it must be said: thanks for taking this up, Halbarad, and godspeed. In the eyes of many cultures through the ages, his spirit would be seen as living on through his works and name, and there would be no greater crime than to let it sink away in neglect.
Thank you very much, Halbarad! I'll very much look forward to the weekly updates, and the upcoming chapter as well, even if incomplete.
The Clock is Wound, The Future Must Commence! (tm)It really shouldn't be that hard to make an .epub version. Anyone who downloaded the .mobi version could toss it into Calibre and get the .epub back. You might have to tweak the chapter detection and chapter threshold first, but it should work alright. Only reason why I'm not doing that now is because it would probably work a bit better if the original document was converted to .epub instead of the .mobi version, and Eamil has that.
@Halbarad:
Thanks for your efforts, we really appreciate it.
Also, while I'm a frankly lousy beta reader, I like to think I'm good to spot self-consistency issues and the like. It's not much, but I hope that it will be of some help with those continuity mistakes and contradictions that are likely to occur when another writer takes over a work as extensive like K:BDH.
@Eamil:
I posted the PDF. About the EPUB, I found this link
in my bookmarks, but I don't remember who made it. Currently, this version is updated until the finale of the Resolution Arc (Chapter 62).
Missed the update last week due to work travel, but there wasn't much to report in any case.
I plan to start the in-depth reread of K:BDH itself later this week, and I've already started sifting through my private message logs. I'll also be contacting folks on IRC in the next day or two to see about getting chapter 64 up; I still need to add an editor's note to it, and come up with a title and epigraph for it, though.
I can only help one person per day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow's not looking good either.@Halbarad:
Thanks for dropping by to keep us up to date. BTW, where the next chapter will be updated to? I don't really know why but using Brian's old site doesn't sit well with me even though I understand that fragmenting the story isn't the most pragmatic thing to do.
My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionMy plan is to add this chapter to his site, since it was the last of what he actually wrote himself. I hadn't yet decided about where to post them as I move forward - whether they'll go on my ff.net account or his site or a combination of the two.
Edited to add: I also came across an old document where we'd collected some fic ideas that we'd considered writing at some point in the future. I'll probably clean up the list and get them posted on Soulriders later this evening, with the exception of Fragmentation (which is an Asakura-centric fic that I started a couple of years ago, but haven't worked on in an age.)
These won't be related to K:BDH specifically, but for those folks that enjoyed Brian's writing beyond K:BDH, it might be interesting.
He did specifically say that anything he'd come up with was free for public use, so if someone else wants to use anything that's posted to try their hand at writing, feel free. You can ping me for further details if you're interested in picking anything from the list up, as most of these came out of PM discussions with Brian and I can likely dig out more details from my logs if needed.

I hope Halbarad is all right, no weekly update since Feb. 11...
The Clock is Wound, The Future Must Commence! (tm)

I just started my Spring semester, but I can try to continue my clean-up/fine-tuning work from where I left off on the weekends or when I get some free time (which I've been seeing less and less of, as of late
).
