i do agree that a waiting period would help curb knee-jerk reactions and in particular the desire to add every somewhat notable scene rather than the signature scene, which is the other major problem with the trope at the moment. honestly i might go further than a year and say it requires at least five or ten years — long enough that if an example is added it has permeated the popular consciousness and potentially gained enough homages or references in outside media and reviews
Waiting periods are generally reserved to curtail rampant misuse because it was creating bad examples. It doesn't come about because it sounds like something the trope should have.
In addition, it is very possible that a work gets re-evaluated over time and what everyone talks about at the start may not be what they talk about later on. Most important is that neither is invalid, and there is value in being able to list both things.
Comics are just words and pictures. You can do anything with words and pictures.![]()
i'd be inclined to argue there is misuse for signature scene created by bad examples (the cleanup thread
certainly isn't lacking in activity). i'd prefer not to go at length if there is a consensus that a waiting period wouldn't help, but i think it might genuinely curb a problem with the trope

Signature Scene describes the iconic scene of a work (be it for good reasons, bad reasons, or other reasons, like Memetic Mutation). It's the scene the vast majority of people think of when the work is brought up, even, in many cases, if they haven't seen that work. I wondered, therefore, if this trope should be No Recent Examples, Please!? It can be hard to gauge what the signature, iconic scene of a work is a few days after it's been released. Even if there's a scene that's extremely popular/infamous in the immediate after the release, it can be hard to gauge how long that lasts, and if there's several iconic scenes, which one (if any) will be the most signature. For a very popular work, a sign of the Signature Scene are often parodies in other works, or imitations, and, naturally, those won't appear immediately (though, on the other hand, not all Signature Scenes have those). As a result, I think there should be a waiting period. I'm not sure how long, mind. A year might be a good one, though I can understand if people think that's too long. A month would be too short in my eyes, but better than nothing.
