I Know What You Did Midsommar

Landon Hook stepped off the bus, his backpack slung over one shoulder as he surveyed the quaint Swedish village before him. The midsummer sun hung low on the horizon, casting long shadows across the cobblestone streets. He had come here seeking adventure, but something in the air made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.

His friends - Sarah, Mike, and Emily - joined him, their excited chatter filling the air. Sarah, in particular, seemed enthralled by the colorful banners and flower garlands adorning the village square. Her camera clicked incessantly as she documented every detail of their surroundings.

"Welcome to the Festival of Eternal Light," a villager greeted them, her smile a touch too wide. "You're just in time for the Blessing of the Sun. Make sure to wear your ceremonial crowns for the ritual at midnight."

As the group settled into their quaint cottage, Landon couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. The villagers' smiles never quite reached their eyes, and hushed whispers seemed to follow them wherever they went.

That night, as the festival began in earnest, Landon noticed an elderly man watching their group intently from the shadows. The man's piercing gaze seemed to hold secrets, his presence a silent promise of things yet to unfold.

Days passed, filled with feasts, dances, and strange rituals that grew increasingly unsettling. As the midnight sun bathed the village in an otherworldly glow, casting long shadows and painting everything in hues of amber and crimson, Landon felt as though they had stepped into another world entirely.

It was on the third night that things took a dark turn. Mike disappeared during the nightly bonfire, only to return hours later with no memory of where he'd been. Emily began speaking in a language none of them recognized, her eyes glazed over as if in a trance.

As Landon delved deeper into the village's history, he encountered mentions of a figure known only as "The Watcher" - a being said to oversee the festival, ensuring the ancient rites were properly observed. No one seemed to know who or what The Watcher was, only that its judgment was final and its presence was felt by all.

With growing horror, Landon realized the true nature of the Festival of Eternal Light. The village's isolation and the peculiar astronomical phenomena of the midnight sun had allowed an ancient cult to survive here for centuries, hidden from the outside world. Their rituals, seemingly quaint folk traditions to outsiders, were in fact carefully designed to gradually indoctrinate and prepare unwitting visitors for a terrible fate.

As the final night of the festival approached, Landon knew he had to act. With Sarah's help, he formulated a plan to escape the village and alert the authorities. But as they made their move, they found themselves face to face with the enigmatic Watcher, its true form hidden beneath layers of floral garlands and ancient symbols.

In that moment, as the midnight sun blazed overhead and the villagers' chants reached a fevered pitch, Landon realized that the nightmare was far from over. The true test of survival was only just beginning.
