I should add that the gameboy cover (the current pic) looks absolutely nothing like the game (indeed, it's listed on the page as Covers Always Lie); whereas the original cover (the suggestion here) does feature items and enemies from the game.

The image is the cover from the 2000 Gameboy release. However, the game was released nine years earlier for DOS, and a year before that under a different title (Moktar).
I suggest showing either the most well-known box art (the DOS version), or the earliest one (Moktar) or a collage of both, since it's pretty rare for a video game to be released twice with different protagonists.
ETA: I'd prefer the collage, because it's so obviously the same image with the main character switched out, and that's basically what happened to the game as well.
