Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

#37519 #37521 #37525 Thanks for your inputs on Zidane. I might actually have to revisit the game since I may be wrong about him. Though I will still have to Virus him at some point to help the other party members catch up in levels.
#37519 I didn't realize that Steiner being a sucky leader is actually lampshaded. Now I am super amused. I thought his knights being a ragtag bunch of misfits was just a play on how guys are more disorganized than girls (read: Beatrix's group). Apparently it is really all Steiner's fault.

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!![]()
The Pluto Knights step up a lot during the invasion of Alexandria under Garnet's orders.
And I don't think it's so much that Steiner is a bumbling leader, per se. It's just that part of Steiner's flaw is that he's really overly competitive with Beatrix instead of working together with her for a common goal, so he tries TOO hard to be competent and... well.
Well "Pluto Knights are great under Garnet's orders" just makes Steiner look even worse.
I guess I'll subscribe to the "middleman" theory, that probably works. And it can explain why Steiner is still in that job in the end.

Seriously? Out of everyone, or just the main protagonists?
Compared to Cloud and Squall, Zidane was a lot more fun. He had a tail! And compared to Tidus and Lightning after him, more competent than the former and more emotive than the latter.
I shouldn't mention Ramza but god was he droll.
Cecil?
Bartz?

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!It sounds just as amazing as when I first heard it on Cloud's trailer. It finally gets a more proper remix!
I really hate the word limit, it's really counterintuitive to making a proper review. Like I understand that it's to keep someone from writing a 200 word review with 800 useless fluff words, or simply spamming garbage for lulz, but I had to trim some serious fat to get as much content as I did into the review.
I wanted to talk about how much Lightning surprised me after hearing some serious backlash about her early behavior, but I had to settle for a passive aggressive "Spoiler: she gets over it" instead. I also wanted to outline my expectations going in, to see if I could like it out of spite for those who don't, but it had to go.
I really did like the game, but 60 hours of constant FFXIII was too much. The game isn't bad, but it is very flawed and very tedious. Not even the side quests are fun, because there aren't nearly enough to justify the amount of time spent going through the game to get to Pulse in the first place.
The review is my opinion in a condensed form. And with that, I'm leaving XIII behind.
...In other news, I'm buying a copy of XIII-2 soon. Along with a new PS 3 controller, the budget corded one I have now has an R1 button that keeps sticking. The new one is a budget one as well, but it's wireless, almost indistinguishable from the real thing apparently (no sixaxis tho) and only $20. Compared to $45 for a used Dualshock 3. Why are first party controllers always so stupidly expensive?
If it wernt so easy to get overleveled I would agree. There are even minigames like Chocobo Racing, Slots and monster collecting. Hidden treasures, interactive world elements, optional collecting for a secret ending, etc are all there.
The story is not as good and less focused than XIII though.
Its like the stuff XIII did wrong XIII-2 got right and the things XIII did right XIII-2 did wrong.
The DLC fights are actually some of the most fun and creative fights in any FF game though.

First party controllers have a lot more stuff built in, even a wireless third party controller will only be wireless through a USB device you have to plug in. No Sixaxis can absolutely screw you on some games, like say any of the PS 3 Ratchet games, not the XIII trilogy though.

Tell me about it, I got up to one of the last boss fights in MGS 4 and had to stop there because I needed Sixaxis to beat it.
Same deal with Killzone 2, except it had the courtesy of screwing me before finishing the first level. As opposed to 80% through the game, I was a lot happier being shut out that early.
I was dismayed when I got a copy of Final Fantasy VII and found that it wouldn't work with a PS 2 memory card (I bought the PS 1 card later). You can play the disc in a PS 2 and use a PS 2 controller, but a PS 2 memory card is simply out of the question. Is there any particular reason for this?
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Different format for memory cards. PS 1 memory cards use a block system while PS 2 uses the now standard KB system.
While you can copy from a PS 1 card to a PS 2 for transfer purposes, which was required for Suikoden 3 save transer, the pS1 games are not designed to read a PS 2 card.

I agree with all of this, really.
Although Mr Mallard, "Secret Ending' makes it sound better than it is. I really would not bother trying to get the secret ending in XIII-2. I loved the game and even I couldn't stomach getting the last Fragment. Fucking beastiary bullshit.
XIII-2 has a lot of cool, optional content but like X-2, a lot of it sucks. XIII-2 was a very experimental title where they threw QTE's, dialogue options. puzzles, alternate endings and a ton more shit at a wall to see what would stick.

Eh Monster hunting for the beastary and use em in combat was one of the best parts of the game, the fragment was easy since I hunted everything but the Cie'th anyway.
The only really hard fragment was the 777 one in slots, which I got lucky on it only took me about 10 minutes to get it.

A passive ability that lets her infinitely Summon Eidolons if you never let her take another turn after Summoning, admittedly.
That would be useful, but Scan and Game FA Qs are already things.
