I fought Link's Dark Echo by drawing his attention by smashing pots, then getting behind him to summon a Darknut. When Link takes a hit to the back, he's stunned for a moment, allowing the monster to get another hit. I don't think it was the most efficient way, but it eventually worked out. As for the dungeon's main boss, yeah, its pretty much "Use, Binding, Use Swordmode, repeat".
Spoilers for Gerudo Sanctum ahead.

The Link fight there was TOUGH. Even though you have sword mode now, Link doesn't make it easy with his bow. This one I kind of just spammed Darknuts and Moblins in the first phase, then tried to just bumrush with Sword Zelda in the second phase. The main boss is an interesting twist on the Zelda boss formula - He is fought using Echoes, but its (for me at least, maybe there's other ways to do it) specfically one of the Echoes you find in the dungeon.
I think my most used Echoes so far are the Trampoline (I don't trust my self with those Still World jumps), the Moblins, and both types of spider. I have a few new ones I haven't tried out yet though, and right before I ended my last play session, I added Wolfos to the list. That one might be some fun.
For the mid-boss of the first dungeon, I had listened to a preview video and knew Link was flammable. After screwing up using the grass on the side, I just repeatedly spawned in the Flame Pol and just chucked it at him from behind.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Did anyone else notice that this is the thirteenth Link we've seen in the history of the series?
(Unless it's been confirmed otherwise.)

I'm still really getting the vibe Ganon isn't the main villain here. I can't figure out how unleashing the rifts is going to profit him and allow world domination.
Surely plunging the world into rifts won't allow him to take over the world. Even at his worst in TOTK and wanting to cover the world in darkness, he was still going to rule over the ashes.
This feels so off as a Ganon plot. Hmmmmmmmm.....something is wrong.

Link from the Oracle games isn't the same Link from Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, despite what the ending of the linked Oracle games might suggest.
The depiction of the Links in game art aren't the same, and more importantly Link and Zelda have never met each other in the Oracle games nor in Link to the Past. So those two can't feature the same characters.
I think either Hyrule Historia or the Encyclopedia did suggest they were the same, but that just doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

In either case, both BOTW Link and this Link are unlucky. One went into a coma for 100 years and now lives in a world that he doesn't fully recognize. The other gets the Damsel in Distress treatment just as he's about to free Zelda and finish his quest.

Yeah I was confused at that whole turnaround.
I guess it’s because Oracle Link looks way too young?
Granted, Koume and Kotake do seem to treat him as the same Link who killed Ganon back in ALTTP.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"What I meant was, both the Oracle games and Link to the Past have their dialogue as if Link and Zelda are meeting for the first time. I may have worded that confusingly in my last post. (I also might just straight up be wrong. It's been known to happen)
Anyway, this topic isn't meant for timeline shenanigans.
Gerudo and Zora area minor spoilers - Not plot, just in the sense of "I don't want to influence the order other first time players do things if they don't want to be influenced" kind of thing.
I'm glad I did the Gerudo region first. The Flying Tile has been a useful traversal tool in some places. Although it'd definetly be interesting to go through these games again and switch up the order. Finished up the pre-work to the third (or it could've been second) dungeon, Jabul Ruins, but stopped before doing the dungeon itself. Water blocks are a bit awkward to use. They don't always create where you want them to. Especially if you wanted to go vertically. Maybe I just need to aim Zelda better? I don't know, still getting used to it.

I'd say it's closer to a bigger version of a Link to the Past. You have a lot of freedom to tackle obstacles in different ways, but everything else is mostly free in the way that Link to the Past is free. You get some choice in when to tackle dungeons and overworld exploration, limited by abilities (in this case, sometimes Echoes and sometimes other things) gating you, but some dungeons and story points still have to be done in order.

I will say, Nintendo, please, hire a UI guy.
I love this game, but there has to be a better way to cycle through echoes. A grid would've been nice? Or creature/object tabs. And I know there's a grid layout in the notebook for your echoes but that's so inconvenient to go to.
Instead it's a long ass line you gotta scroll through with some dubiously useful sort options
Edited by Ghilz on Sep 27th 2024 at 10:55:28 AM
People where worried about that since the mechanic was announced.
I wouldn't mind a object/monster split at all I'll say that.
You are not alone.Eh, I find the several sorting options that are given fine as is. You're generally going to be using your last-used or most-used echoes 90% of the time. When something is introduced it's generally of immediate use to bypass the current obstacle, and then the things that you use the most are usually that way for a reason.
There is a monster/object split. One of the sorting methods is Type.

Man, do not underestimate the combat applications of Bind. Holding something still for one of your echoes to wail on is always fun. That or covering something in spikey sea urchins. Is Zelda a sadist? She feels like a sadist.

I'm thinking more "At a button's press notice" like holding right gets you monsters and holding right+Y gets you objects or something.

You are not alone.

WRONG THREAD. Pay no attention to this.
Game over, return of Ganon.
