Sinaar Lekhidur, Train Station
Sinaar was actually very interested in the explanation of how a speaker worked, but she didn't let that show, because this guy was incredibly smug and patronizing and she didn't want to give him any sort of approval. (And, subconsciously, the fact that the closest thing to a tokhl in this place insulted her species made her very upset.)
So, after his explanation, she came out with, "So instead of actually shifting into whatever would make that sound..." Sinaar shifted her vocal chords into a string, made her throat area transparent so Aquos could see, played the exact same snippet of music he had played, and then reformed her vocal chords. "...you just vaguely mimic the resulting soundwaves and call that good enough. Good to know."
"Oh, and for the record, sound can travel through any medium. Not just air," she said as one final retort, in the most "you were so smug but I actually know more than you" tone of voice she could muster.

"Something like that, yeah. I'd want it tested first so it doesn't go showing the real private stuff when we don't want it to, but if that's handled, it'd be another way to learn about each other." Yukino replied to Arion, then after giving Red a wave of greeting, she gestured to the train as she spoke to the Prince of Rain.
"Home sweet home. Or at least it is for us now. I've only been a passenger for a little bit now, but knowing me, I'm probably gonna be on it for a while."
Proud member of the AGOG community.Come to think of it, Farmer Hound's tummy was rumbling a bit.
"Hey now, I said hey now, good sir or madam! I'm not sure who you are or where I am but one thing I do know is I need some grub! Can I join you for a meal?" Hound asked the mysterious figure, even as they were heading towards the next car. With no other option, Hound followed the other person, repeating his words if they hadn't heard him in the first car.
The station, with Sinaar.
NPCs: Aquos the shapeshifter, other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
"Oh, so your people still know science after all. Guess you're not a complete lost cause," Aquos replied, perhaps as a sincere compliment, or perhaps as more patronizing.
"And yeah, I stick with the one thing, because it's the one thing. I don't gotta shift back and forth if I wanna make different sounds, like you just did," Aquos started to explain, then started playing (relatively quietly) a song with multiple instruments and singing.
As the song played, he continued to speak simultaneously, "plus I can make multiple kinds of sounds and talk at the same time." Then he played the sound of a large wave of water crashing against a shoreline, "and make sounds of things I can't shift into."
Into the diner car, with Farmer Hound.
NPCs: Molly the skull-faced wolf woman, the "arctic fox" woman, and an anthropomorphic raven man.
Being just into the diner car, the figure turned around with a mildly confused, "huh?" as Farmer Hound approached. It seemed to be an anthropomorphic raven man, dressed up in thickly bundled clothes and having a pair of goggles on top of his head. "Is that a... Joke?" he wondered, squinting his eyes a little at Farmer Hound. "Well... They're not serving lunch yet, but you can get snacks if you want," the Raven man mentioned in a dismissive tone, then turned and headed for the bar.
Over at the bar, in front of it was the lady who would probably look at first like an anthropomorphic arctic fox to Farmer Hound, though if there were anyone to realize she wasn't quite that, it was probably him. She likewise looked back at him with an expression that at first suggested some degree of familiarity, only to then look a little confused and tilt her head slightly as she kept looking at him. Granted, he might not be paying much attention to her, given who was standing behind the counter.
"Oh! Hi! Hi! Are you new? I'm Molly!" Molly said excitedly, her black wolf tail wagging happily, and her ears perked up enthusiastically. There was no facial expression to match though, given that instead of a face she just had the skull of a wolf, and glowing white eyes that seemed to peer through the soul as she stared at Farmer Hound.
"Hey Molly, could I get some more of those butter toffee peanuts, and some cold spring water, please," the Raven man said to her as he sat on one of the bar stools.
"Sure thing!" Molly replied, first grabbing a bottle and glass cup from the wall behind the bar. She poured out some very clear water into the glass, then set the bottle down and crouched to reach under the bar. She then stood back up and placed a bowl of the candied peanuts in front of the Raven man. He popped a few in his beak, then grabbed the glass and took a swig from it.

Red tipped his at Yukino, before answering Kyrtaar’s question. “Well, uh, this guy’s an interestin’ lil’ character. Hey, he wants to see t’train, let’s show ‘im the train. Couldn’t hurt, right?” He studied the elf a little, before asking him “Say, friend, where ya from? Maybe I know ya.”
It builds character.Storm - In the island grove with Colette
Storm stooped, continuing to gather saplings for a few seconds as they processed Colette's conclusion. They'd amassed a small collection, and as they replanted the little seeds, they recalled Alek's comment about a particular train phenomenon.
"I was told that I might receive a letter at some point," they said. "Something about the immediate events surrounding my death. I don't know if it would give me any clues, but I don't know until I get it, don't I?" They buried their last sapling into the earth with clement hands, a smile returning to their face. "For the time being, I suppose I'll just have to hold on to hope. I've always believed it's the most powerful concept there is."
They then accepted Colette's woody offering — it was a little lighter than they anticipated. Another strange property of this world's wood?
"Cheers! I'll see what I can do with it." They pivoted the cuboid piece around them, fascinated by its compactness. But just as they put the little sliver away in a trouser pocket, they froze in place.
"...You wouldn't happen to remember how long we have before we have to get back to the train, do you?" they asked, beginning to pace between the trees as the smile on their face became a little more awkward.
"Hark! For your greatest fears manifest in yours truly!" (She/Her) (Current focus: Image Pickin')Colette, Island Grove with Storm
A letter, or some form of communication. It would be possible to get a letter herself after all.
"Then, waiting for a letter would be the best chance to learn more, including myself."
She watched as Storm accepted her wood. And then Storm brought up a good point. When is the train leaving?
"I don't know, however let me check."
She focuses on the connection between herself and the train... there's no signs of needing to rush to get back. Though it's vague, there is no sense of urgency or any disconnections from this world. She checks Storm's connection to the train and it appears to be the same? With no plans for leaving right away.
There is a chance that this is wrong though, but this seems mostly correct.
"As far as I can tell, the train is not planning to leave yet. But we should consider when we want to head back just to be safe."
The edge of town near the station, with Arion, Yukino, Red, and (maybe) Nameless' cat.
NPCs: Kyrtaar the Dark Elf mobster, the so-called Prince of Rain, other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
Kyrtaar shook his head when Red suggested that maybe they knew each other. "I highly doubt that," the Dark Elf said, reaching into his inner jacket pocket and pulling out the boxy, vape-like device. "Based on your getup and your antiques, I don't think we're even from the same place and time," he continued, pressing a button and flicking his wrist to make the device unfold itself into the angular, futuristic handgun that it actually was.
"But I've learned that plenty of worlds use the same or similar names for places and stuff, so you could have heard of where I came from. Or rather, your world's version of it," Kyrtaar continued, tapping another button and flicking his wrist back to make the gun fold back up into its disguised form. "Big city called Los Angeles."
The so-called Prince of Rain was listening with mild curiosity, facing Yukino. "So this train has people from different worlds, and you only just got on board," he said, pointing a finger at Yukino. "It's already special enough if it can stop inside of a dream, that much I can tell. So, what's up with it?" he wondered, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, everybody on board it is dead," Kyrtaar answered bluntly. "Journey of the afterlife thing, but not everybody who dies ends up on it. Something about our souls slipping out of our worlds on accident," the Dark Elf continued, with a dismissive motion of his hand.
"Oh, so that's why you were wondering if I was dead," the Prince of Rain realized, casting a look at the train. He narrowed his eyes, and spoke with a confident tone. "Is this how the reaper finally intends to claim me, then? I think he'll find that I'm-"
"Yeah yeah relax it with the theatrics. We get it, you're some cool demon guy who doesn't die," Kyrtaar interrupted, in a mildly annoyed tone. "The train ain't here for you, and that's not how it works. That's why I said you probably couldn't even get on board, because you're not dead," the Dark Elf explained.
The Prince of Rain glanced over at Kyrtaar, then relaxed his posture, somewhat. "Oh, well... I think I'll refrain from getting too close, just in case," the Prince of Rain decided. He didn't really sound embarrassed, but he definitely had the proverbial wind knocked out of his sails.
"... I guess if I had been told the same thing before I died, I would also refuse to get close to it," Kyrtaar admitted with a shrug, then headed off to the train.
The Prince of Rain stayed standing at the edge of the flat station area, looking back and forth at the various figures there. "Is that lady talking to a box?" he quietly thought out loud, seeing what he didn't know was a couple of shapeshifters towards the front of the train.
Island grove, with Storm and Colette.
NPCs: Rosepetal the Floran girl.
"Train honk loud horn before leaving!" suddenly yelled the somewhat squeaky voice of Rosepetal from on top of one of the blocks of leaves still floating in the air above the two. She hopped from one to another playfully, making a rough circle around them. "Train security also come get you if not decide to stay behind on purpose! Nothing worry about!" the Floran continued, in a carefree tone.
You are reading this.Red, Edge of town
Red scratched his head. “Los Angeles? That lil’ metropolis? Huh. Sounds ‘bout right. Don’t see why an elf like ya would involve yourself with criminal activity. But I won’t pry.” Evidently, it seemed like no one here was from the same world he was, which was sad. Ah, well, he was used to being alone. Wouldn’t change anything. “Welp, looks I’m headin’ off to the train, then. Got myself a fine piece o’ leather, and I got nothin’ else to do. See y’all!” He turned around and began making his way to the train. What a weird little world this was.
It builds character.Sinaar Lekhidur, Train Station
"That's...actually a pretty good point..." Sinaar said, deflating slightly (both figuratively and literally, if you looked closely enough). She still preferred using vocal cords (for things she could mimic), but the fact that that was a preference and not the objectively better choice had sunk in.
She sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm just...on edge, I guess." She was still vaguely upset, and would later realize she had every reason to be vaguely upset ("maybe your entire species isn't completely lost" is a little hard to take as a compliment), but, well, she talked to the public for a living. She was used to talking past her emotions. "I've just been so...lost. Everything here seems to just—not follow the laws of reality—"
Suddenly it occurred to her that Aquos had just given a detailed scientific explanation of something. "You wouldn't happen to know the exact scientifics behind how the train transforms, would you?" she asked, brightly. "Or know someone who does?" she added on, just in case he didn't (plus she was probably subconsciously hoping she'd get to stop talking to him).
Suggested wine pairing: pinot noir.Edge of Town - Near the Station
"I can't prove it, but I'm half convinced the reaper of my world picked me up and threw me at the train during my last moments. Otherwise there wouldn't have been enough left of me to get on board."
As she said this, Yukino put on a smile as she rubbed the back of her head, as if trying to act like it wasn't a big deal. Then the Prince of Rain's comment caught her attention.
"Yyyeah, the passengers on the train are, uhh...they're a varied bunch. The staff too. They're nice though. So far, anyway."
Proud member of the AGOG community. This raven was a bit dismissive. Certainly not like the ones he had played with growing up. Must be a city raven with how stuck-up he was.
The other figures in the dining car were dogs. Wait was that bartender a dog? It was hard to tell what kind of canine she really was due to the fact that her skull was exposed and her eyes were glowing. Oh, no. Farmer Hound thought he had lived a good and principled life but if this strange skull-dog was here, there was a decent chance he had used the "down" escalator to the afterlife.
He was racking his brain trying to think of what mortal sin he could have committed to have landed him here. Was it stealing that wheel of cheese when he was but a pup?
"Molly, was it? My name is Farmer Hound on account of me being a farmer and also being a hound." the dogman said simply, not wanting to bring up her...peculiar head as it'd be quite rude.
"I might be mistaken but do we know each other?" Hound said, recognizing the arctic fox's bemused expression from his barstool..

Arion listened to the explanation of the train, and his thoughts trailed off. He thought about how he had been brought here of all places, instead of to the Hall of Heroes. Instead of being judged for his deeds in life, he was now instead condemned to live on a train for presumably all eternity, or pick an afterlife to stop off in.
Had the priests been lying this whole time? Was this his pre-destined fate? Or had the gods been playing a cruel trick on him?
His thoughts came back to reality when Yukino spoke up again.
"Ah, yes, the staff are nice, indeed," Arion replied, still sounding in thought, having missed most of the prior conversation.

NPCs: Kyrtaar the Dark Elf mobster, other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
"You could tell just from looking, huh?" Kyrtaar said, though it was more of an idle comment than an actual question. "Guess I'm heading to the library car to see if I can get one of those life viewing books," the Dark Elf added, moving to one of the seating cars, since the library car didn't have boarding doors. Once back on board, Kyrtaar went to the door at the back of the car, seemingly intent on traveling through the train until he found the library car.
The station, with Sinaar.
NPCs: Aquos the shapeshifter, other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
"Oh, that? It's not really scientific; doesn't work by measurable or quantifiable methods, sooo it's basically magic," Aquos replied, in a sort of mildly apologetic, them's the breaks kind of tone. "Now it ain't full on, wave a wand and anything happens magic. It's still got some rules- that's what my job as maintenance is about, really. Making sure it doesn't deteriorate and break down. But all I could tell you about its transformation that's of any use to you is that it's dependent on the world the train's currently in. The train's magic interacts with the world and adapts itself to fit the world better. It's always about what makes that world that world, like a sort of 'identity' of the world. The train can't change shape while still in the same world unless that's part of the identity of the world," he explained at length.
The edge of town near the station, with Yukino, Arion, and (maybe) Nameless' cat.
NPCs: The so-called Prince of Rain, other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
The Prince of Rain looked at Yukino and Arion with a slightly raised eyebrow. "So aside from dying, how did you end up on the train?" he wondered in a curious tone. "That is, if you can tell me. Don't stress yourself if there's some curse of making you forget or making you incapable of talking about it," the alleged royalty added in a, 'I know this genre' kind of tone.
The diner car, with Farmer Hound.
NPCs: Molly the skull-faced wolf woman, Idalia the Glaceon, and an anthropomorphic raven man.
"Well, I guess nobody ever gets confused about what you do, then," Molly said in an amused tone, and let out a giggle.
The arctic-fox-like woman shook her head. "Definitely not personally, I just thought maybe we were from the same world," she said, and looked at Farmer Hound with that little bit of confusion again. "I thought maybe you were a Mabosstiff, but you don't seem to be. You're definitely no Houndour or Houndoom, despite the similar name," she continued, then let out a little sigh of slight disappointment.
Then the fox-like woman put on a friendly smile. "But, that's alright. I'm Idalia Farber, a Glaceon. It's nice to meet you, Farmer Hound," she introduced herself, giving Farmer Hound a little curtsy.
"So, Farmer Hound, would you like anything to drink, or something to snack on?" Molly wondered, her tail still wagging a bit.

You are reading this.Storm - In the island grove with Colette... and someone new to them?!
Storm, confident that they had plenty of time left in this dream world, relaxed at Colette's confirmation. The two of them couldn't spend the whole time just collecting wood and planting saplings, though, so they began to wonder what else they could do here...
The wondering screeched to a halt as a shrill voice directed their immediate attention upwards. There, a figure they didn't recognise leapt about from leaf block to leaf block. They were a young, humanoid, plant-like being with a hairstyle made of pink petals. Surely not from this dream — there wasn't a square or rectangle in sight. They seemed at home amongst the natural world, circling the leaves with whimsical, yet somehow graceful, movements. Still, a shock was a shock, and as soon as there was a gap in the newcomer's explanation, Storm piped up with the obvious question.
"Who are you?!" they called out, before a switch flicked and their tone of voice turned quite parental. "You can't just barge in on people like that; you could scare them half to death! Not that it matters in this case, but still..." They shook their head before brushing off some stray dirt that their jacket had accumulated. "Anyway, thanks for clearing that up."
"Hark! For your greatest fears manifest in yours truly!" (She/Her) (Current focus: Image Pickin')Edge of Town, Near the Station
"To be honest with you, I don't really remember. I'd made my peace with the fact that I was just going to stop existing altogether, and then all of a sudden I'm stumbling into a train. It blindsided the hell out of me, but considering the alternative...yeah, I think I prefer the train." Yukino said, subconsciously rubbing her arm and looking down at her body before focusing her gaze back on the group around her, though Arion's state of inattention didn't pass her notice, with her nudging him in the side with her arm.
"Bet you they'd like to hear your stories once we're on the move again. Everyone likes a good hero's tale." Yukino told him, attempting to lift his spirits a little.
Proud member of the AGOG community.Colette, Island Grove
Just as she finishes collecting her wood and saplings, a squeaky voice interrupts her. A new connection suddenly forming clued her in and she briefly floated for a moment before getting a visual identification of the source.
A plant humanoid on a floating leaf block. At least she (Rosepetal) confirmed what she suspected.
So after overlooking the sudden intrusion... Storm did not take it very well being mortal and all.
"So the train won't leave anyone behind then."
She looked at storm.
"I do think that looking around would be worth doing Storm."
And yes, she did just casually move on from being startled by a Floran.
Island grove, with Storm and Colette.
NPCs: Rosepetal the Floran girl.
Rosepetal let out an amused giggle, stopping after a jump onto another leaf block, and doing a little twirl. "I Rosepetal. I Floran," she introduced herself, then leaned over the edge of the block to peer down at Storm and Colette. "Rosepetal hear question, Rosepetal know answer, Rosepetal give answer. What problem?" the little Floran wondered, in a cheeky tone.
The edge of town near the station, with Yukino, Arion, and (maybe) Nameless' cat.
NPCs: The so-called Prince of Rain or apparently "Headphones", other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
"Hm, I see," the Prince of Rain muttered, and gave a shrug. "Well, if I have my way I'll never be truly dead. Though I suppose if one day it does happen, ending up on this train of yours doesn't sound too bad," he said with a smirk.
The Prince of Rain then raised both eyebrows a bit and lifted his head, looking at nothing in the sky. "Oh, I think I might be waking up soon," he said, his voice shifting from the strange, rain storm with words to a normal Human voice over the course of his sentence. "I hear someone... Probably Specs or Rose. I kind of hope it's not Rose. I know she's a friendly Enderwoman, but she still freaks me out," he thought out loud, then shook his head.
The Prince of Rain then turned his head towards Yukino and Arion, looking a little surprised to see them. "Oh, hi... Do I know you?" he said, a bit confused, then extended his hand. "You can call me Headphones," he added, seemingly unaware of the fact that he was slowly turning transparent.
You are reading this.Sinaar Lekhidur, Train Station
Magic. Sinaar's face fell.
This was sort of the entire reason she was freaking out, after all. After spending hundreds of years as both a collection of knowledge (mainly history, but there was a good bit of science in there too) and a hardline skeptic, being confronted with unexplainable phenomena and "magic" as the only explanation wasn't something she was equipped to handle.
As Aquos kept talking, however, she grew more and more skeptical—not of what Aquos was saying, but of what he said earlier, that the train didn't work by quantifiable methods. The fact that there was a vague pattern to how the train worked implied that there was some underlying system for how it worked, it's just that nobody knew what it was. The idea captivated her. Finally, she had some idea of what to do in this place. It probably wouldn't be easy, though...
In any case, talking to Aquos would probably not be of much help, at least right now. Besides, she didn't like him that much, and he hadn't really wanted to talk to her in the first place, anyway. "Alright, thanks for the explanation. I think that's about all the questions I have right now, and I don't want to take up any more of your time. My name's Sinaar Lekhidur, in case you want to talk to me again for some reason," she said, having been perfectly aware of the fact that she'd never told Aquos her name the entire time.
With that, she waved goodbye and hopped back onto the train. (The blocky environment outside made her vaguely uncomfortable.)
Sinaar Lekhidur, Dining Car
Sinaar arrived back in the same car she'd left, as one would expect.
She caught a decent amount of the conversation that was happening in there, enough to be intrigued (and enough to learn the names of all of the people involved). She went up to the bar and sat down, close enough that Molly, Idalia, or Farmer Hound could easily involve her in the conversation (or continue their earlier one, in Molly and Idalia's cases) if they felt like it, but she didn't butt in herself.
Suggested wine pairing: pinot noir.Red, Returning to the Train
Chuckling, Red tipped his hat at the elf as he left, then set about the long journey of getting to the diner car once more. After passing through many different cars, he finally reached his destination. Well, looks like there was a new arrival. Another dog person, and a farmer at that. At the risk of getting his hopes high, Red might even say that the dog was from home. But no need for assumptions. He tipped his hat and said: “Howdy, stranger. I see that you’ve recently bought the farm, huh? Always nice t’see a new face.” He turned to Molly. “Pardon me, miss, but I might I ask when’s lunch?”
It builds character.Farmer Hound's tail stopped wagging when what he thought was an arctic fox started rattling off a bunch of nonsense words. Oh goodness, these big words made his head hurt just hearing them.
"Mabossstiff? Well, I was my own boss but, since I'm dead now, I guess my corpse is stiff?" Hound replied, completely misunderstanding what he was hearing.
"A Glace-what now? You must be from one of them big cities. Round where I'm from, we'd just call you a fox and be done with it."
"Rye whiskey if you got it - sarsaparilla if you don't, please and thank you." Hound turned to reply to Molly.
The station, with Sinaar.
NPCs: Aquos the shapeshifter, other background passengers, and some blocky villagers.
"Okay, bye then, you have a good day now," Aquos replied, his tone still polite but also clear that he was relieved to be going away from the conversation. His form melted back into the dark purple ooze he had been originally, and he flowed/crawled with pseudo limbs back towards the train engine.
The diner car, with Sinaar, Red, and Farmer Hound.
NPCs: Molly the skull-faced wolf woman, Idalia the Glaceon, and an anthropomorphic raven man.
Idalia looked Sinaar's way and gave her a little wave of hello, but said nothing as she turned her own attention back towards Farmer Hound. Molly however stepped over to just across the bar from where Sinaar sat down. "Welcome back! Did things go well?" Molly wondered in a hopeful and excitable tone, then added, "and would you like anything to drink?"
Molly then glanced at Red when he asked his question. "After we leave the station, I think. Which probably won't be too long now," she answered, then looked at Farmer Hound as he made his request. "Rye whiskey, sure thing!" Molly said, wagging her tail as she turned around and grabbed a very square bottle from the shelves behind the bar. She turned back and placed the bottle on the counter, then leaned down to grab some things under the counter. She stood back up with a glass that would've been a perfect cube if the top side wasn't open, into which she dropped three ice cubes that were, of course, perfect cubes. She then poured some of the whiskey into it, and placed it in front of Farmer Hound.
Meanwhile, Idalia looked only mildly disappointed by Farmer Hound's response. "Oh, no we're definitely not from the same world, then. Don't worry about it, sir," she said in a somewhat apologetic tone, giving him a little bow of her head. "Did you just arrive on the train?" the Glaceon then wondered, tilting her head a little curiously.
You are reading this.Storm - In the island grove with Colette and Rosepetal
Now that the surprise had worn off, and they'd gotten a closer look at their visitor, Storm had to admit that Rosepetal was a charming character. She had an innocence and curiosity to her that reminded them of their younger sister, when she was a similar age. All they had to do was continue to be patient with her.
"No problem here, honest," they replied, their voice far calmer now. "You just need to be mindful of how other people will react if you're too sudden, that's all."
Acknowledging Colette's inclination to leave with a nod, they continued: "Have you found anything of interest in this world, Rosepetal? Colette and I have just spent the last few minutes gathering wood" — they gestured to the chopped trees and planted saplings in their wake — "and now we're ready to move on. Perhaps there's something that we can do with it all?"

"Hark! For your greatest fears manifest in yours truly!" (She/Her) (Current focus: Image Pickin')Arion glanced over at Yukino, with a slight smile on his face.
"I would hope so," he told her. He looked back towards the Prince of Rain. "My tale is one of love, heroism and sacrifice. I will start from the beginning. I was—" he started to say, then vulnerable look gave way to a surprised expression when the strange quality to the Prince of Rain's voice left him, and he started to disappear.
"Headphones? Wha—?" Arion asked, reaching out for the young man's hand in concern and confusion.
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

Arion raised his eyebrows, looking confused at Yukino's explanation.
"Are you talking about reading minds?" Arion asked. "I don't know if there are any ways to do that that I am aware of." He looked even more confused about what Kyrtaar explained about them. "Those must be some powerfully magic books then," he told the dark elf. "If there is a way I can show you my memories of the Realm, I would be glad to do so."
