Guess the Plant

Go To

Couldn't find this searching the backlog; any botany loving tropers around?

Rules:
  • Similar to other "Guess the ____" games on the forum, one player thinks of a plant, gives a clue, then answers questions to narrow down what it might be until a player guesses correctly, then starts a new round with a new plant
  • Guidelines for choosing plants:
    • Must be a real plant that exists or existed on planet Earth (extinct and extant species are both allowed)
    • Please choose a specific species rather than an entire genus
    • Anything under the taxonomic Kingdom of Plantae is allowed (this includes, but is not limited to: moss, trees, ferns, succulents, vines, weeds, grass, flowers, etc)
    • Animalia and Fungi are separate taxonomic Kingdoms, and therefore not allowed (there is also an active Guess the Animal game already; if someone else wants to make Guess the Mushroom, go for it)
    • For the sake of simplicity, all species of photosynthetic macroalgae are allowed (some are generally considered plants, some aren't, but I don't feel like sorting through them all)
    • Lichens are considered Fungi, and therefore not allowed
  • Three questions per post are allowed, though they should be logical follow-ups of each other (only one GUESS per post, though)
  • When announcing a winner, please include the number of the round, the common name of the plant (if there is one), and the scientific name.

Edible variety?

I suppose, by the transitive property, I too must be "Vulcan as a Motherfucker."[1]

Round 4: Peanut (Arachis hypogaea)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5863_7.jpeg

Despite my name and the fact that I have a shell, I am not a nut. I am a legume, and I'm not born from a fruit. We're separated by our orders, with nuts being Fagales, and me being Fabales.

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.

Oh wow... I didn't expect the answer to be so simple...

Round 5!

Your initial clue is: "I seem to have a trait from a clade that I'm not even part of."

Added clues:

  • I am not an angiosperm.
  • I am a vascular plant.
  • I am a seed plant.
  • I am a conifer.
  • I am likely not a pinid.
  • I am not a pine (genus Pinus).
  • I am in Cupressidae.
  • I am not a redwood (Sequoioideae).
  • The OP doesn't know if I shed my needles.

I'll ask the same question a bit differently: is it a Pine tree of some kind?
