Something that just crossed my mind. Does anyone think that the harp Sheik uses in OoT is the same as the Goddess Harp?
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarWait. Aonuma did say that outright.
(facepalm)
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarWell, I did some further research, and he said that the two shared the same design.
That's not necessarily a confirmation or a denial, but I'd personally say that lends more credence to them being one in the same than not.
What do you mean, why change the instrument? They all have different functions and varying plot importance.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarWind instruments seem to be the most popular.
Ironically, the music related thingy that actually controls the wind is not a wind instrument.

Bewitching EyesWhat do mean they keep changing their instruments? And it's several hundred, if not thousands, of years between SS and OOT. They could just be harps with similar designs, maybe based off drawings of the Goddess Harp. Or the same harp, lasting those many years because it's magic.
You know, just about every game has an instrument as an item (including the Wind Waker), even if it's just minor.
The NES games and ALTTP had Flutes, OOT and MM has the Ocarinas (plus others for mask forms), OOS and OOA have the flutes that call your animal friends, OOA has the Harp of Ages, WW has the Wind Waker, MC has the Ocarina of Wind, TP has a Horse Call, ST has the Spirit Flute, and SS has the Goddess Harp. Plus LA is all about collecting the instruments to wake the Wind Fish. The only one that don't, I think, are FS, FSA, and PH.

Yeah. Bad Wolf, I don't quite see why the Goddess Harp wouldn't be enchanted in some way.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarWell, it's the obvious reason to enchant something. To keep it preserved, to keep it from breaking, and to keep it useful.
And if I recall correctly, the Goddess Harp has been around for 1000 years, so it'd either have to be enchanted or preserved in a magical spot. And the former would be more useful given that it'd be annoying for say, a string to break while Link in the middle of his journey.

Similarly, LA has a grand total of nine magical instruments.
Bewitching EyesI think we can safely assume that any sort of magic item, especially one blessed by the goddess, ages a lot better mundane objects.
Also, the whole "wind instruments" thing gave me the mental image of Link toting around a magic bassoon.
Reaction Image RepositoryThe instruments in LA were a bit strange even by series standards.
That being said, Link needs either a magic triangle or cowbell in a future game.
nah, he needs a bottle to blow into.
several, in fact.
beer bottles.
the bottles would have a double use: make music and get link shitfaced when low on health. side effects include projectile vomiting at enemies to stun them.
later on he'll get the ability to swallow projectile items to use later when he projectile vomits, making the vomit deadly :O
