We've had the Hunger Games
, Big Brother
, and even Battle for Dream Island (BFDI)
! Yet, even with all of these reality show-esque threads here on Forum Games (whether they be controlled by the tropers themselves or a simulator), one thing has been boggling my mind... there hasn't been a TV Tropes version of The Amazing Race yet.
Similarly to, yet different from its fellow CBS reality programs (including Survivor and the aforementioned Big Brother), the premise of The Amazing Race is quite simple: 11 teams (or more) of two travel to different countries and complete challenges in order to be the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of the leg, with the last team to do so risking elimination. Once 3 (rarely 4) teams are left standing, it's an all-out race to the Finish Line (with challenges as usual), and the first team to make it is declared the Official Winner.
Before we get started, let's lay down the basics of the game.
I would use an actual simulator for this, but the Amazing Race simulator on BrantSteele got set to private, and the ones on Scratch didn't meet my expectations. So to improvise, I'll let you (the tropers) control the characters you nominate, and I'll act as the host.
Each troper must nominate two avatars from their gallery (preferably with a pre-existing relationship, such as "Brothers", "Best Friends", or "Flight Attendants"), making one team. For this season, we'll do the usual 11 teams, and whoever decides to host the next one decides, and it goes from there. Each team will earn a set amount of money at the start of each leg, which they can use to pay for all travel expenses except for flight (such as trains and taxis). If a team spends all their money, they may obtain more in manners that do not involve law breaking, such as selling possessions, begging from the locals, or borrowing money from other teams.
Each team will also get a clue at the start of each leg, which will tell them where they will have to go next. Clues can also be obtained at route markers or after completing tasks. Route markers are usually attached to the boxes that contain clues, but some may mark the location that the teams have to go to next.
If a team arrives at the Pit Stop last on a leg, they will be eliminated unless the leg is a Non-Elimination Leg; if that's the case, the team will be allowed to continue racing, but they will have to perform a Speed Bump in the next leg: a task only they have to complete. Teams are never told which legs are Non-Elimination Legs in advance, and it's only a matter of luck. Teams may incur a time penalty at the Pit Stop for not completing a task properly or not completing a task altogether. Teams incurring a time penalty will have to wait for their penalty to end before being checked in, which can allow other teams to check in before the team with the penalty.
Each leg has a set of two tasks. These tasks vary in type. One type of task is the Detour, a task that has two different sides ("A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons."). Upon arrival, teams are given details about both sides of the Detour, but they may only complete one side, and both members have to complete the task. Usually, one side of the Detour is more physically-demanding and takes less time to complete, while the other side is less physically-demanding, but requires thinking and takes more time to complete.
Another type of task is the Roadblock ("A Roadblock is a task that only one team member can perform"). Prior to arrival at a Roadblock, teams read a vague question about the task that's to come (such as "Who's really hungry?" for a challenge about eating ostrich eggs). Teams may figure out the task by observing their surroundings, using common sense, or witnessing other teams performing the Roadblock. Unlike a Detour, however, only one member of each team can complete a Roadblock, and the other member is not allowed to help. If a leg has two Roadblocks, the team member who sat out the first Roadblock must perform the second one.
Other Amazing Race terms include:
- Fast Forward - A task that multiple teams can attempt, but only one team can fully complete. The team who completes the Fast Forward task is allowed to skip all other tasks in the leg and go straight to the Pit Stop. Any other teams at the Fast Forward task will have wasted their time and will have to continue the leg from where they left off prior to the Fast Forward.
- U-Turn - Allows a team to force another team to complete both sides of the Detour. A variant of this is the Double U-Turn, which allows two teams to use the same U-Turn.
- Yield - Allows a team to force another team to stop racing for a predetermined amount of time, usually 30 minutes. Teams are usually informed of when a Yield is going to be in the leg if the message "Caution, Yield Ahead!" is written on the clue.
- Superleg - A double-length leg with two sets of tasks. A Megaleg is similar to this, but it lacks a proper midpoint/rest area.
- No-Rest Leg - A leg that ends with a Pit Stop, but teams are handed their next clue immediately and are ordered to keep racing. What differentiates this from a Superleg is that on a No-Rest Leg, it and the leg after it are counted as two separate legs.
- Express Pass - A pass, usually given to the team who finishes first on the first leg, that allows the recipient to skip any task of their choosing without a penalty except the Fast Forward. Teams may be awarded two Express Passes, one or both of which can be given to another team, and rarely, an Express Pass can be handed out after a task.
- Save - A pass, obtained either by finishing first on the first leg or completing certain criteria, that allows the recipient to save themselves from elimination if they finish a leg in last place. If the leg turns out to be a Non-Elimination Leg, then the Save will be returned to the recipient if they attempt to use it.
- Double Battle (also known as a Duel, Face-Off, or Head-to-Head) - A task, usually right before the Pit Stop, where two teams compete against each other. The winning team will receive their next clue/check in at the Pit Stop, while the losing team has to wait for another team to arrive at the Double Battle location and try again. The cycle repeats until all but one team has won the Double Battle, and that team will either incur a 15-minute time penalty or instantly be eliminated.
- Starting Line Task - A task that is performed at the Starting Line. All teams must complete this task before continuing with the race.
- Intersection - Requires two teams to perform a task together. If multiple teams are present at the Intersection, teams may choose which team they would like to pair up with; conversely, if no teams are present at the moment, any given team must wait for another team to arrive, though they can opt to not pair up with that team and wait for another.
- Switchback - A task that was previously featured in a different season, usually brought back due to difficulty or significance.
- Driver's Seat - Allows the first team to arrive at a designated board to decide how much work the remaining teams will be required to do at the succeeding task. For example, Jonathan & Ana from The Amazing Race 37 decided which teams had to harvest 15, 20, or 25 pounds of rice at the fourth leg's Roadblock.
- Fork in the Road - A choice between two tasks, similar to a Detour. However, in a Fork in the Road, the choices are connected to different routes. Teams make their choice by placing their "Courtesy Of" photo on the route that they would like to take, like they would at a U-Turn or Yield. Once the choice is made, it cannot be changed, and the team will have to follow that route for the rest of the leg. Only a limited number of teams can select each route.
- Valet Roulette - Teams blindly pick a car key from a wheel and give it to the locals to find out whether the car they chose for the leg is manual or automatic.
- Scramble - Presents teams with three different tasks or challenges that they must complete; however, they may complete the tasks in any order they'd like. Each task that is completed rewards a team with a portion of their next clue, and receiving all the portions allows the team to put the clue together.
- City Sprint - A leg where teams must complete a series of tasks in the city that they're in for the leg before returning back to their starting point, doubling as the Pit Stop. There are no Roadblocks or Detours in a city sprint.
And also for clarification, if you're interested in playing the game, please be active. We don't want the game to be delayed or rendered completely inactive because of an offline player.
Now, without further ado, it's nomination time!

Upon their buses stop, Pecky and Pierre moved to leave their bus first.
Well, we’ve arrived.
His home is an actual pineapple? Wow! That’s amazing!
No time for distractions, Pierre. We gotta get in there and find him.
So the two birds enter the pineapple in order to find Sponge Bob. They decide to split up so that they can check if the sea sponge is in one of the rooms downstairs.

So grab a stick and take a swing! Do the Piñata thing!Leaving the Second Bus —> Spongebob's House
The trip is uneventful, and at 1:30PM, Mirabel and Luisa's bus arrives in front of the pineapple house. They pay the driver Col$2,500 ($0.59), with Mirabel telling them that she hopes they accept it, before she and Luisa collect their luggage and alight at the doorstep.
They enter the house and see Pecky and Pierre split up to look for Spongebob.
"Let's stick together, shall we?" says Mirabel. "We don't have anything we can use to contact each other yet."
"Alright."
Luisa then starts lifting various furniture in the living room.
"Spongebob... where are you?"
"Uh... can you please put them back where they belong? I don't think he'd hide from us under there!"
"Oh, okay!"
Luisa rearranges the furniture.
"Good thing they're also weighted well enough like our luggage! But where else should we look for him?"
"Well, what do you think does he like to do here right now? We can start from there!"

Still waiting for someone to break him free...From the third bus...

We shouldn't waste time. I'm glad you could help with finding how the pineapple house should look like, Aya-chan.
No problem! Well, we should get going as quickly as possible, but we'd have to also politely enter and give a proper greeting like Idols should do.
Chisato:Okay, if you say so. Also, Spongebob looks like what? A round sponge?
Aya:More like a square, yellow anthropomorphic sponge. Let's go and get him to help with that clue, Chisato-chan!
The two would get out of the bus, and before they get in...
Chisato: Oh, and don't worry about splitting up ways to different rooms. I'll check upstairs. I'll catch up and go back if I can't find him anywhere on the upper floor.
Aya: Got it. I'll search the ground floor's rooms. If he's not on here I'll go on the upper rooms.
Then Aya gently taps the door. If that wouldn't be enough, she would knock on it a few times. (If that is still not enough, Chisato would try to open the door through turning the wheel that is used as the door's handle from outside.)

Nothing solves a day of depression better than a warm smile.*wesker and nemesis exit the third bus after paying the driver a small fee. the latter walks towards spongebob's house and opens the door*
Nemesis: Sponge...! (Must find Sponge Bob!)
*the big guy enters as wesker waltzes inside, following him. after an unsuccessfull hunt on the ground floor, the two split up as the blonde Mad Scientist goes downstairs and the B.O.W. goes upstairs*

(cue the couple wandering into the pineapple..)
How do we know its the one we're looking for?
That is...actually a good question, what would he look like..?
Jean and Barbara exit the bus and venture off in search of the pineapple-shaped house. Once there...
This must be it...
Looks like it...
Once inside, they search for the house's vicinity...together.
What's he look like?
Some kind of rectangular sponge wearing a white dress shirt with a necktie and brown pants.
Just like The Knave's fashion sense...
They checked all of the house's rooms to find the silly sponge until they hear Gary the Snail meowing. He knows where SpongeBob is and the sisters follow him. And by sheer luck they happen to find the snail's master in his personal bedroom...still fast asleep after a long day's work. The sisters are now in a dilemma as to whether they should wake him up or wait until he wakes up on his own power.
At least they found SpongeBob.

Matikane Tannhäuser, now departing for the front line! Ei, ei, mun!Not finding him downstairs, both Piñata’s then travel up the stairs. Hoping to find Sponge Bob there.
So grab a stick and take a swing! Do the Piñata thing!*wesker opens a door and finds two girls near a bed, with a gigantic sea sponge sleeping on it. he immideatly goes down the stairs to tell his "teammate"*
Wesker: I think I found him! Follow me, big guy!
*nemesis doesn't listen*
Wesker: I think he's upstairs. Come on, let's go!
*nemesis still won't budge*
Wesker, exasperated: ...I've heard he's a member of S.T.A.R.S. too!
*upon hearing that word, the bioweapon rushes up the stairs and bursts through spunchbob's sleeping room, scaring the two girls as he yells his signature phrase*
Nemesis: S.T.A.R.S.!!!
*spongebob wakes up screaming*
Tsubomi and Erika arrive out of their bus, of course after paying a small fee.
We're here, Erika-san!
That pineapple is really large compared to what it looked like on the tourist guide! (゜ロ゜)
Let's go inside and search for clues on where Spongebob is. I'll look in the kitchen area, and you'll look in the bathroom. If he's not there, we'll look on the rooftop.
Tsubomi-san, are you sure the rooftop might be safe for us to walk on? I don't know if it has a fence. (* ̄∇ ̄)
All I can do for now is hope.
The girls separated away from each other as they looked to see where Spongebob was.

Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition.I think that is the jurisdiction of the game runner.
So grab a stick and take a swing! Do the Piñata thing!
"Oh, hey! There's the pineapple house! Oh, it looks as delicious as it sounded!"
*dopeslaps her* "Focus! We can eat later! Now, where's Spongebob? He can't be that hard to find - he's square!"
"Kyarl, that sounds a bit meaan!"
"Uh, I-bluh-er-Ohhh!! You know what I mean. Not in that way!"
Meanwhile, in the kitchen:
Now where could Spongebob be?
Erika appears in the kitchen after inspecting the bathroom.
I looked in the bathroom. He's not in the bathtub, not in the basin, and not on any shelf, where you would normally find sponges. (´д`)
(Gasp) Erika-san, Spongebob isn't an inanimate sponge. He is an anthropomorphic sea sponge that wears a nice shirt and tie.
Well I did see a creature in a quite fashionable shirt and tie combo while I was on my way to investigate the bathroom... (◔◡◔)
Erika-san, that's Spongebob! Quick, let's go and see if he is still in the location you saw him!
(Both girls ran near the bathroom to see if Spongebob was still there)

Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition.Meanwhile...
I think Spongebob might been in the living room, he often comes to that place anyway. It's also connected to just outside the house. Who knows he might come back here? I'm waiting to make my surprise here. I know it's not the most polite, but...
On the other hand...
What is taking so long to find him...? Was the person we're supposed to meet just moved past other rooms that we didn't knew while we're about to enter and explore another large room?
The sponge on the bed turns out to be a fake made to try and throw the other teams off. As for the two girls, pretend they were two staff members taking a nap after the Genshin sisters left the room, knowing full well the sponge there wasn't our Sponge, and as for the scream, it was merely a voice box. The real Sponge indeed turned out to be in the bathroom all along! Erika and Tsubomi open the door and to their excitement, they find Wanderlust and SpongeBob standing next to a clue marker that hadn't been set up yet when Erika first checked there.
SpongeBob: Hi! My name is SpongeBob SquarePants, and welcome to Bikini Bottom! (performs his signature laugh as he hands the Cures their next clue)
Clue 3: ROADBLOCK! Who really knows how to cook by the book?
Wanderlust, narrating: A Roadblock is a task that only one team member can perform. Now, teams must make their way by rental car to the Krusty Krab, one of Bikini Bottom's most renowned eating establishments. Once there, one member of each team must go into the kitchen and cook a perfect Krabby Patty following the exact recipe. If Mr. Krabs disapproves of their work, they have to start over, but if he approves, he will give them their next clue.
Outside of SpongeBob's pineapple are 11 rental cars parked for each team to take.

Aaahh! Did I just heard something and others about to come out?
Chisato opens the door on the dining room from the stairs leading to Spongebob's bedroom, after walking downstairs.
Aya-chan, I should've known that the apparently sleeping Spongebob in the bedroom is a cardboard used to trick and waste time. Anyways, what did you hear?
Aya: Spongebob is actually in one of the rooms near the kitchen. I heard the sound there! Hurry

Nothing solves a day of depression better than a warm smile.Hold on, if that’s not him, then where’s…
You don’t think he’s…
Both piñatas leave his room and head down stairs and spot him in the bathroom.
Boy, do I feel silly.
We just need the clue. The two enter the bathroom.

What if he's sick?
it is def up to catch to decide when we find him guys cmon
"And for one night only...you can get your revenge." / NEWPecorine dashes right for Spongebob's bedroom.
"Aha! I've found you! Awww! It's just a cardboard cutout..."
"Duh, that's too obvious. *ear twitches* "Hold on. Do you hear that? It sounds like singing and it's coming from...
Kyarl dramatically points at the bathroom.
"He's hiding in there!"
*glomps onto Kyarl* "Oh, no. We mustn't! It'll be very rude to interrupt someone when they're showering."
*struggles* "Let go of me, you Idiorine! We're already in the back of the pack. Do you want us to be laastt? Argh!"
Kyarl staggers towards the bathroom, dragging a Pecorine along with her, and slams open the doors.
"You! Give us our next clue!"

My troper wall's now my troper page, yay! Come to IJBM

Assuming that all the teams have arrived at Bikini Bottom and exited their submarines, the buses leave the stop and are headed to SpongeBob's house at the following times:
Bus 1: 1:00pm
Bus 2: 1:30pm
Bus 3: 2:00pm
Current Standings for Leg 1
Stays exactly the same since the bus groups are the same as the submarine groups. And just a heads up, your characters don't have to perform the challenges flawlessly. If you'd like, they can also make mistakes to more closely resemble the actual show.
