Wouldn't that mean that she would have to believe in the supernatural in order to do so? Because otherwise she would be have to lie to Kyon, something that I think would be against Sasaki's nature as Kyon's friend. In fact, if Sasaki somehow ends up believing in the supernatural (perhaps due to a enemy slider attack, maybe?), it would be more likely that Kyon would end up pulling her to his side instead. And with her her world tured upside down like that, she might become not so Oblivious to Love anymore, thanks to Character Development (i.e., recovering from the shock, realizing that her friends are not lying, and being in doubt of everything that she had thought previously...).

Of course. Sasaki wouldn't tell to Kyon such an obvious (to her) lie if she considers Kyon can take her word at face value.

Latest chapter, quite entertaining, with Kyon cowing Fujiwara into doing what he wants, while at the same time finding a loophole in the Predetermination theory.

Also, 'Whispering Winds' is the perfect title for this, considering Kyon talks to Masao while invisible.

Interesting to see how Miyuki's underlings feel about her.

I do wonder about who the 'beautiful young teacher' turns out to be.

And I'm perfectly willing to accept the Hand Wave about the Higurashi backstory Durandall wrote in his notes at the end. Heck, I should have suggested it myself(had I thought of it >.<)

All in all, I have to thank Durandall for another enjoyable chapter ^^

Heh, nice mini review, Rain.

Perhaps "shounen/shoujo ai" would be better terms than "yaoi/yuri" to use in this case?

@thedarkfreak: Arigato.

Since I'm actually new as to the application of spoiler tags, I'll just do this...

Edit: Damn it. The spoiler tags failed on me. I may have to wait until they're not needed to post... sad

Also, I recommend Handling Spoilers.

Ironically, Mad Kitsu, the post you made would have allowed spoilers. The 6th post after a 'new chapter' notice doesn't have to mask spoilers. Hmm, I suppose I shouldn't have double-posted. Wonder why I didn't think of editing at the time.

Thanks, guys. And yes, that was my mistake as well, much to my annoyance. That, and counting.

Hm... What to point out first...

Well, Mikuru has a real problem with Kyon calling her by her first name. Namely, that she gets a Cuteness Overload and kisses Kyon every time he does so. Would this qualify under just the Cuteness Overload trope, or is this going to require a rewrite in the relavent portion of the Crowning Moment of Funny section? Because I have a bad feeling that this is going to happen more often...

And the loophole in the Predetermination Theory that Kyon had discovered somehow reminds me of some of the concepts behind Booster Gold for some reason. Hmm...

Mikuru's reaction being or not in CMoFunny is independent of it being or not an example of Cuteness Overload.

Tricked Out Time, one of the most triumphant examples of Genre Savvy in my book and both Mikuru and Kyon are aware on how it can go.

I think it's high time that I share this little bit of Fridge Brilliance that I hand way back. Remember when Haruhi made her Memory Gambit in Chapter 5? Well, consider this passage, right as they have their second kiss:

She let her eyes drift shut as her head tilted back and her lips pursed, the last thought through her mind as everything turned into light that he would probably notice the small change she had made in him, as well.... But he probably wouldn't mind too much.

By that point, I had already spoiled for myself the CMOF Furo Scene involving Hanyuu and Nagato Kyon in Chapter 15.

"Right," Kyon announced to no one in particular, standing up in the tub, water sloughing off him. Hanyuu and the other girl both found their heads turning, eyes flicking to the young man as he stepped out of the bathtub and looked around for a towel. From the vantage of the doorway, Hanyuu bemusedly thought that their linked hands might provide inadvertent modesty to him, covering up the most interesting areas.

From the vantage of her and the other girl, such a thing was not an issue. After a few gloriously silent minutes, holding hands and watching Kyon search for a towel, Hanyuu finally wrenched her attention back to the other girl. Her intentions weren't absolutely clear, but 'harm' didn't seem to be on that list.

"We have just shared a wonderful experience," Hanyuu stated. "We should use this opportunity to become friends."

The other girl slowly raised her face, her eyes tearing from Kyon to study her appraisingly before she released the held hands and gave a single, terse nod. "Wonderful," she agreed.

Now reread both quoted passages. Draw your own conclusions.

...there are no words in which I can respond to that...

On an unrelated note, I want to point out the following from the latest chapter, in which Haruhi demostrates her Crazy Preparedness...

She turned to look at him before opening the door to the club room, realizing he seemed a bit less energetic than usual. "What's got you down, subordinate?" she chided, finding a smile for him, anyway. "You didn't tell me how your family dinner went last night, either!"

He snorted, shaking his head. "Just generically tired, I guess," he answered, glancing down the hall as Koizumi approached, Yuki a step behind him. "I used to be able to nap during class ... I miss that sleep."

"Give me a week," she replied resolutely. "Then I'll be done figuring out the assignment patterns from all of our teachers, and we can start doing classwork and homework a few days in advance."

He stared at her, eyes widening. "That's how you can sleep through the last part of every term?" he asked. "I knew you could calculate impossible things things with your unreasonable genius, but that far?"

"It's not rocket surgery," she chided as she felt her face heat up, scowling as she opened the door to the club room and turned to face Kyon. "It's basic psychology, plus the the fact that almost no teacher in all of Japan deviates from an approved lesson plan! Haven't I called every single pop quiz this year, at least two days in advance? I thought you could read people! Come on, it's easy, right Yuki-chan?" In fact, she believed wholeheartedly that even Kyon could do it, if he could just muster the willpower to focus for the duration of his classes! Only his laziness held him back.

Also, I just realized that Mikuru's reaction to Kyon calling her name in the newest chapter actually counts towards the Forceful Kiss trope... Fancy that.

Edit: Holy cow, I just recalled something from the In Media Res Prologue:

He was absolutely certain that if his sense of anxiety weren't imagined, she was the one behind it - one way or another. When the third period bell rang, he was prepared. In a way, he'd always wanted to do this; extract that one tiny bit of revenge upon her for all the times she'd done it to him. So when she rose, turned in one smooth motion, and made to bolt out of the room-

-he was there first, seizing the decorative ties of her sailor uniform's neckerchief and making for the door at top speed. "Bwa!" she protested, arms waving frantically as she dashed to keep up, or risk the knot being pulled out. "What the hell do you think you're doing!"

Naturally, he said nothing to her during the entire mad dash to the remote stairwell where she had first hauled him by his own tie, so long ago. He released her at the top of the steps after looking around to ensure that no one else was nearby. Her momentum carried her forward, resulting in him pressing one hand flat against her chest, just below her neck. Her eyes quickly sharpened, her features fixed into a scowl. "What the hell, Kyon!"

Doesn't that also count towards the Necktie Leash trope?

Also, the Innocent Innuendo in the same prologue is incorrect.

Standing perfectly straight, hands at his sides, he closed his eyes, and began speaking in his best faux movie announcer voice-over: "Skinsuit active," as something that looked like nothing so much as black paint suddenly engulfed his entire body beneath his uniform. "Gravometric stabilizers and secondary gyrometrics online," as ridged metal studs appeared on the back of each knuckle, and beneath his uniform pants, metalic vertical rails were described in the skinsuit. "Greatcoat thermoptic and tactile stealth disengaged," as a knee-length tan greatcoat coalesced, covering his shoulders with a thick mantle.

"Doesn't that get hot?" Her smile had only grown, her eyes shining with anticipation.

"Environmental conditioning is built in," he said in a normal voice. Switching back, he said, "Primary weapons check." He pulled a fifty centimeter long glittering metal cylinder from within the greatcoat, releasing it to spin on its axis in midair to one side, announcing, "Long range precision and high yield weaponry is at full charge." A circle of light appeared on the floor around him, a simple white ring with glittering sparks chasing around in either direction, sending brilliant flashes to streak upwards.

I do believe that she's referring to his Badass Longcoat, not his beam saber. It still counts, though, and Haruhi's excitement towards his...

Wait, why hasn't the Transformation Sequence trope been noted yet?

@Marq: Even though I know what change Haruhi was referring to, thinking about it like that made it twenty times more hilarious.

@Mad: is it really a transformation sequence? After all, he always has those gadgets on him. He just turns them visible during those times.

It's the mundane variety (listed under "Other", I believe), and it could be considered a subverion of the said trope for that reason.

Edit: Now that I think on it, it could be of the Henshin Hero variety (a subverion of it, but still)...

Huh, I didn't know this even existed. (Thread, not fic.)

This. Fic. Is. Awesome. I'm on Chapter Nineteen now, and it's only been smooth sailing — though I admit I skipped almost straight over the Hinakam...izawa? chapters, not being familiar with Higurashi beyond 'Everyone stabs everything, and everything returns the favor'. Seems things turned out well for them, though.

It's been fun.

Haruhi made a pretty big decision in those chapters that works as something of a game changer for the SOS Brigade for the rest of the story... if you didn't read the Hinamizawa chapters enough to pick that up, you might want to go back, or things could get a bit confusing.

That would be her decision to steer everyone toward a Type 2 Tenchi themselves, right?

I skimmed rather than skipped, to be honest.

(Also: it's hard not to start talking in Tsuruya. And I'm absolutely thrilled that Kentaro has the same verbal tic.)

'Twos'? :P

Anyway, I have returned! Complete with newly written contributor page on here (might be fun to read), new avatar, new signature... loooots of new stuff. XD

Well, got some other stuff to check and then it's time to write a review!

Oh, and Shoujo/Shounen-ai probably would've fit more, but I was writing on a phone. Would take too long. :3

Jerkass: Kyon's Mother, Full Stop.

Wait, what? Does that even fit?

Finished the review! All... 1500 words of it. O_o

Anyone noticed how Verbal Tics appear to be inheritable in this story? Both Tsuruya's have it, Rika's daughter's picked up her habit of saying nipah... :O

Tsuruya-speak is awesome, I agree.

On another unrelated change of topic, I was just looking through some of the reviews. One - by someone called Heavenly Observer - concerned Skynet eventually creating a virtual Kyonko. Now that's a fantastic idea. :D

Indeed, though I always end up translating that one back into Japanese when I read it.

I created a review which takes up coming close to... half of the current height of all the reviews on that page. I'm not sure whether to be proud or horrified.
