Mandemo: I meant the second panel of the Superdickery picture
— the third panel is just Superman in the trap. All you would need to make the second panel (which shows the setup) work is to put a caption with a link and "Yes. Yes, they would."
So we've named this page Batman Gambit. There's Batman, in the title. It would be really great if the page image had some overarcing page service such as underlining the particular depiciton of Batman that makes his a good candidate for page namer. It would also be good if Manipulative Bastard had a page image of someone who was actually an example.
An attempt at Batman Gambit =/= A Batman Gambit. Considering the Batman Gambit are...well successful. An attempt is just an attempt.
Seriously, I think Batman in question should be in the picture. (however considering Xanatos isn't the page image on HIS gambit page....? that's just the way he planned it.)
Xanatos smirking shouldn't have been the Xanatos Gambit page image in the first place. While I'm not strictly opposed to all JAFAAC images, it was clear in that particular case that we could do better.

I'm bumping this because in looking for an image for Heroic Sacrifice I came up with an alternative image for Batman Gambit; it would be from this
video, at about 5 minutes and 46 seconds in. (And maybe including the panel at 5 minutes and 58 seconds in.)
(I do agree though - I'd prefer it if we found a good gambit image containing Batman.)
Another panel from the same comic was actually considered as a page image for the comic book section of Memetic Mutation, until people decided to use the Doom comic instead.
Anyway, I suppose that would be an acceptable image, (preferably with Have a Gay Old Time referenced in the caption) though not necessarily an ideal one.
I'm sort of left wondering now what's wrong with the Sonic image I suggested.
The Sonic image is text-heavy and big.
I like the Have a Gay Old Time image. What did boner mean back in those days?

That's kind of why I mentioned the idea of removing the third panel.
Anyway, yeah, boner meant stupid mistake. The fittingness of the use of that meaning to its other meaning really highlights the numerous similarities between erections and stupid mistakes.
Bumping this to ask other users than the one who already answered, apart from being text heavy, what is wrong with this
option?

I have no inherent problem with the text, but I just don't get what's going on in it, what the characters are trying to do, or how it relates to Batman Gambit. I suspect at least some minimal background knowledge of the characters is required for it to make sense.

It's passable, but it's rather noisy. There's a lot of visual elements that the comic is emphasizing that aren't related to the trope, so the Batman Gambit isn't really front-and-center. The important elements are the speech bubbles, Sonic jumping out, and Sonic's Oh, Crap! expression when he realizes he's been tricked...but competing with all those relevant parts are the giant robots, the turtle hiding in his shell, and the dog guy and Robotnik standing around just chillin'. So, like, it demonstrates the trope, but it's not super-great.

Bump...got some other options:
- Panels 3 and 4 from this
Sequential Art strip
- Panels 2 and 3 from this
Freefall strip
Noe's Sonic one works really well for me just using frames 1 and 2, or even just 2. The dog character even lampshades his Batman Gambit in panel 2 "I knew you wouldn't stay in your room, Sonic! You're too much of a hero."

The Calvin and Hobbes one is perfect. It's not a successful Batman Gambit, but it shows how one is set up, at least, and a win-win plan is a Xanatos Gambit, not a Batman Gambit, which necessarily has a failure condition. Besides, the picture doesn't show the gambit failing, so even if constant success was one of the criteria, it still doesn't disqualify the picture.

IIRC, when I suggested the C&H one, my interpretation of Batman Gambit was more along the lines of what turned out to be Kansas City Shuffle, which granted is a subtrope, but I think it's better to use for a page image an example outside the subtropes. In hindsight, I would rather the Archie Sonic one be used instead. (EDIT: Though for what it's worth, I wouldn't mind much if the C&H one were instead picked.)
Speaking of which, I'm not quite convinced the second panel alone would cut it; I'd rather use the first AND second to make clearer what's going on.

Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:

Well, he thought he knew her better, and it's clearly an attempt at a Batman Gambit... I think... come to think of it maybe I should go to trope talk to get a few things cleared up.
