Younger gamers, what do you think of retro games?

I'm interested, for better or worse, if you're under the age of, say, 25, what do you think of retro games?

I happened to find a forum thread where people who didn't grow up with such games said they tried them out, including ones that are considered classics by the generation that grew up with them (such as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Final Fantasy VII).

Their views were mostly negative. Primarily, their complaints were about quality of life. They also felt that modern games had evolved a lot since then. Two people said that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past felt directionless and unfulfilling, and one said that they not only didn't find Final Fantasy VII fun, but they also didn't care for its story and characters, which to the game's fans, are its biggest draw.

One person pointed out that classics are the games that were better than their peers at the time, but since their peers didn't age well, the classics aged only slightly better.

(One person did say that Super Mario Bros. 3 had nice tight controls, while Super Mario World, which came later, felt slippery and "off" by comparison.)

This isn't a complaining thread. If you have a mixture of negative and positive thoughts, or overwhelmingly negative or positive, I'd be interested in knowing what you think and why.
