Okay, so I added this image to I Fell for Hours. Without any discussion, it gets replaced with this one without any discussion whatsoever.

I think that the second image is very poorly drawn and hard to decipher (at least to me, it's not readily obvious that he's looking at his watch). The first image is straight from the Trope Namer and I feel that it illustrate the trope clearly enough. What say you?

the second one is certainly a low quality image but it fits the trope better than the trope namer since, well the dude looks like he's been falling for hours. I'd suggest the Spy Kids 2 scene but if I remember correctly the sense of this trope was carried mostly by dialogue. So yes there is room for improvement.

I like the second one better for the trope, but the quality sucks.

Keep the original. It's the Trope Namer for a reason.

That was the first thing I noticed.

Being the Trope Namer does not give a benefit. I like the one where he's looking at his watch.

The watch was the first thing I noticed too. The quality on both of them is horrid in different ways, but the second one shows the trope better.

"Don't look at our crotches while we synchronize our watches!"

...Sorry, had to do it. Looks like more of you are wanting the 2nd image, so is it okay if I just put it back?

The image of Alice falling down the rabbit hole in Disney's Alice In Wonderland has gotta be the most visually iconic example. I'll see if I can find a good GIS screenshot...

Edit: Here we go, a pic of Alice looking at a grandfather clock as she falls...

Edit: The only downside is that the chair makes it look like she's about to land (she's not, the chair's in freefall too). This one might work better...

I got it immediately with the guy looking at his watch; that was the first thing I saw. The others all require some degree of familiarity with the work to know how long the fall is — in the Alice In Wonderland ones, the furniture and stuff could simply be lot of stuff falling with her, not a long time falling, and the Mario one puts the whole job on the caption.

How is the quality on the 1st comparably horrid to the quality on the 2nd? @ shimaspawn

It's blurry, pixilated, and it's hard to make out what's going on. The other just isn't the best art style.

If we need to show the length of Alice's fall, then how about this one.

I think it's because the lighting changed during the descent. I can try to photoshop away the extra Alices at... well, hopefully at some point tonight. sad

If a good Alice In Wonderland picture can be found, it would be great for this trope. Most of the ones shown so far have some sort of problem, though.

At some point, though, we have to take it on faith that the picture's not trying to trick us. This is basically a trope about motion; even with the watch one, you could say he just happened to look at his wrist right before impact. No still image will work if we assume the ground's secretly hidden right beneath the bottom edge.

We need a picture of Plucky Duck and Hampton J. Pig from Tiny Toon Adventures in that episode where they fell to the center of the earth. They get bored after a few minutes

The problem is that, if a character's doing too much while in freefall, like playing cards or rock-paper-scissors, it'll look like they're weightless and hovering instead of falling (since, physically, it amounts to the same thing). I tried my hand at the vertical Alice pic, but it's waaaay beyond my editing skills. On closer inspection, the colors are definitely just coming from each of the three light sources she's falling through. Anyway, I like it for the way the height emphasizes the bottomless descent, and how it shows her moving through different nonchalant actions each step of the way.

I did find a slightly cleaner copy..., but even though it's the Trope Codifier, I couldn't really find any other pics where it actually looks like she's endlessly and calmly falling down the rabbit hole.

Edit: As a last resort, I tried splitting the pic up into three parts like comic book panels, like this, which might look a little less confusing at least. And I've gotta run - good luck!

I figured I would leave it to others to decide which moment (in the context of the Trope Namer) would make for the best page image... but fair enough.

In any case, instead of picking one screenshot, I went with three.
