Also, there being a lot of complaining doesn't justify its existence. It just means the complaining needs cleaning up.
Though I'll note that jandn is right, and complaining was indeed not the primary issue here. I only included the folder because, when I brought up doing the wick check again a while back, I was told to include it — and quite frankly, given the recent thread for The Problem with Licensed Games, I'm clearly no good at identifying TRS-able complaining in wick checks.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI stand by my support for Definition-Only.
Given that a straight-up cut or disambig is no longer possible on account of the high inbounds, I wonder if a crowner might be a good idea? Although I can't gather options right now as I'm about to go to sleep.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallTBF, "complaining" has always been a TRS concern I've been skeptical about since 9/10 times there's nothing we can realistically do besides clean it up, and it's really hard to demonstrate objectively.
I have no idea what we can do here, though.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAre there any further definition restrictions that can be made?

Is Definition-Only still an option, or has that been ruled out? Haven't been following this too closely so I'm not sure.
If the admins won't let definition-only slide, Just for Fun may be a possible alternative.
JFF wouldn't be horrible. Def-Only is also fine with me but would definitely be a more substantial change.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallSorry to double post, but I figured I'd just page the admins just in case.
~Kory Would the admins be alright with Definition-Only or JFF here?
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallSure, but if people think it's fun to point them out... there's no harm in shunting those to JFF and then moving other stuff to the suggested tropes.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThis sounds to me like Just for Fun is being used as a dumping ground again. I don't think that these examples are particularly likely to be funny. Still favour definition-only.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah, I'm not seeing it as a "just dump it in JFF" case. People seem to be having fun with these examples and JFF has less rules so people can just go wild and point out whatever they want to.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallJust For Fun gets my vote because clearly a lot of people do enjoy it. And that imo is a justification for its existence in and of itself.
The fact is, if this website was just a catalogue of tropes then it would have withered and died a long time ago. "Fun" is the secret sauce that keeps the wheels turning.
Incidentally, I do not agree with this being a YMMV trope anyway. It either is dated or it isn't dated. There really should not be much cause for discussion there.
It was made YMMV because of the "unintentional" bit. Tropes shouldn't be accidental, and whether or not something is so dated as to be a period piece is subjective.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper Wall
Crown Description:
Unintentional Period Piece has long been heavily misused, frequently attracting examples that list literally every single dated thing in a work. This crowner will determine how best to fix this item.

Well that's what I'm referring to. It's more nitpicking than straight up bashing but it is still complaining.
