I don't know if it's just me, but if Bob and Yelena were the same gender, it would definitely be popular in ship fan fiction.

I mean it could be a popular ship even if they aren't the same gender. Plenty of popular ships are the same gender. Gender is irrelevant to a ship becoming popular.

I have also seen people who ship them but it has also been like a day, so we don't know which ships will stick.

Sentry defeating the Thunderbolts can be considered The Worf Effect, or they are not strong enough to qualify as an example.

[up]Still, it influences that Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls

Probably not, because the Thunderbolts aren't exactly a shining example of power, and they themselves lampshade how disorganized and not strong they are compared to the gold standard.

Yeah, that's not what Worf Effect means.

I guess the huge difference makes it ineligible as an example.

Bucky being physically outmatched by Spider-Man could be considered the "The Worf Effect," Bucky being outmatched by a physical god, not so much.

It's a trope used to show how tough the new villain is by having them beat up the toughest guy on team good guy.

Maybe it counts in Civil War, but I think of it as a bad guy trope.

If there's an example of the Worf Effect in Civil War, it's in how the other Winter Soldiers are introduced, explicitly stronger and more dangerous than Bucky.

Yeah but didn't Zemo kill them before they could do anything? It's been a while.

A key part is not just being stated to be stronger, but they have to demonstrate it by beating up a tough opponent on team hero.

That was more of an example of Worf Had Flu, being that when they went mad, Bucky stopped holding back and managed to knock out like two of them.

They did, though. In flashbacks, they kicked the crap out of Bucky. He made it clear they were more dangerous than him.

Now, their role in the story was a Bait-and-Switch, but it's still an example of the trope.

Okay, debating about the tropes over.

So how did you all feel about Taskmaster, the woman who can climb anything, in this movie?

I felt nothing. Which is why killing her off was a mistake. A death should always mean something to the story and this one didn't.

Somewhat disappointed, Electro was Rescued from the Scrappy Heap, so I assumed they would try the same with her.

I think it really stood out how no one cared about her, not even Yelena.

Was this better than The Suicide Squad or on the same level?

[up][up]Personally, I'd rank it about on the same level as Suicide Squad, the OG one.

Both get a 6/10 from me. THE Suicide Squad is better IMO.

[up] Think they mean the Gunn one.

I actually like it better than the Suicide Squad. Though I don't think they are very similar either.

I think the main difference is that, while there's lots of humor in this movie, our characters various mental illnesses (depression, suicidal ideation, BPAD, and so on) and pitiable nature isn't really played for laughs.

[up][up]I did mentally compare it to Suicide Squad as a joke, it got serious in some cases, like Fontaine to me personally just comes off as less charismatic Waller.

And TBF, Viola Davis is a tough actor to beat in that department.

I like Yelena more than Harley.

And unlike Amanda Waller, the woman with the hard-to-remember last name didn't believe a group of street levels would be a match for a Superman-level threat.

That Amanda Waller actually believed a boomerang-throwing guy and a crazy woman like Harley were a threat to Superman is unintentional comedy.

Sentry Void works better than Enchantres as the big threat. Along with the team not bring full villains like the squad but anti heroes.

Oh speaking off the whole mental issues theme in the movie, particularly depression, it felt like it needed more room to develop, there's one or two convos Yelena and Bob have before the final battle, and it's only Yelena and Bob who get the lion's share of the exploration. Walker got some lines and scenes of having to deal with the loss of being Captain America because he beat the shit out of some guy, but Ghost didn't get much.

I have to compare this again to the Civil War Thunderbolts because I personally can admit to relating a bit to Norman's struggle of trying to deal with his own issues while having to manage a team of psychopaths and killers.

I dunno, something about that felt more compelling than what this movie tried to do.
