We've had the Hunger Games
, Big Brother
, and even Battle for Dream Island (BFDI)
! Yet, even with all of these reality show-esque threads here on Forum Games (whether they be controlled by the tropers themselves or a simulator), one thing has been boggling my mind... there hasn't been a TV Tropes version of The Amazing Race yet.
Similarly to, yet different from its fellow CBS reality programs (including Survivor and the aforementioned Big Brother), the premise of The Amazing Race is quite simple: 11 teams (or more) of two travel to different countries and complete challenges in order to be the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of the leg, with the last team to do so risking elimination. Once 3 (rarely 4) teams are left standing, it's an all-out race to the Finish Line (with challenges as usual), and the first team to make it is declared the Official Winner.
Before we get started, let's lay down the basics of the game.
I would use an actual simulator for this, but the Amazing Race simulator on BrantSteele got set to private, and the ones on Scratch didn't meet my expectations. So to improvise, I'll let you (the tropers) control the characters you nominate, and I'll act as the host.
Each troper must nominate two avatars from their gallery (preferably with a pre-existing relationship, such as "Brothers", "Best Friends", or "Flight Attendants"), making one team. For this season, we'll do the usual 11 teams, and whoever decides to host the next one decides, and it goes from there. Each team will earn a set amount of money at the start of each leg, which they can use to pay for all travel expenses except for flight (such as trains and taxis). If a team spends all their money, they may obtain more in manners that do not involve law breaking, such as selling possessions, begging from the locals, or borrowing money from other teams.
Each team will also get a clue at the start of each leg, which will tell them where they will have to go next. Clues can also be obtained at route markers or after completing tasks. Route markers are usually attached to the boxes that contain clues, but some may mark the location that the teams have to go to next.
If a team arrives at the Pit Stop last on a leg, they will be eliminated unless the leg is a Non-Elimination Leg; if that's the case, the team will be allowed to continue racing, but they will have to perform a Speed Bump in the next leg: a task only they have to complete. Teams are never told which legs are Non-Elimination Legs in advance, and it's only a matter of luck. Teams may incur a time penalty at the Pit Stop for not completing a task properly or not completing a task altogether. Teams incurring a time penalty will have to wait for their penalty to end before being checked in, which can allow other teams to check in before the team with the penalty.
Each leg has a set of two tasks. These tasks vary in type. One type of task is the Detour, a task that has two different sides ("A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons."). Upon arrival, teams are given details about both sides of the Detour, but they may only complete one side, and both members have to complete the task. Usually, one side of the Detour is more physically-demanding and takes less time to complete, while the other side is less physically-demanding, but requires thinking and takes more time to complete.
Another type of task is the Roadblock ("A Roadblock is a task that only one team member can perform"). Prior to arrival at a Roadblock, teams read a vague question about the task that's to come (such as "Who's really hungry?" for a challenge about eating ostrich eggs). Teams may figure out the task by observing their surroundings, using common sense, or witnessing other teams performing the Roadblock. Unlike a Detour, however, only one member of each team can complete a Roadblock, and the other member is not allowed to help. If a leg has two Roadblocks, the team member who sat out the first Roadblock must perform the second one.
Other Amazing Race terms include:
- Fast Forward - A task that multiple teams can attempt, but only one team can fully complete. The team who completes the Fast Forward task is allowed to skip all other tasks in the leg and go straight to the Pit Stop. Any other teams at the Fast Forward task will have wasted their time and will have to continue the leg from where they left off prior to the Fast Forward.
- U-Turn - Allows a team to force another team to complete both sides of the Detour. A variant of this is the Double U-Turn, which allows two teams to use the same U-Turn.
- Yield - Allows a team to force another team to stop racing for a predetermined amount of time, usually 30 minutes. Teams are usually informed of when a Yield is going to be in the leg if the message "Caution, Yield Ahead!" is written on the clue.
- Superleg - A double-length leg with two sets of tasks. A Megaleg is similar to this, but it lacks a proper midpoint/rest area.
- No-Rest Leg - A leg that ends with a Pit Stop, but teams are handed their next clue immediately and are ordered to keep racing. What differentiates this from a Superleg is that on a No-Rest Leg, it and the leg after it are counted as two separate legs.
- Express Pass - A pass, usually given to the team who finishes first on the first leg, that allows the recipient to skip any task of their choosing without a penalty except the Fast Forward. Teams may be awarded two Express Passes, one or both of which can be given to another team, and rarely, an Express Pass can be handed out after a task.
- Save - A pass, obtained either by finishing first on the first leg or completing certain criteria, that allows the recipient to save themselves from elimination if they finish a leg in last place. If the leg turns out to be a Non-Elimination Leg, then the Save will be returned to the recipient if they attempt to use it.
- Double Battle (also known as a Duel, Face-Off, or Head-to-Head) - A task, usually right before the Pit Stop, where two teams compete against each other. The winning team will receive their next clue/check in at the Pit Stop, while the losing team has to wait for another team to arrive at the Double Battle location and try again. The cycle repeats until all but one team has won the Double Battle, and that team will either incur a 15-minute time penalty or instantly be eliminated.
- Starting Line Task - A task that is performed at the Starting Line. All teams must complete this task before continuing with the race.
- Intersection - Requires two teams to perform a task together. If multiple teams are present at the Intersection, teams may choose which team they would like to pair up with; conversely, if no teams are present at the moment, any given team must wait for another team to arrive, though they can opt to not pair up with that team and wait for another.
- Switchback - A task that was previously featured in a different season, usually brought back due to difficulty or significance.
- Driver's Seat - Allows the first team to arrive at a designated board to decide how much work the remaining teams will be required to do at the succeeding task. For example, Jonathan & Ana from The Amazing Race 37 decided which teams had to harvest 15, 20, or 25 pounds of rice at the fourth leg's Roadblock.
- Fork in the Road - A choice between two tasks, similar to a Detour. However, in a Fork in the Road, the choices are connected to different routes. Teams make their choice by placing their "Courtesy Of" photo on the route that they would like to take, like they would at a U-Turn or Yield. Once the choice is made, it cannot be changed, and the team will have to follow that route for the rest of the leg. Only a limited number of teams can select each route.
- Valet Roulette - Teams blindly pick a car key from a wheel and give it to the locals to find out whether the car they chose for the leg is manual or automatic.
- Scramble - Presents teams with three different tasks or challenges that they must complete; however, they may complete the tasks in any order they'd like. Each task that is completed rewards a team with a portion of their next clue, and receiving all the portions allows the team to put the clue together.
- City Sprint - A leg where teams must complete a series of tasks in the city that they're in for the leg before returning back to their starting point, doubling as the Pit Stop. There are no Roadblocks or Detours in a city sprint.
And also for clarification, if you're interested in playing the game, please be active. We don't want the game to be delayed or rendered completely inactive because of an offline player.
Now, without further ado, it's nomination time!

As Tsubomi climbed upon her sled, she breathed in one last time before she pushed her legs forwards, kicking the sled to the edge of the hilltop. As she did, the sled, well, sled down the steep hill, and Tsubomi could only let out a scream.
AHhHHHhhhhHHHhhhhHHHhhhh!
The sled was moving so fast, and Tsubomi was screaming so loud, that she forgot that she had passed by a couple of flags.
Eek! I forgot about the challenge! I'll try to reach for one of them.
Noticing a flag that would pass by to the right side of her sled, Tsubomi released her right arm from the sled's handlebar, and reached her right hand out. Within a few seconds, she caught her first flag with her right hand.

Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition.Luisa cascades farther down and looks for another flag. She also sees Mirabel and Stan waiting for her at the base, so she makes a quick wave at them before making a hard turn to narrowly dodge a rock. She then almost brushes past the last flag, but she grabs it at the last minute before braking at the bottom.
"Muy bien!" Mirabel claps for her as Luisa then hands the flags over to Stan.
Still waiting for someone to break him free...Aya climbs up the steep hill. However, she struggles to keep pace up with the others when you're both climbing and trying to avoid falling at the same time.
"Ah, this is so steep, but I have to make it for Chisato-chan."
Taking a pretty long time to do so...
She manages to make it at the peak. She can see some sleds sliding down already... and gets one.
"Here goes nothing..." she said before getting ready to slide down, though she took some time observing how would she try to get to both of the flags in one go, and try to avoid crashing.
Nothing solves a day of depression better than a warm smile. As Pecky and Pierre and Mirabel and Luisa met up again at the wonderous finish line, where many of the kids of South Park were cheering, and arrived at Stan, he passed out the next clue.
Clue 6: Travel to the Bijou Cinema and search around one of the theater's seats for the next clue.
Wanderlust, narrating: Teams will need to rent another car to take them near the outskirts to the Bijou Cinema. There, they must request two tickets from the ticket booth for free to enter the theater premises. Although the auditorium is small, there are numerous seats that may hold the next clue box, both on and below the seat. This clue will be performed in the dark, so teams will need to rely on the movie screen as their flashlight. Once teams find the clue box and retrieve the next clue, they must leave the premises and continue on in the race.

Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition. After thanking Stan, the piñatas return to their car to reach the Cinema in order to find the next clue.
So grab a stick and take a swing! Do the Piñata thing!Mirabel and Luisa notice the other kids crowding near them and cheering, but when they see Cartman, Luisa immediately drags Mirabel back to their car and asks the driver to take them to the movies, not to watch whatever is now showing, but to find the next clue.

Still waiting for someone to break him free...Decaf, did your chosen character give the flags to Stan?
The Piñatas arrive at the theater and, begin the search in the dark for the clue box.

So grab a stick and take a swing! Do the Piñata thing!
I'm prolly gonna assume Abigail gave the flags offscreen
. Also, the tickets are free.
The Madrigals pay another tree-point-fiddy upon arriving at the cinema, and they line up behind the Operatives and the piñatas to get their tickets.
Still waiting for someone to break him free...Tsubomi was still sliding down the steep hill. She was trying her best to steer her sled to ensure she did not collide with other obstacles.
Wait, I think that must be another flag!
Tsubomi steered her sled next to the upcoming flag she could potentially collect.
Meanwhile, Erika on the foot of Phil Collins Hill was cheering at Tsubomi, maybe even bragging.
COME ON TSUBOMI-SAN! YOU'RE DOING GREAT! Tsubomi-san is the best at this activity, there is no contest there! (`◡ ヮ ◡‘)
As Tsubomi sled down, she reached out her right hand again, and caught her second flag from the snow.
Well, I have collected my two flags now, so all I need to do is steer to the finish line.
Right now, Tsubomi's sled was heading for the edge of a cliff. This could mean real danger for her, for she could get eaten by one of the bears there if she falls from the cliff!

Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition.(after heistation, dongrang finally makes his way down the mountain...at breakneck speed, snatching the needed flags, collecting the clue and crash landing near the cinema.)
"And for one night only...you can get your revenge." / NEWJust as she was about to fall of the cliff, Tsubomi steered her sled heavily to her right, just missing the edge.
Phew. I'm so thankful.
As the sled continued racing on the snow, Tsubomi immediately saw the finish line, and as Tsubomi's sled sped through, it was heading for the finishing line's right pole. Unfortunately, it was too late for Tsubomi to control her sled.
AHHhhhhHHhhhhHHhhhh!!!!
The sled immediately crashed onto the pole, but thankfully, Tsubomi turned her sled counter-clockwise and pushed her sled slightly forward with her legs, just crossing the finish line. Tiredly, she commented:
I... do not want to sled anymore...
Tsubomi escaped her sled, and met up with Erika, who was so focused on bragging about her sledding, that she only ran towards Tsubomi when the latter collided into the pole.
Tsubomi-san, I knew you were amazing at sledding! (>ω<)
I've conquered this fear, but I... would like to do a much grounded challenge...
As they arrived to Stan Marsh, he handed the cures their next clue.
So it seems we'll need to travel... to the theater...
You think that they'll be screening our movie Heartcatch Pretty Cure! the Movie: Fashion Show in the Flower Capital... Really?! That would be amazing! (//∇//)
I, unfortunately, doubt they would air that film, or any films us contestants are in, in their theater. But still, we need to get our next clue.
The cures found a designated rental car, and climbed into it with their bags. All they need to do is wait for their intern to drive them to the theater.
Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition. After struggling to maintain her balance on the sled due to the strong winds when going down (and focus because she sled went down the hill very fast), Barbara finally made it down the hill with two flags in hand. She hands the flags to Stan, who gives them their next clue. Jean also happens to be waiting beside him.
"Travel to the Bijou Cinema and search around one of the theater's seats for the next clue."
They then return to their car and drove to the designated theater.

Matikane Tannhäuser, now departing for the front line! Ei, ei, mun!Clue 6:
As teams arrived at the Bijou Cinema, they noticed the movie playing today was a rerelease of Asses of Fire, the controversial movie that had once played at auditoriums, much to the anger of the parents of South Park around.
Nevertheless, the film's scenes are bright enough for the contestants to look on and under the seats.
Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition. The piñatas, using the movie as guidance, began to search for the clue box. Ignoring what was being said on screen.
So grab a stick and take a swing! Do the Piñata thing!(the couple followed suit shortly after dongrang recovered...samjo in particular was for some ungodly reason actually interested in the movie, however.)
"And for one night only...you can get your revenge." / NEW"I'll... take that as an okay?" says Mirabel as Dongrang wordlessly gets up and enters the cinema.
She and Luisa then follow suit, and the latter promptly covers the former's ears as swears and slurs are slung across the screen.
"I hope the clue isn't stuck under one of the chairs with gum..."
Still waiting for someone to break him free...As Aya slides down the downhill with the bobsled, she quickly extended her right arm for the first flag that she almost nearly missed with it being just to the right of her.
The second flag was in the left, with Aya almost forgetting to steer to the left before it was too late.
"A-ah! To the left!"
She grabbed that flag with the left.
"Phew, that was close! I almost missed it..."
As the bobsled comes close to the end of the slide, Chisato was waiting there.
"You did well! I actually didn't expect you would get both flags in one slide. You could just focus on aiming for one flag first on one slide and the other in the second."
"Still, I got too nervous... I was trying to get it to go slightly slower so I have more time to react, but it just keeps getting faster and faster..."
"Well, part of it because of gravity..."
"Allright! Next clue, Bijou Cinema! But first..."
Aya goes back uphill for a while, to return back the bobsled to where it was to begin with.
Then, they went to rent another car from the outskirts to return back to town get to the cinema. Luckily, this rental driver somehow knows the fastest route to the cinema, keeping within the fastest speed possible (without recklessly going dangerous) to get there.
As they enter the entrance gate...
Chisato goes first to the ticket booth first.
"Hello, excuse me, but we would like to get in to the theater. We are Amazing Race participants and the clue we have is the proof to confirm us. We would like two tickets, please."
After getting the tickets, they both would enter in the cinema and try to search. Aya and Chisato were whispering to each another:
''"We're a little bit late. The movie has already started."
"Aya-chan, don't look at the movie film, look under the nearest seats we are at and then the next one and so on."
"Y-yes."
(This movie is controversial according to the local residents of South Park. It's more of a base-breaking though since only the adults are particularly unhappy with it, while the kids and teens loved it.)
Being the shorter of the two and having good logical reasoning ability, Chisato looks under one of the seats. With a squating position, she tries to align her position so she can look under as many seats in front of her as possible. Though it might be taking a little longer for her to get up to look under another row of seats... she could possibly reduce the number of time she would need to get it.
Meanwhile, the more straight-minded girl, Aya, goes in front of each seat and crouches to search beneath them one by one each. It's faster for her to move around each seat, but she can only inspect beneath one seat at a time, so it might take a while for her to inspect each seat.

Nothing solves a day of depression better than a warm smile.

After reassuring that she could face anything, Tsubomi continued to climb the steep hill. After an hour had passed, Tsubomi reached the top of the hill.
Then Tsubomi got a little nervous.
Tsubomi looked again down the hill and thought of Erika.
Tsubomi searched around the top of the hill for a sled, which she found and set up at the adjacent side of the hill.
