Sticky plz.
Alas, this is not a game.
Following the events of [REDACTED], we should probably get some rules in this place. Not hard-and-fast, you-will-obey, on-pain-of-death rules, of course; more a sort of guideline for how to keep things fun and entertaining for all involved. Obviously, FG is all about fun, but these rules are intended to make sure it stays that way.
- Try to stay vaguely on topic. You can be flexible; sometimes the rules need changing, and OPs, there's no point in trying to make Tropers play a game they don't want to. But if the game is "let's pretend to be kittens", don't derail into "let's pretend to be robot samurai". Remember, anyone can make a thread here, so if you don't see a game that interests you, make your own thread for that. You don't need to ruin other people's games.
- On that note, please don't turn every thread into a free-for-all fight. There is a thread
for that. More generally, you don't need to derail every thread into a roleplaying game. As it happens, we have an entire subforum for if you want to roleplay.
- If you are supposed to be roleplaying, please refrain from godmodding. It's not funny, it's not fair, and it disrupts the game. That means no playing unbeatable characters. Be especially careful when killing other people's characters. Give them a fair chance; rather than writing "*shoots That Troper's head off*", consider "*fires gun at That Troper's face*". The line between Godmodding and regular fighting can be somewhat nebulous, so please exercise your common sense and personal judgement.
- Be wary of conversational derails. They're a fact of life on these forums, but try not to go overboard, or you may find there isn't a game left.
- Take your drama someplace else. FG isn't the place for that shit. We're here to have fun, not start a Flame War.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game: Remember that forum games are a collaborative project, not a competition. Please do not write your posts with the intention of trying to one up other people by making it hard for them to build upon your post in a constructive way.
- No sex or fetish games. Let's keep this vaguely family friendly.
- Please bump responsibly. Due to the amount of games played every day, it's normal for a thread to be knocked off of the first page within hours. With that in mind, regulars will wait several days or a few weeks before bumping. Please use the same amount of courtesy. Threads that are time-sensitive (such as YIAY
) do allow a bit of leeway regarding this rule, in case the user presenting the prompt needs to be pinged or if there are not enough responses after time has passed.
- Above all, have fun! This being Forum Games, that's what we all want, right? These rules are not intended to oppress anyone, but rather as a gentle reminder of how to avoid that dreaded Internet Backdraft. That way, we can all enjoy ourselves. ^_^
EDIT:
- The avatar minimum and the keep sockpuppeting to a minimum rule have been removed from the rule list.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game rule has been added to the rules list
- Added "no sex or fetish games" rule.
- Added a rule regarding thread bumping.

It's one thing if the thread is questionable; if you ask me, they should change the structure a little so it doesn't come off too risqué.
It's another if you keep trying to report thread after thread for slights.
And to add to that, that thing is worse when there aren't any slights. When you just make something out of nothing. That's the main thing about it
For that thread, I agree it feels a bit questionable by today's standards but if no one goes into graphic detail... I guess it's fine? Especially with some other threads that were kept
My favorite failed console tbhI have a feeling that this thread
has pretty much devolved into "this avatar will do a better job than what's currently going on" which not only goes against the "no politics" rule, it goes against the entire point of the thread which was originally to state what their first proclamation would be, not how good of a president they'd be. Just my opinion.

"Every time I look, they all seem to multiply / The scΛrƨ that run my mind"Honestly it seems like people had a hard time following the rules since the first page
I’m not sure if we should immediately lock it though.
It builds character.I don't think it needs a lock, just a small rerail back to the original concept.
"Every time I look, they all seem to multiply / The scΛrƨ that run my mind"I saw I was one of the first commentators.
Yeah, you can post in an attempt to course-correct the game and see how that goes.
I got spurs, that jingle-jangle-jingle!So, we've had some complaints about Sandwich Posting, even though there's no specific rule against it.
How does everyone feel about that being added?
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerI could’ve sworn there was a rule about it in The Forum Rules, but no.

Always open to sharing avatars and chatting. Can message me for either. (He/Him) Currently watching: BTAS
I think it should be more of a 'highly recommended' thing than an actual hard rule. It depends from thread to thread. Like the only thread I could think of where sandwich posting is bad is the Count to 100(You're more prone to getting ninja'd if you do that) or the Order vs Chaos thread(Disrupts the other side).
I don't think we need that rule applied on RPs or ITTs threads though.

Protection and power are overrated. I think you are very wise to choose happiness and love. Current avatar: ConnieThe thing about sandwich posting is other than the threads mentioned above
, it's mainly an issue in threads where you respond to the above post/user/avatar in some way, because that makes it so no one gets a chance to reply to anyone else. In RP/ITT it's less of an issue since the above post is not necessarily what you're replying to. Anyway, might as well have a rule for those threads (of course, occasional accidental sandwiching might happen, it's mainly an issue when someone repeatedly and consistently does it)

My favorite failed console tbhAgree with ![]()
; I'd rather have it as a recommendation than a hard rule, especially since it can easily happen by accident. It's not too big of a deal most of the time.

Currently playing Yooka-ReplayleeI'm in agreement, yeah.
"Can you even read the blackboard written clear as can be?" / "Can you even read his mind? See that kid's lost fantasy?"Like some opinions, this is another Elim Game discussion. Nothing bad, but I was curious about something. I remember Farmboy did the round on Fictional Clergy and it went fine despite some initial concerns. Now I've wondered if it's possible if a Fictional Politicians round can be done. I know the rules say to stay away from political stuff, but I've wondered if it can be done if we tread lightly. For one, I wouldn't allow fictionalized versions of RL politicians as well as ones that serve as Take That! to RL ones. But there are those who are reasonable as well as corrupt ones that just serve as characters without tying into real world issues. I do think it can work as long as we take precautions.
For the record, it's not the next round I plan on hosting, just down the line
I agree with keeping IRL or Fictionalized versions taboo and go with fictitious figureheads.
I got spurs, that jingle-jangle-jingle!Lucas’ post here
about “What is the above troper known for” raises a good point. Both threads seem to be active and are the same (I think one was intended to be a reboot due to low activity at the time), so should we do anything?

It builds character.I don't see a reason to have two identical threads, so maybe the newer one could be hollered to be locked?
Currently playing Yooka-ReplayleeMight be the right thing to do. That’s the protocol for duplicate threads, right?
It builds character.Sorry for the double post, but uh, how does one holler a thread to be locked?
I thought that was for posts.

It builds character.
Through the holler post button on the three dots. (I think?)
![]()
You holler the first post on a thread then you state the reason why do you want it to be locked.
Indonesia Raya is sandwich-posting non-stop, so I left them a reminder during a round on Tropefy the Above Image.
Unfortunately, they fell right back off again.
I have had a talk to them through PM’s actually
If they continue even after I explained why sandwich posting is frowned upon, what do we do?

...that being said, yes, the thread has always been... questionable to me. but i didn't necessarily think anything of it if people were still participating in it.
Welcome, my little friend! Or should I say...friends?
