Final Fantasy general

Go To

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

[up][up]It's entirely too much arbitrary bullshit. I read the line about how there are two different unique monsters at the end of the final dungeon and you can only get them one at a time and said "fuck that."

It's nothing more than guide-wank, even more than some of the other Fragments. I was sick of not being able to just play the game and always having to consult a FAQ.

[up] He was kind of dying in AC.

I think Kingdom Hearts fucked him over worse.

But yes, no Cloud except VII Cloud has ever been as interesting of a character. I am interested to see what the remake does with him.

[up][up] That's what people thought he was before AC, they completely forgot all the character development he had in disk 2 and 3.

SE just pandered to that.

[up] The game itself throws hints at you but that specific one was pretty bad yeah, although really easy to spawn once you know it.

EDIT: [up] He was good in Crisis Core, everyone was actually consistent with what they were supposed to be shockingly enough.

That's what people thought he was before AC, they completely forgot all the character development he had from early disk 1, after the first two missions, onward.

Fixed that for you. No, I'm not butthurt about it, why are you asking.

Cloud was more interesting when he was a flawed and broken protagonist trying to move forward in spite of his faults instead of a guy who just chops buildings in half because he's the baddest mutha around.

But he can be both, that's the problem. Square won't let him be both trying to move past his flaws while also chopping buildings in half. tongue

Kingdom Hearts barely does anyone any favors unless it's an OC or Mickey Mouse. Remember Squall using the computer in KH 2 and teaching Sora about it? That was some top shrlf cringe.

Because of that, I don't mind KH!Cloud. Oh no, his sword is covered in bandages and he's all broody. W/E, he's fun to fight and he gives out one of the best keyblades in the game. He was alright in the first game.

I'm also impartial to Advent Children Cloud regardless of how different it is to his game counterpart, because Advent Children Complete was a pretty cool movie and I really liked it. I don't get the conplaints about the costume either.

I'm pretty sure dying of a disease tends to make people more emotional, not less. I'm just really not a fan of Flanderization in general, especially when it takes away the best parts about a character and turns them completely bland, like it did with Cloud.

Also, remake Cloud better say stuff like "Alright everyone, let's mosey" and "You look like a bear wearing a marshmallow."

It wasn't just Cloud dying, it was that little twerp too. Cloud was basically shutting himself off from his guilt and emotions, which is actually a Cloud thing to do.

And I really liked Cloud's new outfit. If nothing else, everyone was very pretty in AC. Especially Kadaj.

Honestly, it'd be my favorite of his outfits if they got rid of the silly leg cape thing. It's otherwise a very natural modern take on his original outfit.

I definitely agree. It's so sad that so many people's first impression of Cloud was tainted by the grotesque cartboard cutout that took his place in Advent Children.
I like AC Cloud. Speaking as someone who has, is, and probably always will struggled with depression, I can sympathize.

Kingdom Hearts did him the worst disservice.

-everybody dissing Kingdom Hearts all of a sudden-

This was the only interaction these two characters had back then, before Dissidia was even thought of - and besides the opening, I don't think they had a single scene together in Dissidia.

It certainly is one of the few times post-AC Cloud's had any particularly strong bout of confidence. I miss this side of Cloud. tongue

On the topic of cloud - I really really prefer his KH 1 look. I prefer his original game post character development self.

On the topic of FFIX - I'm the only villain with character development(in one game).

I wouldn't call it a stand still neither like what most FF villains tend to do that's if they even have character development at all.

If we count the Nibelheim Flashback, Sephiroth underwent character development.

But yes, Kuja is the best FF villain.
