HK-47 - Serial Killer Trail

The assassin droid was about to fire a finishing shot to the pirate he had severely cripped, but unfortunately, it seemed they had commited a tactical retreat. A shame that. He did noticed that there seemed to be an unknown party in the area, considering he heard the sounds of a sniper shot that helped force the leader of this strike force to retreat. Now, the only thing left to know is if they will fire on them now...or will they leave them be? Only time will tell.

Scrapyard

Among the piles of discarded technology, Galleus in particular may notice an extremely rare item. A vaguely-oblong communication device at the bottom of a pile of scrap, with a thin screen and several buttons adorning its face. An ancient piece of technology, a symbol of perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds and personal incompetence among obscure sects of the Imperium. It is said that the Omnissiah himself encoded a simulation of galactic war on it, for ambitious warriors to practice their strategic prowess on during periods of peace.

...Unfortunately, it was marred by a significant design flaw of having to hold the damn thing sideways to talk on it, making one look like a fool while using it. Not all miracles are perfect.

Granet Scrapyard, Planet Centerra (Cold As Ice - And Willing To Sacrifice Her Love)

"I wouldn't concern yourself too much with it," Susie dismissively waved a hand in response to Giegue's query. "The Last Prophecy is an old legend from a little-known system, concerning inky goo from another dimension eating stars, or some such jambledyjoot. For posterity, the Company's R&D department have recorded it, should we visit that windpipe of the forest, so to speak. How does it go again...?" she pondered, tapping her mitten-like hand on her chin in exaggerated thought.

"It was something like, 'One Thousand Years, We See Nor Hear, Our Dam Stand Not So Tall. The Walls Show Doubt, The Stars Go Out, Dark Matter Flood Us All!'" she 'acted out' the prophecy like she was a hammy actor, with grand sweeping gestures and even putting a hand to her forehead like she was about to faint. She couldn't help but chuckle, feeling the opportunity to loosen up. Haltmann knows she might not have another one for a while.

"But yes, as I said, it's only a legend. Only kids and conspiracy nuts believe in it, so 'don't sweat things!' Whatever threats we come across will be well within the bounds of our understanding!" she assured the alien, offering a wink of confidence. She chose not to ask if his species was even capable of sweating, or how she even knew that phrase when no-one at the Company could sweat, either. The sweat glands were always the first to go during a routine mechanization. So icky! And rust-promoting, too. It gave her the jitters just thinking about it.

It was then an alert tone sounded on the Business Suit's Heads-Up Display. Flipping down her visor, she was informed one of her dutiful little drones had found something of interest among the scrap! Eager to see for herself, she directed the drone over to her, and she couldn't believe her luck! She inspected the bulbous blue device, clearly a weapon of some sort. On closer examination, it appeared to be a caster of cryogenic fluids - going from the similarity in its construction to the walk-in freezers of her ice cream factory - and bore markings indicating the device was of Grummel design. How curious... she didn't think GrummelNet operated outside the Polaris Galaxy. Compared to the other arms giants of the Solana/Bogon/Polaris triangle, they were always more of an 'indie' operation. It was strange how they were so often punching above their weight. The Company had seen them as a prime candidate for acquisition to gain a foothold in that area, but alas, they turned down all their offers. Their loss, she supposes.

Idly, she unholstered her HWC Blaster and looked between the two guns now in her possession. The cryogenic weapon seemed unfortunately non-functional, but given a moment of quiet she could easily use it to adopt the Blizzard power effect. She heard that Ridley wasn't a fan of cryogenic weapons...

Serial Killer Trial - Battlefield - All Quiet on the Western Front? (Lieutenant Titus)

"Unclear, but keep a lookout regardless!" the armoured soldier manages to reply to Cibo before the Pirates decide to be smart for once, and teleport away from the battlefield.

Double-checking his surroundings, Titus uses the quiet moment to eject the spent box magazine from his Auto Bolt Rifle, and replace in with a full one, making sure to engage the first bolt with a pull of the charging handle. "Does anyone need medical attention?" he calls out as he uses his auspex to check for anyone who couldn't speak out.

...He gives a sigh when he notices that Zeemi is seemingly okay, before raising his damaged gauntlet, revealing the split data-screen with cracks so abundant, that it was rendered non-functional. As for Cibo, it wasn't too warm now that the situation had settled, and she might be able to spot the damaged gauntlet's state from her piggybacking Titus' power pack.

Scrapyard - Oh, the Ignorant Fools (Galleus Malthiron)

The crimson-robed Tech-Priest could only scoff at the apparent dismissal of Galleus' attempts to politely inform them of the true nature of Dark Matter, but no matter. The corpo-shell had a point: there were more present affairs to be taken care of. Lightly tapping his boot on the ground, he would silently observe Aila's new weapon being tested before one of his eerily skull-like servo-drones would approach Galleus, communicating in Lingua Technis (LT) about a potentially startling discovery.

Curious, and still holding the unconscious Ruri on his back, Galleus follows the dutiful drone to where the Object of Interest was found. Noticing the small size of the artifact, he would gently set Ruri down next to the pile, making sure to make her as comfortable as possible while he picks up the artifact.

Clearing the dust and holding it up to the light, his implants buzz with activity as they slowly recognise the artifact. A data-slate design that had not been seen for at least a century. He'd heard rumours of some Rogue Traders and mercenaries somehow acquiring some of these, but to think he'd find one of the rumoured tablets designed to test some of the Imperium's best strategic minds, on a Federation world?

"...Praise the Omnissiah. I had no idea one of these would find their way here! A device blessed by the Omnissiah all the way out here is nothing short of... miraculous. This must be an omen! The Omnissiah is watching over us, ah-hahaha!"

Someone's happy, apparently.

Mission Status: Still Freaked Out Thanks For Asking (Aquarius)

I want to believe Susie so badly.

I want to believe that I'm panicking over nothing, that the Last Prophecy is just a myth, that the galaxy is going to be fine. The stars aren't going to go out, Dark Matter isn't this unstoppable force, we'll be okay...I've been living the past two thousand years for nothing...

But I can't. I can't because the Last Prophecy is real.

I would know.

I gave it.

Giegue asks what it actually is, and Susie launches into an explanation. I...should probably contribute to that, considering I probably know the most about it out of everyone here. "Th-three thousand years, actually," I say, finally getting my shaking under control. "But it's been two thousand years since it was originally given, so...basically a thousand. Bound to be some great end of the world parties in a millennium."

I try for an awkward smile in the hopes my pitiful attempt at a joke lands better.

"I'm actually from the system it originated in. I've been...researching Dark Matter, in my own time. Trying to learn more about it." Trying to stop the events I set into motion. "Which is why I came here. To learn more."

"Look inside yourself and to the stars; there, you will find your answers."

Scrapyard

The prophecy was... disappointing. But Giegue had somewhat expected this. A prophecy about the end of the world should have little to do with his plans.

Well, at least he thought so.

Still, Giegue found himself pondering over it and Dark Matter. No traces of sweat were found on his face, but he wasn't even nervous in the first place.

What he didn't expect was the other psychic to be from that "windpipe of the forest", whatever expression the secretary used. Giegue lowered his head toward him, his tail slowly waving.

"Oh, so you are from it. I wonder if your research has been... fruitful."    Giegue said. He stopped "scanning" the card he was studying with his PSI, putting his hand under his chin.

"Call it as much of a farce as you want, I can't deny there are some truths to this prophecy. I understand that so many races tend to rationalize everything they meet in a pathetic attempt to grasp a universe too big for them. But there are things that are inexplicable to them. Beings that would drive them to madness. Perhaps Dark Matter, if all those rumors are true, might be one of those types of creatures, or at least close to it."

Which, he had to admit, made him even more curious about them.

Giegue looked outside. His tail stopped moving as he contemplated again the Last Prophecy.

"And stars... Even stars die out. Some of their corpses may shine still, but in the end, they'll all black out. When the last of them is gone, all that remains will be a reality sentenced to eternal darkness. In that way, your prophecy isn't wrong. It's merely a matter of "when" rather than "if" it'll happen. Who knows, perhaps in thousands, billions of years. Or perhaps in a decade or so should someone decide to just... end it all..."    he said, in a tone worthy of someone depressed. Giegue looked wistful for a moment, the facade gone.

"Send it all to darkness." Why did it feel so... appealing to him? He was already so tired.    So sad. So sad.

Fortunately Galleus's loud laugh put Giegue out of his train of thoughts, startling him. The alien then looked at the priest with a clearly annoyed look, as if nothing had happened in the first place.

Where... was I again?    Giegue thought, looking a bit lost.

The card. The one in the junkyard. the small, cheerful voice whispered.

   ...Right.

Giegue turned back toward the pile of scrap, sending again some of his PSI to scan the mysterious card.

Scrapyard

The item appears to be a keycard much like one a guest would receive at a hotel. It is gold-colored, with a shiny finish that almost makes it look garish in comparison to the rather drab scrapyard it’s lying in. The energy signature permeating this keycard feels similar to the strange energy throughout the system, the same that the Pirates have been harvesting, this “Boltzmann Radiation,” but it feels…off. It’s different, like a mutant strain of a virus. It’s identifiably the same form of energy, but it definitely did not originate on this planet, it doesn’t feel the same as the rest of the radiation saturating this system.

Printed on the front of the thing, in large text, are the words “Stardust Casino And Resort - VIP Pass.”

Serial Killer Trail

As the Pirates teleport away, the mysterious sniper lowers his weapon to a relaxed position and looks over at Gesicht.

“Seems they escaped, for now…unfortunate. I suppose introductions would be appropriate.”

The man slowly approaches the rest of the crew, keeping his weapon lowered.

“I should thank you for distracting their Commandos. I might not have gotten some of those shots off otherwise. The big targets, however, are still in play - Weavel, and Commander Ridley.”

He looks around at the group of space misfits, his expression unreadable through that opaque visor.

“You can call me Locus. I’m a mercenary, sent to wipe out the Space Pirate presence on Centerra. You’ve all made my job somewhat more complicated than it was otherwise going to be.”

Cibo: Serial Killer Trail

"Hi, Locus!" Cibo waved in a friendly manner, from her position still clutched onto Titus' back. She looked over the latter for a moment, noticing the broken gauntlet and peering at it, reaching over to poke the broken screen with a long finger. "That's definitely broken. Not good. Might be able to help work on that, though."

She eventually slid off of Titus' back, stretching her limbs and standing at her full height, before walking nonchalantly over towards Locus and sticking out her hand.

"Glad we could be a pain in your neck," she remarked with a curious smile. "We're on our own mission. But these space pirates are getting in the way. I think we all want to take care of them. Could use the help, if you want to make us useful. So long as it doesn't obstruct our escort."

She took a moment to look over her plasma weapons, investigating them for any damage as well as the rest of her body. She'd taken a couple of glancing hits, so she might have to scrounge together some scrap material later to patch those holes.

"Wait, is Zeemi alive? She got shot down...!" she suddenly turned, looking back at the others. "No, nevermind. Don't tell me..."

She focused for a moment, sensing for nearby life signs, before sighing in relief as she detected Zeemi and turning back to face Locus.

"Good, she's alive. I'm Cibo. We're split up for now. We're on the ground, rest of our group's in the air. Probably fighting something too, if those pirates we faced here were any indication..."

Giegue immediately caught the energy radiating from the card. Something similar to the "Stellar energy", yet clearly different. He humphed as he psychically lifted the object for all to see.

Perhaps the star "Stella" was producing different energy signatures, he wondered. Or maybe it was made in another system, from the energy produced by another star? And even then, why did this card radiate with such power? At least putting it into canisters to harvest it was understandable, but why on a simple card like this one? Giegue found it ridiculous to use that energy to produce something so mundane.

In either case, as he silently pondered, he completely disregarded the text. Anyone else with common sense would have probably thrown a party upon receiving a VIP card to a luxurious casino, and maybe that would be the case for the rest of the party with the card being visible and all. Not Giegue, who had the same stern unhappy look he usually had.

He knew somewhat what that was from his first invasion on Earth, but he thought little of it. He was that much foreign to those concepts.

Thankfully, everyone in the party managed to dodge Ridley's initial attack, but as Seras' shot impacted his middle, Ridley screeched in annoyance and unleashed a barrage of guided missiles from beneath his wings!

"It's unlikely we'll be able to beat Ridley in a straight fight," Enty evaluated as she barrel-rolled out of the way of the enemy's sweeping beam attack and fired a few phaser shots to destroy the missiles headed her way, which exploded like deadly fireworks in midair. "I agree with the suggestion of retreating for now. But we're not leaving you to fight by yourselves your own, Seras and Pip! We'll withdraw in halves. Toa Lewa and Ruri, retreat South. Seras, Pip and I will draw his attention to cover for you, then retreat East ourselves and meet up with you later on. But first..."

The KAN-SEN swooped down in an arc toward the Pirates' ammo depot, then abruptly pulled up as she dropped off a pair of miniturized proton torpedoes — which, in the absence of the void of Space, were more like straight-up bombs. As Enty sped back up to the level of the battle, the explosives already littered about the depot erupted in a spectacular fireball, taking a multitude of Pirates and Pirate weapons and ammo with them.

"Alright, done! Now go, you two!" she ordered as she fired a few more phaser shots at Ridley's wings, which barely seemed to slow the cyber-monstrosity down. "We'll see you later!"

Serial Killer Trail - Field Debrief (Lieutenant Titus)

Titus glances at Cibo as she gets off his power pack and speaks to Locus on presumed behalf of the group (after a little prodding about his gauntlet, of course). He wouldn't have necessarily phrased it like Cibo did, but it summarised the situation enough for the mercenary to know. At least, the Marine hopes.

"Lieutenant Titus, Ultramarines, 2nd Company. I apologise for Cibo's bluntness, but there is truth in what she says. We were hoping to preemptively deal with the Space Pirate threat before we completed our actual mission."

"And as our interests happen to align with yours, I am not against you working with us," Titus replies through his helmet, staring the blood-red optics of his blue helmet at the mercenary. Not that Titus actually had a problem with Locus intervening when he did, far from it. One issue that the Marine had was more the confusion caused by a lack of communication from the mercenary himself, though the Lieutenant internally notes that perhaps Locus had his reasons. Much like how Titus himself would approach his previous service in Deathwatch—

A distant explosion is heard by the Ultramarine, who turns his head to look down in the trail in the direction of the explosion. His power armour's systems were telling him that whatever that explosion is, it's of significant force. "Looks like they hit something," Titus snarks.

"We all fail. We all make mistakes. That is what makes us human."

After reverting her arm cannon back into a hand, Alia looked at the rest of the party to see if they'd found anything useful. Giegue had found...some sort of card, one giving off energy that gave Alia an uneasy feeling. Susie, meanwhile, had found a weapon Alia didn't recognize, but the look of it and the temperature dropping ever so slightly as she got closer allowed the Reploid to make an educated guess as to what the weapon was for.

"Do you know what this is, Susie? I'm not getting any results on my end, but it looks cryogenic in nature." Alia said, looking from the weapon to Susie herself. The distant sound of an explosion, meanwhile, had her hand twitch as if about to form into a buster, but a deep breath helped her resist that urge and keep calm.

Granet Scrapyard

"...The number of weapons lying around this scrapyard is a little concern-"

The sound of an explosion in the distance cuts him off.

"...I feel like that's...our fault, somehow."

Everett casts his gaze to the north, where a plume of smoke is visible, rising from the northern canyon...along with several distant forms soaring around each other. One vague shape, larger than the others, emits a bright beam of plasma that's clearly visible even at this distance.

"Is that our friends?!"

"...Ya got some weird friends, don'tcha?"

Serial Killer Trail

Locus merely stares silently at Cibo, his mood impossible to read beneath that opaque visor.

"...You've been useful enough so far...until now. The Pirates didn't know I was here. Now I'm exposed...so we might as well fight together."

Locus walks over to examine Zeemi.

"...Your idiot is fine. Sleeping, but fine. The fact that she's alive is a miracle - few would have survived a wound like that."

The sniper barely flinches at the explosion, his head turning to follow Titus's gaze.

"Seems your flying friends got the Pirates' attention. While they're watching the skies, they won't see a ground force coming."

He starts walking further down the trail, speaking over his shoulder to Gesicht.

"If you're right, and the Pirates are coming this way, I don't intend to just wait for them."

All in all, the mercenary flat-out ignored every attempted pleasantry sent his way. Less a man and more a gun that can talk, it seems.

Skies Over The Canyon

Enterprise's shots impact Ridley's wings, not seeming to do more than draw his attention. The Space Pirate commander turns in midair, his glowing eyes narrowing in a glare at Enty and Seras.

Great. He's mad now.

Opening his maw to prepare another beam, Ridley tucks his wings around himself before suddenly rearing back in midair. A volley of missiles fires from the Space Pirate's chest, half converging on Seras and Enty each as another beam erupts from his maw towards the vampire. Accompanying the beam is a deafening roar, and though Ridley's language (if he even speaks one) is unknown, the meaning is more than clear.

"Not sure if he's going to let us retreat." Seras notes. "But it's not like I have a better plan."

Pip's disembodied hand shoves another shell into her cannon before vanishing back into her shroud. Seras then lets the cannon fade back into her body, becoming intangible as she recklessly charges towards the dragon, swooping in at a curved angle to avoid the energy beam while phasing through the solid missiles.

"Izzat all you got?!" She shouts, clearly challenging the thing. Drawing Ridley's attention so as to give Enty openings.

Once she's close enough, she rematerializes and flings a shadowy spike-tendril forward, sharpened to a razor's edge and with inhuman strength behind it. Keeping his eyes on her and testing his durability at the same time.

Granet Scrapyard, Planet Centerra (The Explosion Economy)

As Susie was all wrapped up with pondering the logistics of applying this weapon to her own- uh, the Company's, tech, of course the oafish cultist had to snap her out of her thoughts, raving about some primitive-looking device he found. She rolled her eyes at the sight - looked an awful lot like a failed project the Labotories once had, what was it called... the N-glorious? Something beginning with N...

It was then that Aqua actually said something interesting. He's from the backwater system that created the Last Prophecy? How serendipitous! She didn't say anything - didn't want to give the game away too early - but when this is all over, perhaps he'll have some useful information about Dark Matter...

Giegue's speech gave her pause, though - it was obvious to anyone watching as she put down her tech, her mind thinking back to those long years spent trapped in Another Dimension. A small, defenceless child, faced with sights no-one had ever seen before and were unlikely to see again. Things she couldn't describe if she wanted to. Things that could still snuff her out even now.

She steeled herself. All the more reason to learn everything she can!

Fortunately this time, someone else came along to snap her out of her thoughts. It was the... ah. The Reploid was asking her a question.

"I don't know what its exact designation is, but it's similar in construction to some of the Company's freezer appliances - so yes, it's almost certainly cryogenic. It's a Grummel design. Tech specialists from the Solana galaxy - you may have heard of them."

Susie was notably a bit more... clipped in tone, a bit more curt, lacking the corporate joviality she'd been putting on. She realized she was being stupid - the Reploid had shown no signs of rampancy, no signs of anything. Really, she was trying to show her courtesy, answering her question as clearly and straightforwardly as possible! That way she wouldn't be anything less than perfect in her eyes, and that's what you needed to be. That's what the Mother Computer demands, and that's how her father remembers she exists...

She was almost relieved when a distant explosion broke the tension and Aqua starting panicking, yelling for everyone to flee. She almost recoiled at the very idea. No way is she passing up this monster of opportunities. Everything is going her way, what would it say if she dropped it all and ran for one measly little explosion?

"Now now, Aqua, let's not be too hasty!" she said, the Business Suit trundling over to him. "We don't know if that explosion means an attack on our location is imminent! It's most likely a sign that our friends are busy at work! It'd do nobody any good to run away when we don't even know what the danger is - but be assured, even if they attack, we're more than equipped to defend ourselves! In fact, this little device I just found should come in handy! So again, don't sweat things! If it helps, you can ride along!" she offered, lowering one of the mech's arms for Aqua to sit, if he so chose.

Whether he did so or not, Susie wasted no further time, popping open a panel inside the mech's cockpit, rummaging around for a special power lead and, with some tweaking, hooking it up with the device she recovered. Hopefully - mitts crossed - the Business Suit's exotic systems will recognize its cryogenic energy signature...

Granet Scrapyard - What? He Enjoys His Work (Galleus Malthiron)

The tech-priest would continue to giggle to himself as he hid the Blessed Relic within his robes, before he, too, looked at the explosion in the distance, his ocular implants buzzing with data-flow and analysis compilations, before he turns back to see Aqua panicking. Oh, lord, this child... He would've chided him, were it not for the Glorified Servitor Business Associate instead trying to explain that the combat team had things in hand.

"I agree with the pink one, surprisingly enough. According to what I could see, we are not necessarily in danger. That explosion, from what I can tell, is not meant to target the relatively small assault force working to attack the base. There is a... 5-7-point-8-1-6-per-cent probability that the explosion is caused by detonation of several weapons reserves and/or fuel canisters. More likely, it is either the assault squad or the aerial scouts that caused that explosion."

"The important thing is that they're buying time. Of which, we are getting plenty."

Serial Killer Trail - It's Never That Easy (Lieutenant Titus)

"No," Titus says bluntly as Locus suggests that the Pirate forces would focus on the aerial team instead of their ragtag ground team.

"They'll still be looking out for us as we make our approach. You said it yourself, Locus; their leaders are still in play. Their defenses will be lowered, but you should not underestimate them, all the same."

"We should pick up the pace, but remember, stick to cover, and watch your backs. Assuming any more of their cloaked assassins are still around, we should not take any chances."

"Let's go!"

Scrapyard

Giegue narrowed his eyes dangerously, slowing glancing outside as he also heard the massive explosion.

"Hmph. Still not dead yet..."    he muttered. Now was he referring to Ridley and his minions, or his own teammates, only he knew.

He probably meant both.

Giegue almost choke from the disgusting insinuation both Everett and Eric then spat. That was enough to distract him from the battle outside.

Friends, family... It only made him weaker, vulnerable. Never again.

"They aren't our friends. They're associates."    he coldly corrected, irritated. He narrowed his eyes at Eric taking a bit too much interest of what was happening outside.

"Focus on what we asked of you instead of asking about things that don't concern you. The quicker you are finished, the more chances you'll have to not deal with the pests out there."    he added.

And of course, the weakling started to freak out, preventing further his concentration. Amazing. Even the boy Everett had more guts than the other psychic. Most importantly he didn't want his panick to spread to Eric, meaning that they wouldn't get the ship as fast as he wanted.

And so, Giegue followed with an even grander speech after Galleus and Suzie's.

"Get a hold on yourself, will you."    he said, lightly hitting Aqua's back with his tail to snap him out of his foolishness.

Diplomatic as ever. And again, a little slap on the back was rather merciful for Giegue.

Grunting, Giegue looked back outside. One figure in perticular stood amidst the others. Ridley, most likely.

So? Your first impressions? the voice in his head suddenly asked. Giegue tried not to grimace at his interference again.

He's smaller than I envisioned. For someone called the "Cunning God of death", I expected something as massive as a Gargiathan.

You don't need to be an eldritch monster twice the size of ships and eat them to be dangerous. Just look at us. the voice nonchalantly said.

I admit... His raw, destructive power is somewhat impressive. Not many attacks are visible from this far.    Giegue answered, folding his arms.

I can only imagine what it's like fighting him in melee. If it was just a dragon that would be fine. But he's the leader of an army who's been active for quite some time. If that's anything to go by, he's not as stupid as you think he is. the voice warned. Giegue frowned.

Are you saying I can't break him into servitude?

The voice sighed. Of course, this was only happening in Giegue's mind, but he saw the voice taking shape.

The voice had his face. His shape. A tall, slender white alien. But his tail was pink, a sign very reminiscent of the mental amplifiers his species sometime used. He had also blue eyes, contrasting Giegue's red ones. He was wearing normal human clothes, like a kid from the 80s. A red cap, a t-shirt, a red scarf, some pants and shoes. It looked beyond ridiculous, as if Giegue decided to cosplay as a human. And he had blond hair.

His mother's hair. Her descendant's clothes. Everything Giegue wanted to reject so badly and yet a part of himself. His human side manifested through his immense PSI, though Giegue had yet to eject him from himself. If he could puke in his own mind, he would.

He is no different than a brutish bear. I can deal with this.    the alien continued, trying to ignore the other one.

Do you really think it's wise to give him PSI? Not to mention if you bring in him, his army will want answers and go after him. he said before sighing, putting his hands in his pockets.

And I can tell he's nasty. He's enjoying this. I can smell it from here. Someone so bloodthirsty could prove harder for you to control, especially in the state you're in. He's too dangerous. he continued in a more wistful tone.

Giegue looked down in contemplation. The other one had a point, though he valued the more practical reasons.

...Then I suppose you have nothing against his extermination?    he asked the apparition.

He's a threat. I think we can both agree on that. the other answered, nodding. Giegue felt a bit surprised his good side and himself actually agreed on something.

Besides, he's hurting our friends. We ought to help them at least. the other one remarked with a shrug.

They. Are. Not. Friends, Niiue. Stop this. Leave me. Now.    Giegue hissed, immediately focusing his mind to bury the other. The apparition faded away as he did.

Once focusing back outside his mind, Giegue noticed the secretary already taking actions against the would-be attack. The Reploid was likely readying herself too and the priest was doing nothing, as usual.

Giegue also gave Susie the casino VIP card, levitating it near the mech's arm. After all, he had nothing to keep it in himself, nor could he just carry that should the pirates come.

"You might as well keep this while you're at it. The energy signature of this object is similar to the one the pirates are trying to harvest, but it's origin is different from this system. I suspect it could come from another star."    he explained, more concerned about the energy than what was written on it.

Ruri — Skies Above Canyon

Ruri followed the plan. She didn't see a reason not to. The last thing she wanted was to be torn to shreds. She flew south, obeying Miss Enty without question.

Skies over the Canyon

Lewa instinctively strafed to the side when Ridley got ready to fire, only to see him launch a barrage specifically on Enty and Seras. Before he could counterattack, Seras got up close and personal with Ridley. That made things a bit harder- a bad shot at Ridley could hurt her too. But the Toa of Air had other ideas.

"Seras! Grip-grab him and hang on tight!" Then Lewa took off, circling around the duelling duo. "Windfly- Wedge Twister!"

As Lewa span around and around, the wind picked up in the same motion. Before long, Seras and Ripley found themselves at the centre of a mid-air whirlwind.

And a Strange Figure Emerges.

Skies Over The Canyon

Good, Ruri was retreating South as planned. Now Lewa just needed to join her, and then Enterprise and Seras could—

As the Toa suddenly whipped up a whirlwind around the vampire and mecha-dragon locked in close combat, Enty's eyes widened in alarm.

"What are you doing, Toa Lewa?! The plan was for you and Ruri to retreat first!" she forewent using radio and simply blasted out her protest on her Rigging's speaker systems, just in case for some reason Lewa didn't have a radio on his craft. At least that would explain why he wasn't following the plan, but...

As she took phaser potshots at Ridley's wings — they were far enough from his torso that she had little chance of hitting Seras, especially utilizing her targeting computer — the KAN-SEN couldn't help but feel that the situation was starting to spiral out of control.

Granet Scrapyard

"Don't know if I'm gonna have to wait for more 'a those canisters."

Eric points up at...something.

...Oh. That "something" seems to be another small group of pirates, these ones equipped with more advanced jetpacks than the ones they'd encountered on the way down. There are four...but oddly enough, none of them are carrying the canisters that Eric seemed to be expecting.

While they seem to be scanning the ground for something, they don't seem to have noticed the small group in the scrapyard yet. All the same, Everett visibly goes pale upon just the sight of these guys.

"Oh Stella they found us."

Serial Killer Trail > Crater Canyon

Locus silently nods, choosing to stay in the back of the group as they advance.

The crew soon finds themselves nearing an exit to this tangle of foliage, giving way to a sheer rock wall broken up only by a narrow passage in the middle. Stationed on either side of the opening are a pair of gray and green Zebesians...who are curiously speaking Galactic Basic rather than whatever unintelligible growling language the Space Pirates typically utilize.

"Commander Ridley is really going nucular on those enemy scouts up there, isn't he?"

"...Say that word again?"

"Which one?"

"The 'nu' one."

"...Nucular?"

"Chiton, it's pronounced 'nuclear' ."

"No, Scythe, I'm fairly certain it's 'nucular.' Hold on, travelers, let me ask them."

The gray one waves a claw over at the approaching crew.

"Excuse me, settle a bet, will you? Is it pronounced 'nucular,' or 'nuclear?'"

"You sound like a moron the way you say it..."

The red sniper dot on Chiton's chest makes Locus's opinion more than clear...if he were still visible.

Which he is not.

Skies Above The Canyon

Ridley glares with obvious rage at Seras avoiding his attack, the dragon's bladed tail intercepting her spiked tendril and clashing with it like a swordfight. As he does the Space Pirate commander also lets loose another volley of missiles at the vampire for good measure.

If Enty's yell hadn't gotten his attention, her phaser shots certainly did. The blasts impact Meta-Ridley's wings, momentarily disrupting the energy netting between each metal spoke before his systems correct and fill in the gaps. Refusing to let this disgrace stand, the cyborg menace opens his maw before unleashing another plasma beam from his mouth, centered right on Enterprise. What's worse - it can track her as fast as easily as Ridley's line of sight following her movements.

Mission Status: Don't Say I Didn't Warn You (Aquarius)

...

"You know," I say, keeping my voice low, "I don't wanna say 'I told you so', but..."

With one hand, I gesture at the pirates.

"I fucking told you so."

Well, unfortunately, we can't change the past, so instead, I tug on Everett's hand, trying to lead him to one of the piles of parts. "Hide," I whisper, trying to move as fast as possible without making a ruckus.

"Look inside yourself and to the stars; there, you will find your answers."
