the "sentient animals" thing is actually more harder than most depictions of aliens (barring proof that convergent evolution occurred to that specific end like the homo sapiens equivalent of canonization) so right now it and hard space travel seems to go hand in hand.
That said I do think its going to cause ludonarrative problems or procedural generation issues unless inter system travel is locked by story beats (with a simulation filling the gap for grinding purposes).

If I'm reading the website correctly, the Celestials are actually a divergent evolution of humanity. I actually really like that, although I'm having trouble parsing what the blurb is trying to say about their origin - did they leave Earth first on older Ark ships that later humans were able to outpace on the way to the Centauri cluster, or were the Celestials the first to arrive?
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyHuh apparently its based on a book The Archimedes Engine? Or rather same universe as that book. Edit: Ah no its just case of them already having released book featuring game's universe huh. One way to build up hype I suppose and not too far off from what Bioware did with ME and DA tie in books
(apparently there are multiple different Celestial species the original colonists splintered into)
oh hey here is very grisly example

...so then Rubber-Forehead Alien actually makes a lot of sense then huh
And apparently Matthew McConaughey is one of the cast members

The gameplay reminds me of ME: Andromeda: third-person shooting, speedy movement through the environment, elemental abilities affecting targets, and something resembling biotic powers. Big difference between this and other games though is how FTL time dilation is unavoidable when traveling through space; this means your progression from one system to another will involving more than a decade passing for everyone else in the galaxy, but for you it'll just be a few days. Dunno how that's going to affect visiting the same planet repeatedly though. The sentient animals thing is surprising, it almost gives the game a science-fantasy vibe despite the setting having somewhat hard rules about space travel.
We don't have a release date, unfortunately, only a speculative one sometime in early 2026.
