If I had a nickel for everytime someone on the internet called a Mario related production in the 2020s "over-animated", I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
I don't exactly get the "far too wordy" complaint for the game exactly when the game gives you the option to just fast forward through a lot of the dialogue unlike in say Dream Team

Have you tried using it? Holding B makes cutscene animations move at 2x speed, but mashing through text is exactly the same. And there's so much text, none of it well-written
There were points in where the solution or way forward was quite obvious but the game wanted to point it out anyway. And I'm used to double-tapping for text only because I always find the default text speed of games to be too slow. Though this does have the consequence of missing certain emphasis when it happens.
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.They could trim the phat...
That's the only problem with that game in the writing, sometimes it just restates things unnecessarily.
Despite keeping the tutorial fixes that people were vocal about in past games, this aspect...still ends up slowing the game down.

I don't think any amount of text speed other than instant would be fast enough for a "gamer"...
It doesn't seem like it really matters.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Yeah, I just got the game and I can agree it needed trimming or pacing help. I'm about three islands in and so far it feels like there's about twice as many cutscenes than the game really needs, and many to the tune of characters repeating the same dialogue they've already given, extensively reiterating the same lore or information, and only occasionally introducing new things.
I mentioned it on the main Mario thread, but so far it gives off the impression of the game being incredibly overtutorialized. That said, I don't necessarily think the individual cutscenes could have used trimming, but there's way too many of them with most of them not really having anything to say.

Brothership is definitely not the only game in the series to suffer from too much dialogue and being overtutorialized. Superstar Saga and Paper Jam (funnily enough) are the only games in the series to not have this problem.

Beat Brothership. Honestly don't mind the tutorials because it's very easy to skip them. Just quickly press a. Far less intrusive then superstar sagas tutorials, and from what I've seen partners in time.
Really did enjoy, but my biggest problems world exploration, sidequest design and pacing. Too many sidequests were just go here talk to this person. World exploration wasn't bad, but I've certainly seen better. The battle system was fantastic as always.
Here's a blasphemous opinion: Because I loved Origami Kings world design/secrets and sidequests and I found the battling system tolerable (in addition I liked the field combat) I ultimately enjoyed it more. The humor and story are equal in my mind, but if Origami King is an 8/10 then Brothership is a 7.5/10. Certainly better than a 5 that's for sure.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midHaving just played through the beginning of the game, I can safely say you don't get the ability to start skipping tutorials until towards the end of the first region.
Which is, tbh, around the point where the game in general starts improving leaps and bounds (and not just because of that). A lot of the QOL stuff I wished were implemented earlier suddenly started happening around the third island.

You might want to actually put a spot light on what you're calling a tutorial...
Because I'm genuinely curious as to what you're talking about.

The very first tutorial is a pop up showing you how to move, since it's not dialogue...it's just something you can close out.
You get a few more pop ups like that before the first actual M&L style tutorial which shows you how to use the Ocean map.
Well...the Ocean map or the tutorial for how to pass objects between Bros which is for some reason not contextual.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I already did:
I distinctly remember an instance where the same thorough walkthrough of a mechanic was given to the player four times in quick succession (I think about how currents work, or whichever it is after you free Arc) and then, after you finish the next island, the exact same walkthrough is given a fifth time with the only difference being "also, you can go back to previous islands while travelling" briefly tacked onto the end, when the whole thing probably could've been better paced incorporated into the cutscenes around it.
Outside of tutorials, there's also been more than one instance of "here's a big cutscene finishing an area, but before you go onto the next one go back to that same area to trigger a second cutscene about the same subject," though that more just struck me as bizarre, especially for a game for kids.
Keep in mind though that I noted that this problem does eventually goes away, just that it imo takes far too long for it to do so.

Revisiting islands for the sake of side quests got me thinking about Random Encounters. Perhaps it wasn't the nature of that trope that made me hate it so much, but the idea of going through areas I've already visited only to be constantly interrupted by irrelevant enemies does indeed exist in visible encounters. It seems like the enemy groups in this game are far more aggressive than they were in previous games, or it's just my perception. I can safely say that "Earthbound" did it best by having said irrelevant enemies actually run away from you in fear once your level was high enough, and any actual contact resulted in an instant win in your favor (though sadly this did deny me an encounter with the famous New-Age Retro Hippie).
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.Doing Lottacoins Island, and man it's just my luck to have been playing through Song Of Farca recently. Joy.
For reference, Song of Farca has a lot of four digit code puzzles with obtuse clues (but often more obtuse) just like the ones on Lottacoins, and let's just say I'm very burnt out on that kind of puzzle right now.

That's how every M&L game handles enemy encounter...
Like other games you also eventually get your overworld Bros move that makes it easier to avoid enemies.
Unlike the other games Luigi cannot back-hit by enemies in the overworld, so you only have worry about Mario.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. They just go through him most of the time...
He can first strike enemies, but they can't hit him.
Not that it would really make a difference, they got rid of tripping from that...enemies only get to attack first if they hit from behind.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Just got back from Conductor Island. And Zockett is Connie's mentor. I had guessed that Zockett was Patriarc, Arc's father.
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.…Oh, it feels fucking amazing being back in the "New Mario & Luigi game" groove again. I have missed this feeling, and you can TELL that the Mario & Luigi devs who kept themselves busy with developing Xenoblades 2 and 3 were itching to return to the Mario Bros.
Self-professed Wild Card who thinks cynicism isn't so bad.![]()
honestly Zokket being Connie's mentor immediately became obvious to me when they revealed her name was Cozette. but that's just me.
anyways i did beat the game last night! that final boss was actually SO fun, and the ending actually got me so emotional. i love this game. it's absolutely my favorite Mario & Luigi game.
...though i've only finished one other, lmao.
Welcome, my little friend! Or should I say...friends?

Just beat the game. How to put this... If you got rid of all the backtracking and trimmed out around 75% of the cutscenes, this would be the best game in the series. Unfortunately, the reality is that the game is padded and far too wordy. I'd give it a 7/10, I think
