At first I was annoyed, but now I'm liking the episode. Good way to get everyone to shut up about Brock before moving on to the new status quo, and the backward-moving section of the story helped indicate the impending time skip.
Still, awkward to begin a season with Mind Screw experimentation.
Hey, did anyone else end up seeing the first half of Episode 401 aired twice, instead of the full episode?
The first half aired twice on the west coast, it look like.
I watched this online (no cable), and had to watch it twice in a row to figure out what was going on. I didn't get the timeline until I saw 21 give Dr. Venture the comic. In fact, at one point, I thought I'd screwed up the web player and was just watching random scenes. But I loved it the second time through. So, big time skip, new status quo, and lots of new questions that need to be answered already, and we haven't even seen the Monarch yet. And Nazis. I love The Venture Brothers.
So I'm trying to figure out - is Hank in a Transparent Closet? He seems to be a constant subject of Ho Yay, but he almost never initiates it aside from staring at Le Teur's Batman towel.
I usually find Batman Shotacon jokes pretty played out, but it was totally worth it to hear Kevin Conroy doing them.
Agreed. If they had any other person do it, it would have fallen flat? Now? Pure Win
They took those pedophila jokes prrrrrrrretty far in the second episode. Definitely crossed the line six or seven times.
I'm also not sure if I like the Mind Screw way they played out events in the first episode. I like nonlinear, non chronological narration, but in this case I don't think it served the story at all. It spoiled some things that might have been cool surprises, and confused others. By the end of the episode I still felt like I'd missed huge chunks of what happened, and I wish some of the events were more developed.
Still, the chunks we *did* see were awesome enough that I didn't really mind the narration. Seriously, Hunter's big reveal to Brock was an amazing crazy climax to the amazing crazy over-the-top-madness that is the bread and butter of this show. Despite my little complaints, I'm loving this season. I can't wait for more.

You gotta love the Monarch dressed up as Wonder Boy and daring Captain Sunshine to f*ck him.
Although I think it's worth noting that Captain Sunshine himself never did anything explicitely pedophilic. It's implied big time, but he could very well just be a guy with severe attachment issues regarding his sidekicks.
"It takes an idiot to do cool things, that's why it's cool" - Haruhara HarukoI could've gone without knowing about Sgt. Hatred masturbating in front of the computer.

Anyway, I loved tonight's episode.
Yeah, I really liked seeing 21's ascension to badassery.
I got the impression that 21 had the potential to become an excellent villain. He just needed the right kind of motivation.
Reunite Gondwanaland!I lol'd at tonight's episode. Also, I think I'm starting to like Hank.
Also, Hatred REEEEEEAAALLLY needs to go back on his meds.

I don't think it ever had a Myth Arc...

The Philosopher-King ParadoxCan someone explain why Dean and not Rusty would be the Sovereign?
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!Perhaps the sovereign-ship goes to the youngest heir - Dean is a few minutes younger than Hank, after all.

We get a preview where 21 punches Brock Samson in the FACE, but this season has shown that where this show is concerned, we should Never Trust a Trailer...
Boo Put on a Bus!
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. That's exactly what I thought of when I saw that. TV Tropes is getting to me.
The Philosopher-King ParadoxI try to think of it more as a totally obvious Took a Level in Badass.

are you suggesting... that BROCK SAMSON... needs to take a level in badass??? Just leave.
But in all seriousness, this is a very irritating bus ride.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyHe was referring to Triana, not Brock.
That said, Brock's bus ride has allowed 21 to Take a Level in Badass, so I'm ok with it.
Personally, I thought the Nazi conversation was funnier. The episode was a bit Mind Screwy, but great nonetheless.
