Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

It's gotten to the point where kickstarter games sometimes have a physical copy complete with box and manual as one of their rewards.
Nostalgia's a funny thing like that.
Honest question: How many of us here would actually be willing to pay extra money to get the FF VII remake in physical form complete with box and manual?
I'm guessing it'd be a non-zero answer.

Disgusted, but not surprisedHomes I bought the Persona 5 Take Your Heart edition with the box, the complementary book-bag, art book, & steel game case & then after that the Kingdom Hearts III special edition with the extra empty steel game case, little art book, & key-chain.
That is my answer.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."While it's impractical and takes up space you could be using for other things, there is something to be said for being able to look at shelves full of videogame boxes and guides.
A Steam library just doesn't feel the same.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI showed my friend the info on Final Fantasy XV's Dawn of the Future thing, and he basically described Bahamut as "Dragon Frieza". I'm still a bit displeased we don't actually get to beat him down in the game.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.Bahamut is a boss fight in the Comrades Multiplayer Expansion DLC.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWait where’s the Frieza?
Ya know it’s funny I bought Kingdom Hearts III on launch day & I still haven’t played it yet.
Been trying to finish the rest of the franchise but I’ve been slacking off on it again. I’m currently in the middle of 2.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Welp, the shishkabob happened. I'd be hurting a lot more if the part where Cloud gets possessed didn't have him hip thrusting the entire time.
It really drove him insane, I guess.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Well it is Sephiroth trying to control him.
And Sephiroth has...issues.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowBahamut in Final Fantasy XV is a vain egomaniac who wants to kill all life on Eos just because he doesn't like it being there. He selected the kings of his prophecy based on who had a similar face to his own. He decided to try and destroy Eos the first time because his subordinates being at war displeased him.
Let alone the sheer, unabashed sadism on display in Ardyn's Defy Fate ending.
The whole set up really is basically the kind of "make the hero sacrifice himself" thing a villain would spring.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.It even compares the planet to a beautiful garden of flowers from the translations Ove heard.
And the moment one flower starts to wither away Bahamut goes "Whelp. Time to burn them all!" To make way for more beautiful flowers.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Do Note that Bahamut being the Villain is bad case of the New guy taking over and trying to give players who want a happy ending an opponent they can beat and then magically makes everything fixed while ignoring the previous built up themes of Duty, Sacrifice and Burdens
or put bluntly Bahamut being Evil all along cause of course the gods are evil is a clear case of Writer Cop Out
Since a large chunk of the traits comes from the New revamped stuff

I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!I mean the new DLC was already planned in advanced before it was cancelled and then made into a novel not long afterwards. So clearly they changed their minds going into it before that point.
Though Ardyns DLC does fit close enough that alone it can fit into the main story fine(and in Japanese when talking about Ardyn in the main story Bahamut had already proved he was already a dick concerning him).
Also the Gods aren't evil. Just the one. The rest are either good, neutral, or jerks.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Bahamut was already not exactly sympathetic - Episode Ardyn really demonstrated this very well - and his reason for chucking Ardyn to the side for Somnus was never going to be a very good reason, let alone what Somnus did to Ardyn's wife.
There should never have been any sacrifices or burdens needed to satiate Dragon Frieza - that becomes more clear the more we learn about him.
I kind of see it the same as what happened with Final Fantasy X - a game that still astonishes me with how openly antitheistic and anti-establishment it is. The Summoners in that game were basically bound by duty and honor to do their sacrificial maneuver to annul Sin for a while, only for it to inevitably return. The game rightly shows this as utter bullcrap and the party seeks out another way and destroys Sin outright instead of just following duty and honor.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.Eh, religion is something that's pretty easy to rip into.
Real Life has shown that time and again, and fiction has just reflected that.
Not surprised the game would take that bent considering how often JRPG's have used the Corrupt Church / Religion of Evil / Path of Inspiration plot.
One Strip! One Strip! However, in XII the religious establishment at Bur-Omisace is portrayed sympathetically.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.That's cool.
Always like seeing portrayals of Saintly Church when it happens (though they are usually less plot important in that case).
One Strip! One Strip!Trails is the only series that comes to mind with a plot-important good church that isn't evil. The third game even has a priest and a nun as protagonists.
"No will to break."Too bad the Gods themselves are pricks!
In XII! I meant XII

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Eh. That's also not always a thing.
That being said, similar to churches being corrupt, gods who if not evil are both good and competent also seem rare in fiction, possibly because if they were, the plot would be solved much quicker.
One Strip! One Strip!I know I've seen the "church is evil but the deity they worship isn't" thing done once or twice.

Jesus can relate.
Religion is an incredibly important facet of human history and identity so I argue that it cant really be "done to death" but the same plot can.
Bleye knows Sabers.A lot of times, when a good church is plot-relevant, it's treated less like a religion or philosophy and more like a power source for our monster-hunting heroes.
There were few things kid me loved more than opening the case and reading those manuals on the way home from the game store to get ready for actually starting the game. They even had that lovely new book smell!
