It's a shame, cause I really liked how it is currently, but I get the need to change.
to merging (with upgrade); I think it's a good illustration of the trope.
I will say that I do kind of really love the split on the image. I think it makes the gag land so much more. (For context, in the original comic, there's two columns of them making pensive faces before it's revealed they are playing chess, to punctuate the gag)
That said if we're dead set on it, I'm up for a merge.

(Still a shame to lose the split, though. Totally agree with #5

There's too many men, too many people, making too many problemsWe are allowed to keep the split image under special circumstances. Thread consensus can overwrite any rule, and it looks like in this case everyone prefers it being split. Disguised Horror Story is the same way, as was kept like that by thread.
Yeah we also have the occasional "breaks the rules but we'll allow it in this circumstance" like Punched Across the Room too. I'm sure it's just a matter of codifying agreement to it in a thread (so this one in this case) and then it would be mentioned in the tag.
Chekhov's Gun is another one. I'm fine with the labelnote setup here.
Didn't know we can do that. I know Creepy Changing Painting also has some shenanigans with the image, but I thought that was the only page that did that. I'm fine with the labelnote being kept, then.

I brought this up in the IP discussion thread,
but basically, the image on this page is split into two pieces for some reason with one hidden behind a note, which we're not allowed to do, and is too small. I'd be fine with merging them if we can get a higher quality version of it.
