The canon suggests that. In Wandering Shadow Yuki comments about an species whose data existence still continues after their bodies are no more. And in Surprise spoiler
K:BDH!Yuki, if not restricted like Asakura in the prologue extension, can survive even without a body. Otherwise she wouldn't be able to get into ghost data form in Hinamizawa.

Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerSo, Yuki can technically invoke the Cute Ghost Girl trope, then?

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...![]()
Wait, do you want to kill Yuki?
... bah, I'm too sleepy to say it with enough emotion.
Kyon: Big Damn Hero: timeline & trailerAnother question, what would happen to Yuki if she was destroyed like Asakura now that she is disconnected from IDSE? Asakura could return because she is stored in IDSE, but Yuki isn't. What does "Haruhi is Yuki's superior" exactly mean, other than Yuki filtering Haruhi's Reality Warping?

@Jigaboo: It's possible that closed-space!Haruhi or Yuki thought about that after Kyon was shot. Probable there is some passive function that will teleport Kyon to a closed space if an attack is about to kill him. There is a precedent: "I'm John Smith" emergency codeword took effect before Kyon completed the phrase (from Tsuruya's PoV), so it's feasible that this hypothetic function could exists and be capable of preventing lethal harm on Kyon (Unspoken Plan Guarantee FTW).
Also, Mikuru (all of them) and possibly Fujiwara would intervene if it comes to that.
Random thought:
If Sasaki is looking for a place within the Tsuruya-tachi, and beside Kyon, she could become his lawyer in the future. I get the impression Sasaki feels smugly superior, even if it's just a little bit, when she is proved right about something and a job where you get paid for just that (or at least making impossible for the other guy to prove you wrong) would be a perfect (and profitable) way to use up that energy. Bonus Points for her if she avoids breaking any laws in the process.
Edit:
In that scenario, Mori could be her mentor. Beware of Psychotic Smirk (the next generation).

My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionConsidering only Haruhi and Yuki's (and possibly Kuyou's) knee-jerk reactions, then I wouldn't want be within ten universes away from KBDH world. Maybe in Half Life 2 Crapsack World, they at least have a chance.
I would like to think Haruhi and Yuki can live pass Kyon's death after all their Character Development. I would hate every second of it but that would speak better of the characters than causing The End of the World as We Know It. Bonus Points if they can accomplish that and to subvert Laser-Guided Amnesia at the same time.
There is also the unfortunate moral implications in the case Kyon can be resurrected. Replacement Goldfish is NOT a cool option to me either.
Umm...
I really dislike this post of mine.
To everybody: Please don't follow up my ideas.

My K:BDH Recursive FanfictionReplacement Goldfish would't apply to an actual resurrection, would it?
Replacement Goldfish is generally cloning someone to replace the dead original or something. Came Back Wrong is when someone is resurrected and the process goes wrong.

The impression I've gotten (just about entirely from K:BDH, since I don't know the canon) is that the interfaces are not entirely bound to their actual bodies, but might reinstantiate themselves if their bodies were destroyed. Which is certainly a nontrivial endeavor; AFAIK it's only been managed with intervention by Sasaki's power, which is somewhere stated to be Haruhi-level. (Do we count what's happened to Asakura as injury?)
