We've had the Hunger Games
, Big Brother
, and even Battle for Dream Island (BFDI)
! Yet, even with all of these reality show-esque threads here on Forum Games (whether they be controlled by the tropers themselves or a simulator), one thing has been boggling my mind... there hasn't been a TV Tropes version of The Amazing Race yet.
Similarly to, yet different from its fellow CBS reality programs (including Survivor and the aforementioned Big Brother), the premise of The Amazing Race is quite simple: 11 teams (or more) of two travel to different countries and complete challenges in order to be the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of the leg, with the last team to do so risking elimination. Once 3 (rarely 4) teams are left standing, it's an all-out race to the Finish Line (with challenges as usual), and the first team to make it is declared the Official Winner.
Before we get started, let's lay down the basics of the game.
I would use an actual simulator for this, but the Amazing Race simulator on BrantSteele got set to private, and the ones on Scratch didn't meet my expectations. So to improvise, I'll let you (the tropers) control the characters you nominate, and I'll act as the host.
Each troper must nominate two avatars from their gallery (preferably with a pre-existing relationship, such as "Brothers", "Best Friends", or "Flight Attendants"), making one team. For this season, we'll do the usual 11 teams, and whoever decides to host the next one decides, and it goes from there. Each team will earn a set amount of money at the start of each leg, which they can use to pay for all travel expenses except for flight (such as trains and taxis). If a team spends all their money, they may obtain more in manners that do not involve law breaking, such as selling possessions, begging from the locals, or borrowing money from other teams.
Each team will also get a clue at the start of each leg, which will tell them where they will have to go next. Clues can also be obtained at route markers or after completing tasks. Route markers are usually attached to the boxes that contain clues, but some may mark the location that the teams have to go to next.
If a team arrives at the Pit Stop last on a leg, they will be eliminated unless the leg is a Non-Elimination Leg; if that's the case, the team will be allowed to continue racing, but they will have to perform a Speed Bump in the next leg: a task only they have to complete. Teams are never told which legs are Non-Elimination Legs in advance, and it's only a matter of luck. Teams may incur a time penalty at the Pit Stop for not completing a task properly or not completing a task altogether. Teams incurring a time penalty will have to wait for their penalty to end before being checked in, which can allow other teams to check in before the team with the penalty.
Each leg has a set of two tasks. These tasks vary in type. One type of task is the Detour, a task that has two different sides ("A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons."). Upon arrival, teams are given details about both sides of the Detour, but they may only complete one side, and both members have to complete the task. Usually, one side of the Detour is more physically-demanding and takes less time to complete, while the other side is less physically-demanding, but requires thinking and takes more time to complete.
Another type of task is the Roadblock ("A Roadblock is a task that only one team member can perform"). Prior to arrival at a Roadblock, teams read a vague question about the task that's to come (such as "Who's really hungry?" for a challenge about eating ostrich eggs). Teams may figure out the task by observing their surroundings, using common sense, or witnessing other teams performing the Roadblock. Unlike a Detour, however, only one member of each team can complete a Roadblock, and the other member is not allowed to help. If a leg has two Roadblocks, the team member who sat out the first Roadblock must perform the second one.
Other Amazing Race terms include:
- Fast Forward - A task that multiple teams can attempt, but only one team can fully complete. The team who completes the Fast Forward task is allowed to skip all other tasks in the leg and go straight to the Pit Stop. Any other teams at the Fast Forward task will have wasted their time and will have to continue the leg from where they left off prior to the Fast Forward.
- U-Turn - Allows a team to force another team to complete both sides of the Detour. A variant of this is the Double U-Turn, which allows two teams to use the same U-Turn.
- Yield - Allows a team to force another team to stop racing for a predetermined amount of time, usually 30 minutes. Teams are usually informed of when a Yield is going to be in the leg if the message "Caution, Yield Ahead!" is written on the clue.
- Superleg - A double-length leg with two sets of tasks. A Megaleg is similar to this, but it lacks a proper midpoint/rest area.
- No-Rest Leg - A leg that ends with a Pit Stop, but teams are handed their next clue immediately and are ordered to keep racing. What differentiates this from a Superleg is that on a No-Rest Leg, it and the leg after it are counted as two separate legs.
- Express Pass - A pass, usually given to the team who finishes first on the first leg, that allows the recipient to skip any task of their choosing without a penalty except the Fast Forward. Teams may be awarded two Express Passes, one or both of which can be given to another team, and rarely, an Express Pass can be handed out after a task.
- Save - A pass, obtained either by finishing first on the first leg or completing certain criteria, that allows the recipient to save themselves from elimination if they finish a leg in last place. If the leg turns out to be a Non-Elimination Leg, then the Save will be returned to the recipient if they attempt to use it.
- Double Battle (also known as a Duel, Face-Off, or Head-to-Head) - A task, usually right before the Pit Stop, where two teams compete against each other. The winning team will receive their next clue/check in at the Pit Stop, while the losing team has to wait for another team to arrive at the Double Battle location and try again. The cycle repeats until all but one team has won the Double Battle, and that team will either incur a 15-minute time penalty or instantly be eliminated.
- Starting Line Task - A task that is performed at the Starting Line. All teams must complete this task before continuing with the race.
- Intersection - Requires two teams to perform a task together. If multiple teams are present at the Intersection, teams may choose which team they would like to pair up with; conversely, if no teams are present at the moment, any given team must wait for another team to arrive, though they can opt to not pair up with that team and wait for another.
- Switchback - A task that was previously featured in a different season, usually brought back due to difficulty or significance.
- Driver's Seat - Allows the first team to arrive at a designated board to decide how much work the remaining teams will be required to do at the succeeding task. For example, Jonathan & Ana from The Amazing Race 37 decided which teams had to harvest 15, 20, or 25 pounds of rice at the fourth leg's Roadblock.
- Fork in the Road - A choice between two tasks, similar to a Detour. However, in a Fork in the Road, the choices are connected to different routes. Teams make their choice by placing their "Courtesy Of" photo on the route that they would like to take, like they would at a U-Turn or Yield. Once the choice is made, it cannot be changed, and the team will have to follow that route for the rest of the leg. Only a limited number of teams can select each route.
- Valet Roulette - Teams blindly pick a car key from a wheel and give it to the locals to find out whether the car they chose for the leg is manual or automatic.
- Scramble - Presents teams with three different tasks or challenges that they must complete; however, they may complete the tasks in any order they'd like. Each task that is completed rewards a team with a portion of their next clue, and receiving all the portions allows the team to put the clue together.
- City Sprint - A leg where teams must complete a series of tasks in the city that they're in for the leg before returning back to their starting point, doubling as the Pit Stop. There are no Roadblocks or Detours in a city sprint.
And also for clarification, if you're interested in playing the game, please be active. We don't want the game to be delayed or rendered completely inactive because of an offline player.
Now, without further ado, it's nomination time!

"And for one night only...you can get your revenge." / NEWThe cure's carriage eventually arrived. Both of them placed their bags inside their cart and hopped in.
No way I can't believe I'm going to enter another world's fashion boutique! (。☆▽☆。)
You've always wanted to go to one during the race, Erika-san.
The cure's carriage eventually arrived at the Carousel Boutique, and Tsubomi and Erika took their bags with them off the carriage.

Luckily for Mirabel and Luisa, they both land on their clue box and pin it down without falling off the roof. Luisa then grabs the clue with her mouth, and they turn back into humans while all the Pokémon turn back into Fluttershy's critters, with the Corviknight reverting to a giant bald eagle before flying away. The sisters slowly get up, and Luisa takes the clue with her hands and hocks a loogie off the roof.
"Phew, we finally got it! Buuuuut how are we gonna get down?"
As soon as she says that, Discord snaps his fingers and instantly teleports them back to their carriage, with their drivers turned back into ponies.
"Well, that's convenient!" says Mirabel, "but where to next?"
"Carousel Boutique," Luisa tells the drivers.
"Alright. And since all the chaos that happened was beyond our control, we won't let you pay for the damages this time."
"And we're also reminding you that you already paid for all the commute earlier, so it's a free ride from here on out!"
"Gracias!" says Mirabel.
As the ponies drive the carriage on the way to the boutique, Luisa looks at her hands holding the safety bar and sighs.
"Lo siento, Mirabel, but I can't help you find the clue there. I might accidentally tear one of Rarity's dresses."
"I'd say it's okay since I'll do the searching myself, but since this isn't a Roadblock, what if we get penalized if you don't help me?"
"But to quote Isabela, what else can I do there?"
"Well, just being my moral support is already enough!"
Luisa sighs, this time in relief, partially. "Thanks I guess, but I still feel I need to help you there."
Mirabel shrugs. "Well, if we get a penalty if I'm the only one finding the clue, then we'll have to take it, and we'll deal with what happens after if it happens. Is that a deal?"
She nods. "Yeah."
And yes, this is a serious question (although Mirabel doesn't exactly know in-universe): will they get penalized if only she finds the clue when this isn't a Roadblock? Also, I just noticed that Owen's team is still at Golden Oaks Library and he hasn't posted for two days.

Still waiting for someone to break him free...Am I getting saved again by someone lagging behind? Lolwut, I'm not buying this coincidence and feeling of safety. Regardless, I'm going to make a post.
While in the carriage for the two Pastel * Palettes members are still on the way to the Carousel Boutique, they had a conversation.
Wait... so actually, Kanon-chan stayed behind so we both can go through this?
...Yes... while she might be more confident at least, she's submissive and didn't mind that I would accompany you instead of her.
Aya: I see... she's gentle and kind, it's the thing that hasn't changed about her.
Chisato: But what if she might be worried about us?
Aya: Eh, once the lap section is done, we have a brief break before the next lap of the race begins, right? Hina-chan, Maya-chan and Eve-chan came and talked with us earlier at the end of the first lap, back in...
Chisato: After that underwater city. Well, I must say that this trip isn't what we've expected. And by the way, I think you brought some headphones with listening to some music...
Aya: Yep. Just to not get bored. And what about you, Chisato-chan?
Chisato: ...Uh... Actually... I'm okay.
(Ah, darn it, why did I not bring something in particular? Oh well...)
As the carriage is about to arrive at their destination...
Carriage Pony #1: There! It looks like...
Carriage Pony #2: We've gone through the rough road to get to the Carousel Boutique. Apologizes for any incovenience, misses!
Aya: It's okay!
Chisato: Thank you for the carriage services.
Carriage Pony #2: No problems!
Carriage Pony #1: Geez, after all the bugs and frogs and spooky things... you girls don't give up.
Aya: We won't. We will figure a way to solve the clue instructions and finish the race. And besides, we have gone through other adventures with scary perils and challenging obstacles.
Carriage Pony #1: That... makes sense. Now, if then, be careful at the Carousel Boutique. Miss Rarity won't like it if her clothing racks are damaged, let alone just a single mess on them...
Chisato: ...I see. (What a Neat Freak...)
Nothing solves a day of depression better than a warm smile.*wesker manages to find a clue inside a dress, however he can't seem to reach it from the inside*
Wesker: Hmm... what if I...?
*he starts shaking the dress, to no effect. he then notices nemesis trying the same strategy on another dress, which yields the same results*
Wesker: Hey big guy, try it on this one!
*he gives the dress to the bioweapon, who starts shaking it with enough strenght to make the clue fall off. the mastermind then picks it up and reads its contents*
(dongrang manages to get the clue out of his dress...although the tweezers he used broke and he had to carefully dig out the rest of it with his fingers.)
"And for one night only...you can get your revenge." / NEWI don't think the Madrigals would get a penalty, simply because Luisa is strong. The only thing that will really happen if you accidentally rip a dress is upset Rarity, but no actual punishment will be given. Besides, Luisa is participating in the search for the clue if she's pointing where Mirabel should look.

Personally, I'd say that not helping each other in a non-roadblock challenge wouldn't result in a penalty.
Tsubomi and Erika enter inside the boutique, and start to notice racks of clothing specifically for ponies.
WOAah I love these dresses. If I were a pony, I would wear them! (♡∀♡)
Come on, Erika-san. Let's look through these racks for the next clue.
Okay.
Erika replied with a gushy emotion. (*♡▽♡)/★*☆♪
The girls checked through the clothing for the next clue for the race. While the clues were not on any clothing on their chosen rack, they moved onto their next chosen rack quickly.
~Owen 23, your contestants are still at the Golden Oak Library.

Working on Sandbox. The Amazing Race TV Tropes Edition.I meant the penalty as in the one for not helping the other member in a non-RB (if it exists), IK tearing one of the dresses will just get Rarity upset and slow the team down within this challenge.
Mirabel and Luisa arrive at Carousel Boutique, and Rarity keeps an eye on them as they look around for the clue. Luisa avoids touching the clothing racks for now while Mirabel searches them.
"Hey sis, look!"
"What's that? You found the clue already?"
"Not yet, but look at these!"
Mirabel shows Luisa the outfits that are inspired by traditional Colombian (Coltlombian?) dresses.
"That's amazing! I hope Rarity's respecting her race's equivalent of our culture, though."
"I'm sure she would!"
Still waiting for someone to break him free...Okay, what do we do now? Unlike with the first leg, I believe it's too late to replace Owen's contestants, so either somebody else takes over them (but preferably a new player for fairness' sake), or we make Lilligant and Florges's elimination a Foregone Conclusion and proceed without him.
Still waiting for someone to break him free...proceed without him i'd say, would'nt make sense we had to bring in people mid-leg
"And for one night only...you can get your revenge." / NEWWell, if Owen's quitting and nobody's replacing him, there are other ways that the Flowers can be eliminated (such as a medical evacuation or taking so long to reach the Pit Stop that they're hours behind everyone else by the time they do).
Truman X: Technology expert and son! (RIP Jansen Panettiere, 1994-2023)If we're going with the Foregone Conclusion route, I pick the latter because where they were last seen, I see no reason to believe that they were medevaced offscreen. Also, for future reference, if a team is medevaced or otherwise taken out mid-leg, would the Pit Stop have a double elimination where another team gets elimmed regularly? Or would the last one to reach it seemingly get elimmed, only for the host to reveal that another team was DQ'd mid-leg, and the "last placers" are actually saved?

Still waiting for someone to break him free...Just let the host tell the team directly to their faces that they have been Eliminated from the Race on the spot since the other teams are already so far ahead. A Surprise Elimination, so to speak.

Matikane Tannhäuser, now departing for the front line! Ei, ei, mun!IDK. But, in the meantime, I've got another post and I forgot to do this for a few days.
Whoa, check out these dresses!
Shh! Don't attract too much public attention.
Yes, the two entered in the boutique, though they were just merely only have entered in. It seems like Aya is enamoured by the clothing racks, while Chisato, kept a (seemingly) regular smiling face.

Calls for a new player to take over Owen's contestants have been made here
. If no one comes over in 24 hours from that post (January 20 at 1:34PM PHT), they will be auto-eliminated.

Still waiting for someone to break him free...It's been almost 48 hours since that Super Serious FG post, and unless ~callmeamuffin says otherwise, Owen's team will be auto-eliminated, however the host goes about it. Unless otherwise stated, I'll have my team not realize this until they reach the Pit Stop.
Mirabel continues searching the racks while Luisa walks around to try searching for the clue herself. Just then, the latter finds more clothes stored in the higher shelves and notices something gold sticking out of it.
"I think I see the clue!"
"Where?"
Mirabel goes over to Luisa as the latter jumps to try getting the dress with the clue.
"Be careful with those!" shouts Rarity.
But as Luisa grabs the dress, the others go tumbling down on her, burying her in a big pile of fabric.

Still waiting for someone to break him free...As the cures looked through the next rack, they found a clue placed right on the back of the dress.
Hallelujah, we found a clue! (⌒∇⌒)
Let's try to take it off and read it, Erika-san.
Also, Owen's characters have been eliminated, but no characters will know until the end of the race, so by default, everyone in this round will be safe.
Next clue update will be released soon.
