For one, we give our support to Halbarad, in the continuance of hoping he will pick it up to finish Book 1. After that, I don't know how many books there were intended to be, but either it ends there, or, and I apologize if anyone is offended by this, talk to all the authors who loved it. Ever seen the book series' for Tom Clancy's Endwar or Net Force? Acknowledging who the true author one will never measure up to is, while writing possibly a maintained continuity of works set beyond it.
I seem to recall that someone over on FFN at one point talked to him about the idea of writing something on Kanae and stuff she may have seen, and Brian didn't object, and showed interest in the possibility.

The Clock is Wound, The Future Must Commence! (tm)Looking at the last pages of this thread it's hard not to be a little sentimental, you know? This thread isn't because of his wholes "career", as to say, as a fanfic writer: this thread is deom K:BDH, just one work. I can only imagine how many people had followed him for so many years beforehand in the soulriders forum or the fanfiction mailing lists he participated a lot of time beforehand.
I... had deceded some time ago not to get to know him personally so much, because I thought I was going to be better fan (with the implicit agreement to give reviews and comments on his works Nanoha-style) than a close friend with the whole internet separation and living in a whole other hemisphere. Now I think I've come to regret that decision.

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerI personally regret having been out of touch with him for many months; we used to discuss quite a bit about KBDH over e-mails in a more "co-equal friends" way than a "fan and his favorite story's author" way, even though he agreed with my insistence on avoiding spoilers.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.@Filraen: I will definitely keep you posted on my decision. I'll need to complete a close re-read of the story myself to make sure I have the right characterizations in mind, plus going through the plot notes and PM discussions we'd had about K:BDH to make sure I stick as closely as I can to what he had in mind.
I'll try to keep you all updated at least once a week on what progress has been made or what's currently going on with the story. Bear in mind that I am a -much- slower writer than Brian was.
@Greenmantle: If there is someone by that name on that site, it's not me.
@Carrie The Troper: Only the end of book 1 has been conclusively plotted. Chapter 64 was about 80% completed by Brian; I'll probably get what's there up for C&C and posted in the next couple of weeks. It'll be shorter than most K:BDH chapters are, but regardless of whether I continue the story or not, I'll definitely make sure that what Brian had completed is made available.
There were some vague notes and ideas for where the story would go past that point; those will either be shared when I make the decision not to continue the story or when I've finished writing out book 1, depending on which way that goes. I definitely don't feel I have the skill to write a book 2, however, so I won't be taking on that project.
@Marq FJA and others: I can definitely confirm that this is no prank, and that Brian would have been horrified at the idea of someone doing something like this as a prank.
I can only help one person per day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow's not looking good either.@Halbarad: Either way, thank you very much for even considering to carry this on. A lesser person would just have dropped in lieu of other things.
Always late for everything.@Halbarad:
Under the suggestion I made, you wouldn't have to, was the thought. I'll just be glad if you decide to finish 1.
It's not reasonable to expect any fanfic author to write a fanfic that extensive ever again, really.
The Clock is Wound, The Future Must Commence! (tm)@Halbarad: My point is, as much as I'd like to have K:BDH continued as the others here, it's your decision alone to continue it or not and I won't push for it. And really, did you really expect any other answer from here of all places in the Internet?

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerI vaguely remember seeing at least one troper page that was preserved as a memorial. I wonder who to ask about doing that for Durandall.
Or maybe I'm thinking of a different site that did that.

It sad that he(she?) only have memorial in internet.
The nice thing, he(She?) have one memorial in each of our hearts. K:BDH just that awesome. I wonder if I can following the "Step By Step to build a harem for your boyfriend" in there.
I am not English Native speaker, But that doesn't stop me from writing in English.![]()
No, we do have at least on troper page in the manner that you described; I've seen it.
...is that really a question to ask? Seriously, man. Either way, Durandall was a smart guy and nobody likes to suffer, so i like to think he didn't. Nobody mentioned it, nobody wants to think about it.
I wanted to tell you guys something i thought and said to the VN group a few days ago.
We might try to finish the VN, the development of which basically ground to an halt a long while ago because of reasons, and we one by one quit working on it, in my case my clash with the Author certainly had weight.
I feel like we owe it to him, and i always felt that His works deserved much more than what they got. It's a shame that, being fanfiction, he couldn't publish them properly - i always felt he deserved the notoriety, especially for his Haruhi works.
I felt they deserved to be known, and now that He can't write anymore, it's _our_ responsibility to make it happen, because if we don't, i feel like they'll gather dust and it'll not be long before they're forgotten together with him (of course not by close friends, but you get my gist), and i can't let that happen. They're a gift he gave to everyone, it'd be awful to let it rot.

Right now we need the script edited and more sprites.
The scripting uses Ren'py, and it boils down to "Show Kyon Sigh6 at Center" or something similar most of the time.
As for sprites, Agasa is doing most of the work on sprites, and there's a list somewhere of what sprites we still need.
Come chat with us in the #bdh-vn channel at irc.lunarnet.org and we'll find out what you can do to help.

I suppose wait to see if the story is continued by Halbarad. If not, maybe request for the notes to be released.
Either option is going to require some patience.
