Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I love the entire cast but I did chuckle when a Redditor said the only trait the girls had was "IM SAD DADDY". LOL.
As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.I suppose it's what do you mean by Daddy/ Mommy issues?
X alot of Tidus' personality quirks are from his relationship with his Father but at the same Time Yuna is always favorably compared to her Father
8's more Teenager blues with being a War Orphan on Squall's side.
VII's while it be easy to label Seph's issues as Mommy problems its more his own need to be special and not just another Science experiment.
This is an outrage against Luminara!
I'd say Sephiroth's case isn't "I wanna be special" 'cuz he already was. He was an elite SOLDIER without peer, surpassing even Shinra's 1st Class division. It was the shock of finding out why he was special that made him snap. He even tells Zack:
"I always knew I was special, but is "this" what they meant?? Am I one of those... "things"...?!" and at that point, he started attacking the vats, which made Zack freak-out. Then Sephiroth wandered off to Hojo's Manor to find answers.
Sephiroth couldn't handle that his power came from a twisted experiment and convinced himself he was The Chosen One instead. That's why his theme song is "Those Chosen by the Planet". It's not actually true but it's what he wishes was true.
Disgusted, but not surprised"relatively speaking" Heeeeey. Good pun.
Anyway, I enjoyed 5's cast. I thought they did all have personalities. Maybe not as grand as the characters from later games, but Square was still learning.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.
x4 It was Hojo's notes that convinced him of that, because he misunderstood what Hojo meant due to his dementia. By the time Zack caught up to him in Hojo's basement, what was left of Sephiroth's mind was well and truly out of the loony bin. The guy mistakenly believed Jenova was a Cetra, the "she" was his "Mother", and that the dirty humans had killed her to steal their birthright.
What I find ironic about that is, Cloud later suffered his own trauma that made him snap and believe was someone else as well. The difference being, Cloud had the advantage of someone who knew him well enough to realize he was no longer acting himself and cared enough to eventually help set him straight.
Sephiroth had no one like that in his corner, 'cuz the only one who could've set him straight (Hojo) was a basket-case himself and was too obsessed with seeing his "Reunion Theory" come to fruition to care about Sephiroth's mental state.
With Sephiroth, there's the idea that he isn't enough and that he should be MORE when confronted with the idea that his mommy might have been a monster parasite.
So he spins this narrative in his head that he's a super special awesome Cetra whose race was betrayed by DISGUSTING HUMANS and that he has a mother that loves him unconditionally because he's the chosen one.
Then he gets his ass kicked by Cloud, a mere human, and learns that Jenova wasn't a Cetra but a monster parasite but that's okay, because now Sephiroth is a super special awesome heir to her that will become a God just like her by conquering the planet and consuming the lifestream to travel across the stars and rule over it all.
Then he loses to Cloud again, and the cycle repeats.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Its why I favor the Jenova's the actual villain and even no matter how much Sephiroth protests.. He is just a pawn in that game take of the original. ya know before SE got obsessed with sucking off the Sephiroth fanbase every couple of years and trying to make him THE villain of the entire Franchise-I'm looking at you smash-
at the end of the Day Seph's just doing what his alien instincts are telling him to do... He just needs it to be some Grandiose plan he came up with cause He can't handle the truth.
Cause it Dovetails SO neatly with Cloud's
Sephiroth needs to be special and have a Grand destiny that it drives him mad
Cloud WANTS to be special so badly... that even when he is living as his ideal Soldier self... He still fails at it.
Cloud only really starts to be the hero and overcomes Sephiroth when he stops pretending to be something he isn't and perverting Zack's memory
This is an outrage against Luminara!Personally, I like the idea Jenova is just a brainless puppet at this point, and Sephiroth is doing everything out of wounded ego.
He wants to be special, it isn't enough for him to just be SOLDIER first class and beloved war hero since it's not really fulfilling to him, and all his fantasies about being all powerful and special relate to being loved by Jenova which is a bigger symptom of him craving for love because he was raised as a weapon.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"One interesting part of going through the mainline games in order is seeing when and where the recognizable parts of the franchise pop up for the first time. Take the original version of FF1, which had no Cid, no Chocobos, and no Moogles. FF2 had a single area where Chocobos were. FF3 had some Moogles chilling with Doga, but they didn't show up at all in FF4. I still haven't seen a single Cactuar or a Tonberry yet, despite seeing a few in the spinoffs like Stranger of Paradise and The Crystal Bearers.
Cactuars and Tonberries both made their debut in 6. I'm playing through that game now, and finding those enemies does make the franchise feel more complete. They're nice to see. And not yet terrifying to come across.
At the very least, Sephiroth always has the shadows of Shinra and Jenova hanging over him, and fighting him is the ultimate culmination of the conflict with the two. I personally think that's what makes him a great antagonist for the game: he's the product of both Shinra's unchecked greed and Jenova's malice.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."So apparently today marks the 20th anniversary of Advent Children, as well as the 18th anniversary of Crisis Core. Funnily enough I experienced both of these before I actually played FF 7

GUNDAMU GUNDAMUAlso, Hedgehog Pies always seemed like kind of a memorably weird monster type that appeared in VII, IX, and Crystal Chronicles before never being used again.
