1.1 is strongly my preference once the white is edited out, like so-

On my end, the lack of a background isn't really an issue — it's, you know, a big hulking caveman with a loincloth and stone spear, I feel that the basic concept of "spears as a weapon of primitive folk" comes across fine.

Failing that, 9 and 14 also work, but have too little focus on the spears for my liking.

What is primitive is not the spear itself, but the character needing to use the spear to survive. For this reason, I still prefer 2.

That strikes me as a red paint argument.

I have removed the red paint argument. My original point still stands.

So, the trope is really just "spears are associated with primitive characters and cultures". Showing them in a survival scenario is useful, but a caveman holding one does get the general vibe across.

I was going by the laconic, which says "Less technologically advanced or 'primitive' people and cultures use spears for weaponry."

Laconics shouldn't be used over the normal description. The description itself talks about use, but also general association and characterization.

So, should I change the laconic to say "Less technologically advanced or 'primitive' people and cultures are associated with spears"?
