Sticky plz.
Alas, this is not a game.
Following the events of [REDACTED], we should probably get some rules in this place. Not hard-and-fast, you-will-obey, on-pain-of-death rules, of course; more a sort of guideline for how to keep things fun and entertaining for all involved. Obviously, FG is all about fun, but these rules are intended to make sure it stays that way.
- Try to stay vaguely on topic. You can be flexible; sometimes the rules need changing, and OPs, there's no point in trying to make Tropers play a game they don't want to. But if the game is "let's pretend to be kittens", don't derail into "let's pretend to be robot samurai". Remember, anyone can make a thread here, so if you don't see a game that interests you, make your own thread for that. You don't need to ruin other people's games.
- On that note, please don't turn every thread into a free-for-all fight. There is a thread
for that. More generally, you don't need to derail every thread into a roleplaying game. As it happens, we have an entire subforum for if you want to roleplay.
- If you are supposed to be roleplaying, please refrain from godmodding. It's not funny, it's not fair, and it disrupts the game. That means no playing unbeatable characters. Be especially careful when killing other people's characters. Give them a fair chance; rather than writing "*shoots That Troper's head off*", consider "*fires gun at That Troper's face*". The line between Godmodding and regular fighting can be somewhat nebulous, so please exercise your common sense and personal judgement.
- Be wary of conversational derails. They're a fact of life on these forums, but try not to go overboard, or you may find there isn't a game left.
- Take your drama someplace else. FG isn't the place for that shit. We're here to have fun, not start a Flame War.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game: Remember that forum games are a collaborative project, not a competition. Please do not write your posts with the intention of trying to one up other people by making it hard for them to build upon your post in a constructive way.
- No sex or fetish games. Let's keep this vaguely family friendly.
- Please bump responsibly. Due to the amount of games played every day, it's normal for a thread to be knocked off of the first page within hours. With that in mind, regulars will wait several days or a few weeks before bumping. Please use the same amount of courtesy. Threads that are time-sensitive (such as YIAY
) do allow a bit of leeway regarding this rule, in case the user presenting the prompt needs to be pinged or if there are not enough responses after time has passed.
- Above all, have fun! This being Forum Games, that's what we all want, right? These rules are not intended to oppress anyone, but rather as a gentle reminder of how to avoid that dreaded Internet Backdraft. That way, we can all enjoy ourselves. ^_^
EDIT:
- The avatar minimum and the keep sockpuppeting to a minimum rule have been removed from the rule list.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game rule has been added to the rules list
- Added "no sex or fetish games" rule.
- Added a rule regarding thread bumping.

And when playing these games, how do I put other people's avatars on my post?
Thanks!

Rock'n'roll never dies!See those three dots that are by the timestamp on every forum post? "Avatar Gallery" should be one of the options, and when you click on that, you can see all of a person's avatars. From there, it's just a matter of copying the image link to an avatar you find there, and pasting to your post.
and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised.I didn't want to have to say this but ~Pikafan, some of your game contributions are starting to become a little stale. Now, I'm not here to ask you to stop referencing things like Pokemon and PJ Masks because that wouldn't be fair; you have works you're passionate about and we all understand that.
But please, can you try and be a little more creative in some games beyond "500 pokemon all beat up X" or "my avatar plus other random pokemon totally beat your avatar"? The point of these games is to try and think creatively about the situations you're given and to provide punchlines. But constantly having our avatars killed by aeroblast and blue-flare, or with more characters than actually exist in your avatar, or similar, is a little tiring. I'm just asking you try and break out of your comfort zone and to not lean on the same franchises and responses for every answer you provide.
I hope this doesn't come off as harsh; it's not my intention. But I felt I needed to get it off my chest, because the games aren't as interesting when we all know what the answer will be.

I'll try.

Thank you. S'all I ask.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAfter some recent incidents involving a certain troper, we would to remind you to refrain from godmodding. It's not funny, it's not fair, it's just annoying.
Yes, godmodding will get you nowhere, and if you continually do it, nobody will take you seriously and you will be denied from most games. Please don't do it, especially for games that are roleplays.
Do or do not, there is no try.

"I'm Mary Poppins, Y'all!" - Yondu,2017Right, I hate going on those "Will your avatar survive this" threads and being told my character is being attacked by, idk, the entire Greek Pantheon plus Darkseid for good measure. It's just not fun to have no ability to win at anything, especially if your characters aren't extremely powerful.
Oh, and can we please try not to jack up the power-scale in the "Send Out An Avatar..." thread to quickly? I feel like it can go from "normal human with gun" to "literal gods" in like a second flat, as well as the fact that it's always the same characters being used every time. Not very interesting if we don't get any variety in the battles.

I've been guilty of that and I am sorry for it.
But yeah, I agree, the game's not about absolutely stomping whoever comes next into dirt. It's fine if you like sending powerful things, but people need to dial back down on the unnecessary escalations
Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, ngl
To GoosefromWikipedia, Dookie Idiot Nimrod & Purple Eyed Guma, I will stop Godmodding
To War Jay 77 I will try to stop referencing both Pokémon and PJ Masks. However I do not have very many avatars
to choose from currently, so please bear with me.

I'm not sure you were the troper they were discussing, but I do appreciate your effort. Don't stress over it; collect avatars naturally like we all do.
Edit: Oh, my bad. I don't play those games so I just thought you guys were talking about the dude with the TOAA avatar, as I saw issues pop up with them recently. Well, good to know I guess.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallJay, they are indeed talking about pikafan, who had both godmodded in A Game of Mafia and Step 1. I appreciate your efforts to not godmod, but please keep your promise.

...Seriously though, people keep cranking up the power scale in the "Fight the Above Avatar" thread and it's getting frustrating. We either end up in a loop of using the exact same characters (often devolving into Pokemon battles), or it just goes from "puppies fighting" to "literal gods".
I saw people suggest we scrap the thread and restart with a better-explained set of rules, and that might be a good idea, as the power-scale jacking doesn't only come off as unfair at times, it also forces us to be uncreative with the characters we send out. It's not fun if the only possible option is to send out your strongest avatar or to reset the scale.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYeah, I’m planning on making a reboot with more clearer rules since OP is long gone from the site.
Maybe we can make our attacks more creative other than "X burns Y to a crisp."

"I'm Mary Poppins, Y'all!" - Yondu,2017I'm in support of a rebooted thread.
Also, this might just be me, but I do find it kinda annoying when people make edits to their posts in that thread saying "no actually this is why my avatar would win anyways"
and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised. The main thing we need to decide is what constitutes power jacking, vs. a natural increase in power. I consider it to be Power Jacking when the fight is obviously on the low-end of the power scale and suddenly becomes a lot tougher; meanwhile, sending out progressively more difficult opponents is expected, though I'd like to see a thread that prioritizes creative battles and the like more than "well, my mech is stronger than your pokemon", though I don't think that could ever be enforced- it's just a thing we should strive for rather than anything we can make a rule about.
As for
, I agree, it's kind of frustrating. Plus, the point isn't even to defeat the above avatar necessarily, just send an avatar to battle them. Nobody says the avatar you choose has to be stronger than the one above it; in fact, this mentality seems to contribute to power-jacking, as people want to win the battle.
Now I'm not trying to start a fight with anybody, but some of us just can't keep it fresh in the "Fight the Above Avatar" thread when we don't have very many avatars in our avatar galleries. Like both me (37) and
War Jay 77 (64) for instance.

I mean, I only have two pages, and I manage. It gets repetitive at times, but if I can't think of anything good I just wait it out.
The real issue is jumping from "literal cat fight" to "here's a dragon". I'm sure there were things in your gallery far lower on the power-scale that could've taken Elon, which is why I pointed out that your response was overkill.
It's less about keeping it fresh and more about keeping it appropriate while still being creative when possible.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIt's for the best. So I'm going to quit anything kind of game that's not guessing games or has to do with avatars, due to being called out for Godmodding.
Edited by pikafan on Oct 18th 2020 at 9:18:44 AM
~pikafan, regarding your most recent post in this thread relating to avatars, I checked your avatar gallery and your statement doesn't hold up well - You say there's not much to go with, yet at least half your avatars are not Pokemon-related in any way. So why'd you say that you have a little to go with when you have at least half your gallery to work with?
Hi, hello. We have issues with what you did hours ago on Roleplay.Get That Pizza.
What gave you the idea, the right to vandalize the page like that? Florien Had to work hard to undo your vandalism. Why the hell would you even do that in the first place? Awe921 is not happy about it, he is angry at you and doesn't want you to participate in his roleplay game anymore.

If you want to join an avatar game, have at least a row of avatar please.
