I said this on another Ask The Tropers query, but if a bad parent can undo years of mistakes and neglect with just an "Oops, my bad" and being likeable to the audience, and so can count for Good Parents then this trope is meaningless.

Is this a real problem though besides the As Told by Ginger, or an imagined problem? Most parent characters (unless they’re the focus) aren’t Rounded characters, but I feel like there’s more dimension to what counts for Good Parents between “parent who is always good” and “parent who is not good”.

[up] While I do agree we dont NEED for this trope to be about perfect parents, and that most of my problems might just be THAT ONE example, I do think we do need to have standards and not just any kind or likeable character count. To be fair I did see most examples do fit and arent stretches.

I think the standard should be "Competent, caring parent who does their best not to fail their kids, and consistently puts them first, even if they still have flaws."
