Final Fantasy general

Go To

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I was just looking at Galuf's bard-sprite, and I was like: "Huh, he looks like an old hippie."

Then I realised that the description fits Kevin Flynn in Tron Legacy.

So from here on out, Jeff Bridges is the actor who will play him if there is ever a live action movie.

Also in the news, the (entirely optional) return to Lix is one of the best-designed scenes in the series. It manages to invoke such feelings of nostalgia (toward an undescribeable childhood past, not toward the game) and sadness in me that it's not even funny.

And it provides Ship Tease for Bartz/Faris, which is always a plus.

Sorry for breaking your party, man.

Hey, at least I didn't tell you to use a Dancer with Barehanded for Fist Sword Dances.

As for Brightmoon Tor: I gave my Summoner Evade Magick as a Reaction ability. She dodged all those Gold Hourglasses and was able to summon Phoenix to bring the party back.

Setzer/Terra... I don't see it, really. She thanked Setzer because, well, who was piloting the ship which caught her, again?

I switched Lenna from a Barehanded White Mage into a White Magic -casting Bard to nerf her. The game got much less boring.

I found Bards to be useful in exactly one place (Dragonvale). At least they're not as useless as the Spoony Bard himself.

Which is exactly why I didn't make her a White Magic -casting Ninja. I want her to be mediocre.

I should probably have rolled everyone three random classes with my multi-sided dice.

That might have been pretty interesting.

So i was thinking about Xenogears and it reminded me how a lot of people I knew back in he day were really annoyed at the FF franchise.

"Why is it so famous? There are tons of RP Gs more deserving of its popularity1"

Whiny fanboys or no, I can see their point. Xenogears is certainly better than any FF game I've ever played.

Anyway, the point of this little segue. Square made great RP Gs that were not Final Fantasy. Where would you rank your favorite FF titles in comparison to these games? (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, etc.)

For me, Chrono Cross equals FFIX as the best game they made (and best games, period), with the KH games kinda littered between other FF entries. Can't be bothered with a more detailed list right now, but I guess I'm just an SE fanboy.

I was never really into Cross. Even looking at it in a vacuum(i.e. ignoring Trigger).

Chrono Trigger is awesome, probably ranking somewhere among my top five FF games. The first Kingdom Hearts game (and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep) would probably fall into that area too.

I should probably play more that the first few hours of Xenogears one of these days. I was really enjoying it, but then I just got distracted from playing it. If I have time this summer I might start playing it again.

I feel like an absolute ass.

I just took a break playing FFIX, right about to the end of Disc 2. I decided to look up some stuff on the wiki while I charge my PSP. Then I discovered the existence of Chocobo Hot and Cold.

What.

The.

Fuck.

You could have sequence broken a little, but there are no rewards on the first disc which you can't get on the fourth disc.

[up][up]Well, if you did it on Disc 1, you can get early access to some items/armor that could help in some boss fights. That's about it.

SO! About to start an FFV Advance run. Should I've got Bartz, Lenna and Galuf as a Warrior, White Mage and Black Mage respectively, but should I make Faris a Blue Mage or a Thief?
